To calculate the density of any object you will always use the formula: Density = Mass / Volume (P=M/V). You have recorded the known values of the mass and the diameter of the ball (sphere), so we have everything needed to calculate the Density. Mass is 66.80g, but we shall need to use another formula to calculate the volume of the sphere. The formula to use is 4/3 X Pi X radius cubed. However, first of all we need to turn your measurement of the diameter of the steel sphere into the radius of the steel sphere (So that it can be substituted in place of the “radius” in the above formula). Simply half the diameter to find the radius. So 2.51 cm divided by 2 is 1.255 cm. Now insert the radius 1.255cm into the above formula. It would be read like this: 4/3 X 3.14159… X 1.255 ?cubed (OR 4/3 X 3.14159 X 1.255X1.255X1.255), = 8.2798. So, now we know that the sphere has a volume of 8.2798 cm cubed, we can use this number in place of the “V” in the density formula P=M/V, and we can also substitute in the Mass (66.80g). So now P=66.80 / 8.2798, which = 8.07g/cm cubed. Now we know that from your measurements, steel has a density of 8.07g/cm cubed! This is fairly close to the real life average density, which if I remember correctly is around 7.8 g/cm cubed. Q: Why is it usually scorned by the shooting community to use steel cased ammo (like Wolf)? Always hear corrosive and steel is bad for the extractor/firing pin. Hulp a simpleton out!
if you were going to shoot thousands upon thousands of steel cases in your rifle, it would cause more wear than brass cases do. but for the casual shooter, it won't be a significant factor. Corrosive ammo is another story (but not all steel cased ammo is corrosive, and any made after 1975 is not corrosive). shooting corrosive ammo in a bolt gun is simple to care for. When finished shooting, simply clean out the barrel, chamber and bolt face etc with hot soapy water, or military bore cleaner. This nuetralizes the corrosive chemicals. then dry it well, and then do your normal clean and lube with break free CLP or whatever other lube you prefer. But for a semi auto, gas operated firearm, the cleaning process takes hours, with having to tear it down and clean every part including gas tube etc. As for the ectractor, same answer as above, since an extractor slides in front of the rim as the cartridge is fed, it really does not add much more wear if it is steel. The firing pin does not contact the steel case, only the primer, so no additional wear there. The biggest problem with wolf ammo is encountered when you fire a lot of rounds quickly, building up a lot of heat, which can cause the lacquer sealent on the case to turn gummy and this in turn will cause problems for the firearm. Answer? first, use wolf ammo for casual shooting and clean the firearm extensively afterwords. Save your better ammo for real life situations. I understand that some of the newer wolf ammo does not use the same lacquer sealant. I believe it is called silver bear, but don't quote me becasue I can't swear that that is it. shoot safe
Q: I know copper pots are supposed to be really good for cooking with, and I have been looking around online. One thing I don't want to do, however, is send them in to be re-lined with tin. So I was wondering if stainless steel lined copper pots work as well as the traditional tin lined ones, or if those make the copper just for looks.
Stainless steel is durable and does not disolve and make things taste funny. Stainless steel is not a good conductor of heat, so it has hot and cold spots. Copper is very good conductor. They noe bond copper to stainless steel to get the best features of each. Some pots just have a very thin copper plating to fool you. A good pot will be heavier, It is really hard to tell from looking.if it is plating or a bonded layer of copper. the thicker the better
