- Q: First off, I apologize for my ignorance; I'm new at this. Does electrical wire (12 gauge for example), come as a single wire? For example, if I'm installing a 20A outlet 40 feet away from the breaker, do I need 40 or 80 feet of 12 gauge wire?It is my understanding that each outlet needs a (+) and (-) wire, as well as a grounding wire. Is this correct? Thanks for your help!
- The most common wiring system these days is 'Romex' cable which is a plastic jacketed assembly of two current carrying insulated wires and a bare ground. There is a lot that you'd need to know about how that cable may be routed through a structure, and how it needs to be anchored to the structure and terminated at it's ends to even come up with the actual length of it you will need, let alone make a safe installation though. There are good home wiring manuals available, and I strongly suggest that you don't even touch any power wiring without reading one.
- Q: If possible give me specifics, date month anything. If there is a document or website you know of that would help as well. Thanks in advance.
- The electrical code is national Ohio may require more the NEC(national electrical code) but not less. Even if they did try to make there code less any electrician would be liable for damage cause if he intentionally and knowing installed less than the NEC Do you mean for 220v appliances like dryers and stoves? off the top of my head 1996 I started in the trade in 95 and i remember it being talked about alot and i have never installed a 3wire A new code is put out every three years Wiki says 1999 here is a link
- Q: I was in my attic today and I stepped on a cable and it snapped How do I fix this?
- Just follow the National Electrical Code and it will tell you what rule's shall be followed. It is NOT a reference guide for amateurs, therefore, if you don't know what article the General Wiring Methods are off the top of your head, please do the responsible thing for you, your family AND your home by calling a professional electrician. THIS IS NOT FOR OUR GOOD. It is for your safety. Good luck in all you do and may God bless.
- Q: Water pipe in the next line in which the norms have to solve
- 1: the bridge can be anti-rat and other animals bite line 2: can go high overhead, the late wiring can not go dark lines, can only take the high-altitude line 3: the bridge is very standardized, easy maintenance later 4: waterproof and anti-light,
- Q: Hi, I have a couple questions about electrical wiring. What size Amp wire should I use for a washer and dryer? Also, can I use a 20 Amp wire on a 15 amp breaker? Thanks for your timepb4sc
- OMG your question gave me the shivers.Ive been an electrician for over 30 yrs, recommend you hire someone who knows a bit more , wait a lot more, than you do. Sorry but Ive seen many get seriously hurt with this. As far as your answer, most washers, need a 20 amp 115 volt circuit, usually should be dedicated to the washer alone with nothing else on the circuit.(many dont however but thats what i recommend) and NOOOO you cannot use a 20 amp wire on a 15 amp circuit , well you actually can but wht purpose would that do? the circuit would still be rated 15 amps. Now a dryer 99% of the time requires a separate circuit. 220 volts at 30 amperes. this is the normand do not even think of wiring this if you dont know howyou also willneed a new breaker and so on
- Q: I have a crap signal coming downstairs from my wireless modem upstairs. I was looking at buying a better wireless modem when the guy redirected me to this thing that you plug into your electrical outlet, and then there's a receiver to plug into an outlet near the second computer. He claims that it sends a far better signal than wireless because it sends the signal through your houses electrical wires.Anyone have any experience with it? Is it good? Also what's it called because I'm having a heck of a time looking it up online lmao.
- Ethernet over power line adapters They are better than wireless, when they work. You have to use the outlets directly, you cannot use power bars or extension cords with them. Some have issues when on different sides of the power lines (each half of the 240V). Just try different outlets if having issues.
- Q: i have only three buttons, 2 light bulbs, and tons of wiresi need to make button #1 light up light #1and button #2 light up light #2and button #3 light up light #1 and 2thanks5 stars for correct working answer

- Q: I have a 9 week old kitten that while playing, she continues to bite or play with my electrical cords from my tv, computer, etc. I have zip tied all of my wires and carefully tucked them away, but when I am not around, she finds them and pulls them out and begins to play with them. She has even taken the plastic baby proof electrical socket covers out and continues to attack the sockets. When I have sen her playing with these things, I have tried to make loud noises and shout no or clap my hands, but all she does is look at me like I am stupid. I don't want her to get hurt, and I am trying to avoid having to buy new cords and cables. What can I do?
- smear a little bit of hot sauce on the wires. It wont damage the wires, and it will stop the kitten from biting the wires. My sister has a cat and her cat had the same problem. she put hot sauce on the wires 1 time and when th cat went to play with the wires, she sniffed them, licked it, and ran to here water. my sister wiped of the hot souce and frisky (the cats name) never went near the wires again.
- Q: i know both of them are great conductors for electricity, but why is copper better and/or safer?
- Copper Vs Aluminum Wire
- Q: I obviously know that one is one and one is the other, but if you were on the street and saw a utility pole. How could You distinguish one to the other?
- Electrical cable is meant to carry power, lots of it. It doesn't matter so much as it can get interfered with, but does matter that it goes only to the right places, and not the wrong ones, which is why power cables use big insulators, and big connectors, and use big cables going to homes and businesses. Yes, they are what is higher on the telephone, because higher voltages require more separation from the people below. I will add, that for the most part, everybody gets the same power. What makes it theirs is the electric meter on the side of the house or store, or sometimes on a pole to the home. For communications, the name is getting the signal where it needs to be, with as little interference or loss. With that no external insulators are used. For traditional copper telephone lines, and to a degree fiber optics, a whole number of individual wires are in a cable. Each pair of wires is twisted to not interfere with others and reject outside noise, and connect with other cables or service drops with small connectors. Cable TV is signal, but because of frequency is on a coax. It id usually smaller than telephone feeders. It has cast aluminum boxes on it, for amplifiers, power injectors (which have a box which connects to the power lines on a pole), and taps to which customer drops connect.
