- Q: I am making a turtle out of Sculpey clay and the bake temp on the box is 275FI use this clay a lot and I just recently read that I can use fiberfill to set the clay in when it bakes so the head doesn't sag or get lines from being supported by tin foilHow hot can 100% polyester fiberfill get in the oven? My oven runs hot, so I typically bake at 250F for about half an hour to forty five minutes (the turtle is relatively fat)Also, will the fiberfill bake into the clay and leave a texture? I have a ball of tinfoil on the inside of the turtle to conserve clay, and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this in the oven, covered in clayI plan on putting it in a cool oven at first and heating it up so it expands with the clay, but I'm worried about air pocketsShould I try and poke holes in the clay piece and patch them up later, or do you think it will be fine?
- Besides the long detailed message, there should be at least a mention of getting a separate oven thermometer for well under $10, because, as you say, ovens run hot or cold from the knob setting and getting the guess wrong you get burning and nasty fumesIf you are making the turtle with foil core the thickness of the clay determines the baking time, not the size of the body.

- Both Aluminum alloys are thermally hardened but 2024 T3 is softer than 6061 T3 hence the former is easier to roll. However, these alloys have relatively low fatigue limits and if bent at a very small radius, may crack. If you need an alluminum alloy that is more manageable to roll, try the strain hardened ones, the ones with an H hardening desination such as 5086 H32.
