Q: Can I fet free solar panels. This site okorder sells a book that tells how to, but I ordered tha book more then a year a go, and in never came. I even sent them a email a day for more then 3 months and never heard back from them. If anyone knows how to get free pannels, please let me know how. A $300.00 a month bill is slowly killing me.
If you sent payment via the US mail, report them for fraud. Next, solar panels usually have a high upfront cost for the homeowner - but this is usually offset by a tax refund. The amount of refund varies by area. Check out the cost with a local installer - they have the most motivation to know all the tax breaks you can get. Then save for it, and in the mean time switch your bulbs to fluorescents, unplug your coffee pot, computer, VCR, microwave when off, and see if your energy company provides free insulation evaluation services. And reduce your temperature this winter by 2 degrees, and change that furnace filter.
Q: How do solar panels perform in extreme temperatures?
Solar panels can still generate electricity in extreme temperatures, but their performance may be slightly affected. High temperatures can cause a decrease in efficiency, as the heat reduces the panel's ability to convert sunlight into electricity. However, modern solar panels are designed to withstand a wide range of temperatures, and their efficiency losses are generally minimal. In extremely cold temperatures, solar panels can actually perform slightly better due to the improved conductivity of the solar cells. Overall, while extreme temperatures can have a small impact on solar panel performance, they are still a reliable and efficient source of renewable energy in various weather conditions.
Q: I have a 20 watt solar panel that I want to set up. I need to connect it to the solar controller but do not know what cable to use. I plan on adding more solar panels down the line. What would be the best cable to use?
How long is the run? 2 gauge is a good choice for runs up to 25 feet at 20 watts, if you are much further in your run, move to 0 gauge to reduce resistance of the wire itself in the circuit. Otherwise refer to the prevailing electrical code of your local unit government. This is a must if you plan to maintain insurance. At lower voltage, a little resistance means a lot. 4 gauge might be okay for 20 VAC, but the voltage drop on a low voltage system from resistance of the wire itself is measurable at 20 feet. It is the difference between a light fixture working or not. If you are planning on adding additional panels in the future, you can get terminal buss with screw hold downs at various vendors like Mouser or Digi key. Each panel can be on it's own screw, while the buss is common on the other side of the connection. one for the positive and one for the negative.
Q: If a solar panel has a power rate of 80 Watts and efficiency of lets say 30%. Does that mean the maximum power this solar panel can generate is (30/00)*80=54 Watts or its just 80 Watts?
If it says STC or Standard Test Conditions on the nameplate or documentation, then that means 80 watts under bright sun at an unrealistically cool temperature. It is rare to see that power in real life, except when the perfect storm of conditions come together. There is also a PTC rating for some panels, which is more realistic. If the panel does not say STC or PTC, the manufacturer is free to make up whatever test they feel like, which generally leads to ridiculously overstated power. As for efficiency, for residential panels, that's generally only of academic interest. A 80-watt panel is 80 watts, regardless of the efficiency. A more efficient panel will take up slightly less space, but most people are more interested in the total price, since roof space is generally not an issue.
Q: I'm building a solar panel for the first time and have the tabbed solar cells. I put together 4 strings of 9 cells. And the cells are each 0.55V, 3.6A.Because I'm going to be using the panel indoors and leaning it up against a window pane, I put them in a 24x36 inch poster-size frame. The frame has a plexiglass cover and a thick cardboard backing. My question to you is this. Will the cardboard backing up against the metal underside (positive side) of the solar cells be ok? I don't know if it may catch fire or if holes may burn through when there's full sun.My guess here is it should be ok. But maybe I'm wrong. If I am wrong, or if something should be put in between, please let me know what I should use. Thanks everyone!

Q: By best I mean safest places. If I were to install them on my roof am I risking due to damage from weathering? Such as rain or snow. I don't get very high winds around here, nor any natural disasters such as hurricanes or tornadoes. Does anyone have solar panels that have been durable for a long time? Is it worth the investment?
Photovoltaic panels are designed to be put on a roof, exposed (obviously) to sun, but also rain, snow, and wind. Generally, there is even a rating for something like hail. A good mounting system will be stronger than the underlying roof, so will withstand most anything short of a direct hit by a tornado or hurricane. There are a few panels from the 70's (that's the 970's) still in operation, I believe. They look horrible, but are still producing a little electricity. Since then, housings have improved, and panels generally have a 25-year warranty today (some cheap ones are 20-year warranty).
Q: Can solar panels increase the value of commercial properties?
Yes, solar panels can increase the value of commercial properties. Installing solar panels not only reduces energy costs but also demonstrates a commitment to sustainability, which is increasingly appealing to businesses and consumers. Additionally, solar panels can generate income through government incentives like feed-in tariffs or by selling excess electricity back to the grid. These factors contribute to a higher property value, making it an attractive investment for potential buyers or tenants.
Q: i need someone to advice me which solar panels to buy.i have looked into few companies and i need some more info before decidingthe companies i checked were Sun tech trina solar Canadian solar and LDK solar.whice company should i pick?? please help.
If all things are equal buy local. If you are building for a LEED project then choose a manufacture within 500 miles. Another reason to choose a local panel is that if things go wrong there is a better chance of a satisfactory resolution. A no name knockoff from overseas might prove to be difficult to find a few years down the road. One good place to check is the Go Solar California website. They have proof of performance testing on hundreds of panels.
Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high levels of noise or vibration?
Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with high levels of noise or vibration. Solar panels are designed to withstand various environmental conditions, including noise and vibration. However, it is important to ensure that the mounting structure and installation are done properly to minimize any potential impact on the panels' performance.
Q: I live in Hawaii and having a solar panel is not a bad idea since we have plenty of sun the only problem is that it cost a lot of money and takes many years before you get your money back. There are kits available where you can make and install your own solar panel and wind turbine but is it bull **** or is it a good deal?
In my opinion, it is a losing equation. They will wear out and go bad long before you break even with your investment. The technology isn't there yet for the average homeowner. Save energy costs using other methods.
