Q:I accidentally tiled over an outlet cover. What can I do to fix this issue with out having to remove all the tile?
Probably not much you can do except remove that piece of tile if you which one it is.... If you can find the feed wire to the rec. disconnect the elect. from that rec. and put in a new rec. somewhere else....There is a device that will tell you where the rec. is if it will read thru the tile... If you know an eletrician...Talk to him about your problem..... Probably would not be a good idea to just leave it there ...Could cause a problem over time...
Q:Right now the wall is horrible paneling, I am drywalling the house, but I really want one wall tiled with granite tiles. Would it be better to do this on the paneling or drywall? Will it be too heavy and rip the wall down? Is there a safe way to do this?
Yes, you can tile walls with granite tiles. There is a difference in thickness between floor and wall tiles. All you have to do is make certain that the granite tiles you get are made for the wall and not the floor. If you put floor tiles on the wall, they will be too heavy. If you put wall tiles on the floor, they will be too thin to support weight and will crack and break. As for what wall to put them on, it doesn't really matter, as wall tiles will stay up on either wall. As for my personal suggestion, put them on the horrible panel wall. This way, you get rid of the horrible wall and you won't have the extra cost of taking it off and putting on drywall.
Q:like on the tiles of the floor
Well, if you're using self-stick vinyl tiles, I guess so. You can remove them using a spatula. I guess they would stick to just about any clean smooth surface, like tile, without harming it. If you have really bad CERAMIC tile floor, with tiles missing I would first try to get some tiles from a tile shop, any color, and glue them into the holes. This way the vinyl tiles won't sink into holes. I would buy only the self-stick vinyl tiles, not the kind that need special adhesive. Maybe you can buy a few, stick them down, and see what happens. If you don['t get the floor sopping wet it will be fine. Another thing you could do: Make a big paper full size pattern of bath floor, using tape, glue, kraft paper (available in large wide roll at home depot. Cut and fit pieces so that you fit all edges well. Buy a piece of SHEET VINYL FLOORING, lay the pattern on top, mark edges with fine Sharpie marker, cut carefully, using construction utility knife. with vinyl flooring laid on top of thin wood, so you can cut through with knife. Or maybe the place you buy sheet flooring will cut it for you. Lay it in place. You may have to glue with 1 inch wide around edges, but can do this later. Just remember, if your paper pattern is poor fit, your final floor will make it look even worse.
Q:I think the thinset under some of my ceramic tiles is crumbling. I have a concrete slab floor and it involves about 12 tiles between my kitchen and dining room. The grout and tiles have not cracked yet, but how would I fix the thinset without breaking up the good tiles?
Tedr is right.. W/O seeing it its hard to tell.. Get down on your hands and knees and rap on it w/ your knuckles.. If it sounds hollow and then solid on another part that isn t making sounds then more than likely it s loose tile and just the gout and pressure is holding it together..Seen it many times.. Trdr has many of causes right too.. But its hard to say just what it is GL
Q:The interior of my shower is all glazed ceramic tile. I have always used Tilex for cleaning with no problem. Recently I used a Lysol Bathroom cleaner and now I haved horrible white streaks down the walls where I sprayed it. How can I get rid of the streaks? Is it the product that made them? I spent a lot of money building this shower. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!111
White streaks on the TILE? - or the painted walls. The only thing I can think is that that lysol bathroom cleaner was so powerful that it melted your grout (the stuff between the tiles) Only a very strong acid (murriatic?) would melt your tiles, that is ordinary white glazed (shiny) - try cleaning tiles w/car wax - polish - this will clean and make them shine. If your grout is ok - you can wax that too!
Q:Moved into a house where prior owner used glazed porcelain tile. Job unfinished but a little tile left behind. Not enough! Can anyone help me find GEO CERAMICHE Natura Sable BL 12x12 (or larger, I can cut it down). Have looked online to no avail (yet). Neighbors tell me the tile was bought at least 4 years ago but not later. Can anyone help me find 5 pieces of this tile?
Find where the tile was bought 1st.. Many big box stores will private label name brand tiles ( and many products) so you can t cross shop them..After 4 years I won t give you much of a chance to find them ..sorry... Styles change along w/ technology and they switch things to change w/ the times. It may be still available but chances are slim..Is it in a place that some sort of mosaic can be used as a decoration? Or maybe a good rug? Start w/ the big box stores but don t waste to much gas chances are slim .. I wish you luck ..
Q:CAN YOU LAY TILE OVER TILE
If your existing tile is tight to the floor and in good shape (no cracks, loose tile, loose grout) yes you can. You need to use a thin set with a very high latex content like TEC Superflex. Be sure that the existing tile and grout is perfectly clean and there are no sealers left on the grout. This is an industry accepted method.
Q:all ceraminc tiles, mounted in between to tiles maybe?
The shelf could only appear to have been made from tile. The tiles are mounted on a subframe, covered with cementitious board and adhered with mortar, typically. With new construction (or major remodel), this is pretty straightforward; you'd just plan it in to the framing and finishing. With an existing shower, I'd have to say No, to this thought, because there'd be nothing to mount the tiles properly to. If you do get that far, you can get tiles with a specially shaped edge, called a bullnose that won't show the underside of the tile's body (an unglazed edge) for the edges of a surface, like a shelf. Grout can also be used to hide those 90 degree angles, if the bullnose tiles are not made to match the tile you are working with. Hope that helps/
Q:The tile I want to clean was built with the house back in the early 1900‘s but still in very good condition what would be the best way to clean that because its very dirty, and i think its porcealin. The second set of tile looks like it was put in back in the seventies but doesn‘t match the original tile at all, what would be the best way to change the color other than replacing it. Could i use pray paint?
If it is those white hexagonal tile about 1 inch u can use a liqiud soap warm water and bleach, usin a tooth brusg to clean n the grooves, if some tile was replaced leave it u wont finad a perfect match.......................Ive live in houses before that have the same thing and you have to replace all the tile to get the same color
Q:I have really old honeycomb tile in my bathroom and it would be extremely difficult to remove it. The surface is pretty flat .Would ceramic tile work best , or something like self stick vinyl tiles?
The answer to your question is NO...The reason is that you would end up with cracking tiles and lifting. Not to mention that the cement won't stick long term. You can rent a tile remover for little cost if you are willing to put in a weekend of sweat equity. It sure beats spending thousands on a contractor to do it.
