Q:how to turn square foot into tiles?
13x11=143 s/f. All tile is sold by the s/f and a lot of times by the whole box. So w/o knowing the size of tile your using or the box size we can t help other than giving you a total s/f of the room.. Added tiles will be needed but again w/o the tile size its hard to figure in the scrap you ll need for cuts. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:White Tiles With Grey Spots?
Tile won t stain under normal circumstances so I suspect the glaze is a bit worn off rt in front of the fridge.. That can be a wet spot that will dry eventually or stain the tile body in which you have no choice but to r and r the tile(s).. GL
Q:i need Porcelain tile advice.?
Yes, 24x24 square edge tile is very accurately sized and can be laid with 1/16 joint. But only with careful attention to every detail. The slab needs to be dead on, less than 1/8 in ten feet variation. If a 10' straight edge placed on the slab has a space of more than 1/8 under it you will need self-leveling mortar. Flat trowel the back of each tile with thinset just prior to setting it. Move the notched trowel so all the ridges are parallel. Do not move the trowel in random directions. You will trap air under the tile and when you try to level them thinset will ooze out and make a mess. Try to apply thinset with the accuracy that once the tile is set it doesn't need to be adjusted. If the floor is flat, the thinset is consistant and the tile is accurate, you can't help but have a good floor I would reccomend at least 3/16 grout. Finish the grout as flat as possible, with new sponges and minimal water. Pre-seal the tile before grouting to make clean-up easy.
Q:Can I remove a bathroom tile without breaking it?
Have done just that. Could not find (or take the time ) to find matching tile. Borrowed tiles from behind cabinet base to patch wall . Grout saws as mentioned are OK. Had better luck w/ a serrated steak knife because of thinner blade. Started in area where drain entered the wall broke one to get things moving. Mastic was used to hold tile to wallboard used a heat gun Guess a hair dryer would do. Once I got movement (prying w/ knife) it was nervous work but I got what I needed. Cleaned edges backs of the transplant tiles used construction adhesive to reset. Used some mismatched tiles to replace old ones just to even up the wall. Take your time. Best regards
Q:HELP - Dirty, Grungy Tile?
Can't help with the tub as I've no experience with that. For the floor, after giving it a good clean, try a steam cleaner like Karcher. It works a treat on floor and wall tiles. They aren't cheap (ours cost over £140) but WELL worth it as it can be used to clean all sorts of stuff that doesn't mind water (non-porous things).
Q:Tiling countertop?
You can do that no problem. Particle board is a very stable material as long as it doesn't get and stay wet a long time. Make sure you seal the edges of the particle board (if you're not covering them with tile). That's the area that's most vulnerable to water damage because of water that drips off of the top of the counter. But I have to say....tile as a counter is outdated and tacky. Get with the program. Use solid granite or solid surfacing. Tiled counter tops are embarrassing.
Q:Ceramic tile??
No. Unless you put concrete backer board over the vinyl first, then the tiles onto the backer board. The only problem with this is that you would be raising your floor by an inch or so, and could run into problems with door jambs, molding, transitions, etc.
Q:Bathroom needs floor tile.?
Yes you ll have to pull the stool up and depending on what you sub flooring is now will depend how you treat the stool and wax ring and flange later. There isn t a stock answer with the info you gave. Some times the flange is raised enough to accommodate raising the floor with tile and a 1/2 cement board( if needed). If the flooring is on a slab them the tile will go right up to the flange and stool set atop with a normal or extra thick ring. In 20+ years I ve never had a tile crack under a stool. As long as there is the correct amount of thin set under the tile and any subflooring you add is properly put down,it ll be fine. Stools don t have to be tight tight bolted down just firmly snugged up . Almost ( almost ) any tile will work in a bathroom situation , but get a slip resistant type, one with at least a class III rating is my recommendation Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:can I paint over bathroom tile?
Technically, you can paint over almost anything if you use the right product for the job. In your case, i would suggest you firstly clean the tile thoroughly and make sure they are fully dried before working on them. Then prime it with a primer which is my favourite for difficult surfaces. called X I M Its an alkyd based primer that basically seals and adhere to any surface as the base coat. Then you can basically paint any paint of your choice over it without the fear of delamination. I have even use this method on mirrors and they work fine. Since this is a bathroom, enamel paint as the top coat will be a better choice since its easier to maintain and clean. You can get This Primer at you local paint shop or you can order them online under the paint supplier links. I get mine from JANOVIC...
Q:What is the drill bit?
Ordinary glazed tiles can be hammer or dual-use drill with the impact drill, The tiles should be fitted with hand drill with glass drill.
