Q: My husband ( yes...the one with the dents in his head from the cooker hood ) is fixing rustic tiles in my kitchen. He has done loads of tiling with plain tiles ( i.e straight edges!!) but we're wondering about spacing these with irregular edges. Very little advice on the web apart from to space them more widely which doesn't really help! Anyone done this and pleased with the result?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ..you will either love them or not ..they don't suit everybody ...these rustic tiles as you know have misshapen edges ...but they are all the same shape!...so lay them out flat ...you will need nine ...and work out beforehand the way the tiles are to be laid ...if you do them all the same way you can work out the spacers ...but you must keep to the pattern ...when grouted no one will see there is a pattern
Q: my tiles are filthy....theres white dust every where and I guess what ever they used to patch the wall or something on the floor....I swept and mopped but it still looks horrible.
tile lab makes a heavy duty cleaner and stripper for tiles you can try that.
Q: i going to tile my whole house both floors bath room and all with the same tile it is a 20x20 tile diagonally where should i start and does it really matter where ?
Start doing the largest area and do a 1/2 tile on the out side wall. All interior walls are supposed to be layed out to the out side and be square. Now if you have a long visible hall way near by, you may want to split that to get a good look at it from there. Its hard to positively say with out seeing it. I could visualize it then. Since this is a diagonal you cant control to much where the tiles land. If it were a straight lay, you d have a bit more control as to the layout. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q: I am going to lay bathroom floor tiles in my bathroom but I have some questions before I start. 1. Can I lay the new tiles over the existing floor, which is vinyl flooring? Or do I have to remove that first? 2. If I have to remove the vinyl flooring do I have to add cement backer board? Or can I lay the tile right over whatever is under the vinyl flooring? 3. I have trim along that floor that I will be re-attaching, do I lay the tile right up to the wall or do I put a space in between the wall and the edge tile? Do I then grout into that space between the wall and the edge tile?
No need. Just apply the mud and screw down the board. Allow 1 day dry and you can start laying the tile You only need at least 1/4 inch. Between tiles you can go to 1/8
Q: I live in a single-level ranch style house but on a concrete pad. I am re-tiling the kitchen floor. Upon removing the old tile, I discovered a 15 lb. felt pad had been glued to the floor; on top of this pad was thin set; then the tile. I live in Bakersfield, CA which is a dry and arrid climate.

Q: I was told that you can use slate (indoor/outdoor flooring) tiles outside on walkway if you mortar them over a concrete walkway.Do they have to be mortared to a concrete walk or is there another way to place the tiles?Part 2. Can you use concrete you mix at home from a bag for laying a new small concrete walkway or do you have to order mixed concrete from a concrete supplier?

Q: I have installed tile around my shower and and ready to fill in the gaps between the tile. Grouting looks messy and I don‘t know how to do it. Is there a grout that comes in a tube that can be put into a caulk gun? Can I just caulk the whole thing? This one is new to me so any help is appreciated!!!
Use grout to fill the gaps between your tiles. Work in with a rubber float on a 45 degree angle. Press in hard. Wipe off excess grout from tile with a damp sponge. Use silicone caulk in the corner joints to allow for expansion.
Q: China's top ten ceramic tile brand ranking?
1 De Gao DAVCO 2 · Marble MAPEI 3 · Nippon 4 Sai Lite CERESIT 5. Bose glue Bostik BASF BASF 7. Oliya OLY 8. Rainbow YUHONG 9. more
Q: Right now the wall is horrible paneling, I am drywalling the house, but I really want one wall tiled with granite tiles. Would it be better to do this on the paneling or drywall? Will it be too heavy and rip the wall down? Is there a safe way to do this?
Yes you can. However, to simply apply tile to the wall as it is now will not work. You will need to install a cement backer board in place of the drywall. This backer backer board will need to be screwed into the wall studs with 2 1/2 - 3 screws. The seams will need to be taped as similar to drywall. There are many other options available to you other than tile to achieve the look you are wanting. For instance, a plaster compound can be applied to the wall and made to look like a block or stone wall. Stucco or Faux finishes may be a cheaper and easier alternative.
