Q:I want to rip up the old linoleum in my bathroom and install some tile. The previous owners laid the current layer of linoleum on top of the original linoleum. From the little bit I‘ve peeled up to look underneath it looks like chip board underneath that. Does that mean I need to lay some kind of backerboard underneath the tile? I also plan on tearing out the curent cabinets and installing new ones. Should I install the tile or the cabinets first?
Tile should go down first. However, if you want the tile to lay flush against the cupboards as opposed to being underneath the cupboards, then you should install the cupboards first. Just make sure you seal that edge between the cupboards and the tile. You need to lay backerboard down first because that will keep the floor from accidentally suffering water damage, which so often happens in a bathroom.
Q:How to seal new Porcelin Tile
Porcelain tile is not porous so sealing is not recommended and can make it slippery like a sheet of ice...You can seal the grout in between though.
Q:I have this ceramic tile in my bathroom (on the wall, not the floor). There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, except it is an incredibly ugly color. I would like to paint it, rather than rip it all down just to put up more tile. Any suggestions?
If you go to the DIY store I would think you would get paint especially for the job. When you have a smooth surface to get paint or varnish to stick to it you need to give it a key (ie use sand paper to give it something to grip) This wouldnt work here as it would damage your tiles. Another thought is you get these transfers which are just squares a different colour that you can put on tiles maybe that would be worth a go.
Q:Does anyone know how to refinish or paint ceramic tile? Or a website showing me how? Please help! =)
My okorder for info on that one. We did that years ago....and it works for a while. It is not a permanent solution however. I remember we had to clean it really good with TSP rinse, then sand it clean again with TSP rinse let dry, and then using I think an enamel paint to paint it. That takes awhile to dry too like a few days, and re-coat it. And let that dry for about 4 more days...It did work for a few months or longer as I remember....but we ultimately tore it out and re did the tile.
Q:We are laying 18 x 18 porcelain tiles in our kitchen for an open house we‘re having in 6 days. We can‘t figure out when and how to tile under the refrigerator. Do we have to move the refrigerator into another room? Can we wait two days for the mortar and grout to set firm and move the refrigerator onto the newly installed tile so we can lay tile where refrigerator will go? If we do that, should we then wait 24 hours for that tile to set so we can move the refrigerator back into place? What is the best way to handle the installation? I would appreciate any thoughts on how this is most ideally done.
I have always tiled under the fridge first if possible, move the fridge into the nearest room. Then after about two days after you finish then very gently use two pieces of plywood, half inch, move the fridge back over these two pieces, one at a time until the fridge is in.
Q:What is the pattern of tile sales now?
The sales plan is the basis for every salesperson's job, and sales of big companies are written to do the job. Of course there are many small companies on the sales staff do not plan, do not train, do not guide, only the pursuit of sales. One can imagine, most sales staff are difficult to complete the sales task, the company set the sales task has become a castle in the air, simply just a decoration or a dead letter. So, how can a salesman treat a sales plan? I think to be a good salesman, no matter what kind of company you are, no matter what kind of boss you face, elaborate sales plan is the root of your sales task. So how do you write a sales plan? Just do a salesman or just to a new company, you have to do the work is to understand the product, and then understand the sales channels, and then understand the market. First busy writing sales plan, so you think the market situation, product conditions have a certain understanding, we must write the first sales plan. This plan should be the embodiment of your sales ideas, do not need to write a specific task, just write your own sales channels, how to develop customers and your understanding of product sales.
Q:Hi, I just wanted to know if Ceramic tiles are better than stone tiles? When we signed a contract for a new house, they offered us Stone tiles, but now they are calling us and telling that they do not offer stone tiles instead ceramic tiles are now standard. I wanted to know which one is better and why?
Ceramic tile is cheaper than stone but we have installed ceramic or porcelain tiles in all bathrooms for the ease of upkeep. Stone does look richer but it needs to be sealed at least once a year maybe more. The sealing part is easy but the stone tile needs to be completely clean first. That is the 'hard work' part. Ceramic tile will hold up to almost anything in a bathroom and the grout is the only thing that needs sealing. (You'd probably have grout to seal with the stone too) If you signed for stone, I'd make sure that they are going to give you some kind of refund for the difference of the cost. They are saving a a few bucks here so make them pass it on.
Q:What purpose does it serve? Is it safe to assume the tile will settle half of the trowel thickness? For example, if using a 1/4 inch trowel, will the tile settle 1/8 inch when set in place? Thanks for any help/advice!
Thinset cements the tile to the subfloor. The settling depends on the tile, and whether or not you press it down.
Q:How many types of tiles are there?
5) Mosaic: specifications, thin and small, hard texture, acid, alkali, wear, no water, strong pressure, not broken, colorful and versatile. Ceramic mosaic. Is the most traditional kind of mosaic, known for small and exquisite, but more monotonous, lower grade. B. Marble Mosaic. Is a medium-term development of a mosaic varieties, colorful, but its poor acid and alkali resistance, water resistance is not good, so the market is not very good reflection. C. Glass mosaic. The colorful glass brings vigorous vitality to the mosaic. It is based on the different varieties of glass, but also divided into a variety of small varieties: I) Melt glass mosaic. To silicate as the main raw material, melted at high temperature and was formed under the opaque or semi-opaque, containing a small amount of bubbles and non-melting particles of glass mosaic. Ii) Sintered glass mosaic. To glass powder as the main raw material, adding appropriate amount of binder and so on into a certain size of the green body; in a certain temperature sintered glass mosaic. Iii) Venus Glass Mosaic. Containing a small amount of bubbles and a certain amount of metal crystal particles, with a clear light flashing glass mosaic. Common specifications: Mosaic common specifications are 20 × 20mm, 25 × 25mm, 30 × 30mm, thickness in order between 4mm-4.3mm.
Q:We have an installer, whom seems to be doing it wrong. I can‘t find any website that explains how to install tile the way he is doing it. Can you tell me if this sounds correct?First he puts mortar on the bare cement floor, then put down versa-bond or a bonding agent.. and then he puts more mortar on the tile and then lays it down.. Does this sound right to you? Thanks
