- Q: whats the best way to remove it??? Put it on bathroom tiles but it is all chipping off and doesnt look pretty
- if you painted right over ceramic tile it should come off with a razor blade scraper -- if the paint is in the grout you may never get it off there-- not sure what type of paint you used -- some oil paints can be removed with laquer thinner or paint thinner ---
- Q: want to tile counter top with out using hardboard
- It can and will hold up on one condition w/o a backer board. The top must be 2 3/4 ply wood or nova ply( HDF) , not the single layer counter top with the false edge that makes it look like its 1 1/2 thick. Other wise you need a backer board so the tile meets tile codes( ATC and TCA guide lines) for a minimum substrate which is 1 1/4 A few special thing need to be done but it will work. Any questions you can e mail me thru my avatar and check my qualifications GL
- Q: Just started tiling my tub surround and I have two very similar layouts graphed up. The actual colors of the tile and listello will be different than the ones shown in the pictures, so don‘t look at the computerized colors since they aren‘t accurate. The layout however, is pretty darn close to what I am planning on doing.
- In any tile job, if it doesn't end at a wall you should use a cap tile like in the first picture or a bullnose, whichever fits your particular tile layout. The both have one rounded edge that dies down to the adjoining wall and finishes the job off. If you just leave the tile itself the only option to finish off the tile edge is to lay grout up to it, caulk it, or run some kind of molding up the edge. It costs more to run the cap tile, but in the long run the expense of tiling the wall supports the added expense of cap.
- Q: I am renovating, and have always loved white coloured tiles but am now starting to like these light coloured hardwood Tasmanian Oak Floorboards ....I have no idea on prices yet, what would cost more? and which one would look more beautiful??PS- i would NEVER put floating floorboards - they are cheap and nasty!
- Hardwoods are classic. You can never go wrong with hardwood floors as far as resell value. I renovated two years ago. We have a 1500 sq/ft home. We did tile in the bath and hardwoods everywhere else. My husband wanted to tile the kitchen as well but we were talked out of it due to labor costs. Cleaning tile grout is troublesome, sealing it is ineffective if you have food stains or mud or something. My tile floors are very pretty but I regret it. Be sure to get real hardwood with NO laminate at all. Some hardwood floors are real wood on the surface but laminated onto a synthetic bottom. Be careful that way. Things to ask before choosing: How many times can they be refinished? Are they glued or nailed? (Glued are crappy, nailing is much more effective.) How do I clean them? (I use a steamer, no chemicals.) Will my subfloor support the hardwood? (we had to install a new subfloor). Oak and Hickory are the best HARD woods to choose from.
- Q: I wish to change the bathroom colour,re-tileing is too expensive so maybe painting the tiles is a option howbest do i prepare for this
- John, I know of no one that has painted over ceramic tile and is satisfied with the results. It's a finish that will not hold up through the constant use of cleaning products. Retiling is honestly the anser. It can be done easily. You'll want to cut through the drywall along the edge of the existing tile aolong the entire perimeter. Remove all the drywall and tile (still adhered to the drywall) in sections. Place cardboard or something that will protect the tub while this process occurs. After that install 1/2' hardi-backer with 1 1/2 screws and install the tile. If you use the 4x4 glazed tile, you can rent a tile cutter for about $15 (or buy one for double that). The tile will cost about $1.40p/sf. Typically you'd need about 70sf of tile (or around $110.00), and 50 pcs of 2x6 cap (about $70) and 2pcs 2x2 corner cap ($4). Grout will run $15. The hardi backer will be $50. Mastic to set tiles will be around $30. An alternative is lay tile over the existing. You will have to remove the existing soap dish to do this.. You save the cost of hardibacker, and some labor. If you do endeavor into this, set the soap dish with the grout, not the mastic. it's a common mistake by DYIers. Use some tape to hold it in place until the grout dries.
- Q: Only whole tiles are used. How many tiles are neither diagonal tiles nor edge tiles?
- If there are 121 tiles and both tiles and floor are square, this means there are 11 by 11 tile used on the floor (square root of 121 is 11) So if we exclude the edges, this means we have 9 by 9 tiles And there are 9 tiles on each diagonal but the one in the center is shared so we have total of 9+9-1=17 tiles on diagonals of this inner tiles with 9 by 9 So for 9 by 9 tiles we have 9x9=81 tiles and excluding 17 tiles on diagonals; the answer is 81-17=64 tiles.
- Q: I absolutely hate the tile in our main bath, its coming up and in a few places there is no grout, so its basically looks awful. The bathroom is my dogs fav place to be and i am constantly sweeping the gobs of hair that get in the cracks. Are there any suggestions for an eay fix? How much trouble would it be to just fill the cracks with grout and put stick tile over it? Would that be a ridiculous idea?
- YOUR IDEA IS BRILLIANT AND RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE
- Q: Okay, I‘m doing a tub surround with porcelain tile. Got the last cut around the fixtures that requires a hole to be cut in the center of the tile. Long story short, I‘ve busted 22 tiles trying. I‘ve tried every single drill bit I‘ve got. Everything from metal hole punchers to concrete bits. Nothing even scratches this porcelain tile. Any tips on how to punch a hole in this tile? I‘m desperate!
- If you'd tried Big T advise and it didn't work then there's another way. Cut the tile in two pieces and notch out the pipe hole with a blade for cutting tile (a hand blade) it's easier then tossing out 22 bad pieces.
- Q: I purchaced this tile in 2003 fromThe Tile Shop. I had an incident occure which led me to look for 5 more tiles. I was told by The Tile Shop that they were discontinued. I‘ve called everywhere( in Kansas and Missouri). So far I haven‘t had any luck. where can I find the ceramic tile color Yosemite Sand 13 inch square. I need atleast 5 of them. Thank You..
- you okorder . they have alot of hard to find tiles.
