- Q: I have never tiled before. I have a 3 x3 ft entrance in my house. I would like to remove the old tile and re tile it. How long should this take? and can I just tile over the old tile or does it have to be removed? but mostly how long should it take me to do?
- Tiling over the original tile is not a good idea. The door in your entry way will most likely hit anyway. The time involved will mostly be in the prep of the area ie taking up the old tile and thin set. After that is done mixing the new thin set and laying the new tile should go rather quickly. You then have to wait 24hrs to grout the tile. The actual tiling should only take a couple of hours and then of course the time till you can grout.
- Q: The kind of tile is a good tiles?
- The higher the accuracy of the tile side, the better the effect after paving, buy high-quality tiles is not only easy to construction, but also save man-hours and accessories. With the tape measure the size of each tile around the difference between the high accuracy of the top grade. First-line brand Huidang's tiles very good. hardness Tiles with good hardness, toughness, not easy to rot on the top grade. To the edge of the tile fragments scratches each other to see the broken pieces of broken pieces is fine or loose, is hard, brittle or softer, is left scratches, or scattered powder, if the former is the top grade, the latter is quality difference. Whether the standard is the key to determine the quality of the tile, with a tape or caliper measurement of the diagonal and four sides of the tile size and thickness are uniform, good tiles, sound crisp sound, indicating high porcelain content. If the sound "blah" with a stubble sound, indicating that the brick contains cracks. Good tiles, the master is also easy to install the installation, the installation of the effect is also standardized. pattern Good tiles pattern, pattern color clear and consistent, delicate and delicate process, no obvious color, dislocation, broken line or inconsistency of the depth.
- Q: What techniques and tools would make it easier to go through doorways when laying ceramic floor tile
- I use a piece of cardboard [like a cereal box] cut to the size of the tile then trim it to fit around the opening when it will lay in as the tile would I use it as a pattern to mark the tile to be cut. If all cuts are done right the tile will fit perfectly. good luck John
- Q: We are trying to sell our house so I‘m not interested in professionalism...just something that works and looks decent. We have a small full bathroom that has some tile coming off one of the walls. Looking at it, it seems the entire wall of tile is ready to come down. I need to fix this economically and I‘m assuming I need to do the entire wall. Any ideas how I should go about this? Are there large sheets of tile I can just stick up there? Do I need tile board (if that‘s even a real thing), etc...? Thanks all!

- Q: tiles on back splash, work done in south florida, 4x4 inch tiles
- Tile labor usually runs in the 3/5$ a s/f range. Doing a back splash usually closer to the 5$ a s/f .. This is a labor intensive job ( not hard just a lot of cuts etc) and with that amount of s/f it will run a day and a half, maybe 2 full days with the grouting and clean up.Any one telling you different isn t doing quality work. This price doesn t include the tile, adhesive or grout. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: I have a very outdated bathroom with pink tile covering just about every wall. I love to do DIY projects but can‘t afford to replace the tile. I can however afford to paint it. I read up on it and found the paint directions but don‘t want the end result to look tacky. Has anyone done this and liked the results?
- I had probably the same tile in my bathroom. It was half way up all walls and around the tub.. When I moved in (5 years ago), I cleaned, primed with original Kilz, and painted 2 coats of Zinsser Perma White paint in a satin finish. After 5 years and at least 3-5 showers a day, I have had to touch up a couple spots. You can definately tell it has been painted with a brush and roller, I think it looks a lot less tacky than pink tiles.
- Q: What procedure to use to keep the tiles from falling from the ceiling before the mortar dries.
- I was just thinking about this. Can you attach the tiles to backerboard or Durrock on the ground first and then glue the whole ceiling into place with 2x4 proping it up or leave a couple tiles out to also catch a few screws with the construction adhesive. later you can touch up around the edges and grout If NotHow about contact cement use alot of it though not a thin coat. OH and don't use mortar use construction adhesive it will actually stick and better then mastic. Mortar is for the floor
- Q: Someone told me its called tile- something) I know it has a nic-name, do you know it?
- Tile Row. It's on State College right past Anaheim Statium. My favorite tile store: Ed Pawlack Tile 601 W Lambert Rd. Brea, CA 92821 714.529.2364
- Q: I want to rip up the old linoleum in my bathroom and install some tile. The previous owners laid the current layer of linoleum on top of the original linoleum. From the little bit I‘ve peeled up to look underneath it looks like chip board underneath that. Does that mean I need to lay some kind of backerboard underneath the tile? I also plan on tearing out the curent cabinets and installing new ones. Should I install the tile or the cabinets first?
- A chip board product as underlayment for the tile would not work to your best interest. You can probably add the backerboard or a layer of plywood over the chipboard and deal with the added height, or you can peel up the chipboard and install a good layer of plywood and use that as your base.
- Q: Do they make that large of a difference? I am tiling my entire house, but can‘t find 1200 sq. ft. of the same tile dye number. I thought i could use different numbers in the bedroom. Is it going to be that noticable?
- Just buy a bunch of cases and mix them all up. See if theres an arrow on the back of the tile so you have them all pointed in the same direction.
