Q:What is the difference between tiles and ceramic tiles?
The difference between tiles and tiles is mainly due to water absorption. Water absorption is generally less than 0.5% for the tile, more than 10% for the ceramic tiles, between the two for the semi-porcelain. Usually a variety of polished tiles, glazed tiles, most of the sanitary ware is porcelain, water absorption is generally ≤ 0.5%; antique tiles, small tiles (to climb the wall), crystal tiles, wear-resistant tiles, Stoneware tiles, that is, semi-ceramic tile, water absorption 0.5% tiles, ceramic tubes, decorative tile, glass products are generally ceramic, water absorption> 10%. This is the important difference between tiles and ceramics

Q:removing rug and installing tile?
Yes you can do it yourself. But you'll need a lot of guidance. Probably too much to give you here. Is it on concrete? If so, you'll have less problems. If it's on wood, you'll have to tear up the first layer of the subfloor and lay down backerboard (hardibacker). There are two types. Use the 1/4 inch. The 1/2 inch is for walls. You'll need thin set, tile cutters, maybe tile nippers. Grout and a float. Then you'll probably have to replace the base boards. Are the base boards real wood or pressed wood? Pressed wood doesn't hold up very well in moist areas. I suggest real wood. Then don't forget to paint them with a mold resistant paint. Oh yes, don't forget to remove the toilet. You will want the partial tiles to end in a corner of the room that is the least obvious. You will have to do a dry lay to determine how to lay down the full tiles in the best way. (Dry lay is explained in the how to do it books.) I suggest you get a book on how to lay tiles. Also go down to Lowe's or Home Depot and go to their classes. Since each instructor lays tile differently, go to several of their classes and ask a lot of questions. There are many different tiles. Some are natural stone (marbel, travertine, granite). Some are man-made (ceramic). Some are cheap, some are expensive. But more importantly some are very smooth and slippery while others offer a little more traction. (With that said I layed down marble-very slippery in my bathrooms and kitchen simply because it looked so good!) Do your research before you begin your project. Think it out and ask a lot of questions to people that have done this. Laying the tile is easy. But it does take some basic knowledge. Good luck!!
Q:Has anyone sucessfully drilled into tiling or how do I remove tiles?
Standard masonry bit will go through most all tile..Depending what and why you want to drill through tile for, there are some tricks to make it easier.. If you want to take the tile down, the easiest way is to cut through the dry wall just above the last tile row. Pull down all the dry wall. By the time you take tile down and the damage that ll be done to the dry wall, its easier to remove and replace it all.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:How can the stickers on the tiles clean up?
1, first attached to the tiled surface of the stickers to tear off, with warm water (winter application of hot water) towel soaked in the stickers at the repeated wipe twice; then wet and wet towels marked with soap Traces of repeated wiping several times; finally with a clean wet and dry towel to wipe the soap, stickers traces were removed. The following are the same as the " 2, with a toothpaste evenly applied to the surface of the stickers, stay a little while, and then wipe with a soft cloth, and sometimes more stickers, more solid, just did not remove the traces of the re-applied toothpaste 3, with a pen paper knife scraping, suitable for glass, floor tiles and other hard bottom; rub with alcohol, suitable for glass, floor tiles, clothing, etc .; frozen, stickers after freezing hard, you can directly tear, Should not use alcohol, scrape and other methods.
Q:how to measure and install ceramic tile counter tops and back splash?
Yes you do get tile cement that will stick to smooth surfaces. You can all so rough the surface up with a coarse sandpaper. You do get a bonding liquid that you apply before you put the tile cement it helps with the bonding. Just make sure the counter top isn't flexible because that can cause problems All so make sure when you fill the tile joins with grout that it fills it good and make sure your grout is water resistant
Q:painting ceramic tile?
you should go and buy matching colour easiest way thanks
Q:Should I get porcelain tile for my kitchen?
I would highly recommend it (and Mike Holmes, the expert home builder on the DIY shows, also recommends porcelain). I had 12 sand-stone look porcelain tiles laid in my kitchen 3 years ago and I absolutely love the look and ease of cleaning. Mine are a reddish tan tone with a matter slightly textured surface that is not slippery. I had the installer use an almond tan sanded grout and then sealed the whole floor with two coats of sealer. It looks wonderfully elegant and is a snap to wipe up spills. If you are accustomed to vinyl flooring you will have to get used to the fact that anything you drop on porcelain is going to break (like a dish or a jar of tomato sauce) -- there is no bounce effect like with vinyl. But that is the only drawback. In fact, I like this flooring so much I plan to do my basement bathroom, den and outdoor porch in porcelain tile as well.
Q:need help to measure my tiles?
In constrution terms a square is 100 sq ft.But that's pretty much only used for roofs.I think what you need here is a measurement in square feet To get it just measure the floor both ways and multiply. I.e. If the room measures 10 Ft X 10 ft then you have 100 sq ft
