Q:What is lighter, stronger, and cheaper to buy? Carbon Fiber or High Tensile Steel?
Steel is much cheaper to buy, but weighs more than the carbon fiber and is not as strong as a rule. To save weight on a race car go with carbon fiber. To save weight (money) on the wallet go with steel.
Q:Physics! Steel pots and pans?
Stainless steel is less conductive than copper. However, steel will retain heat longer and thus be distributed more evenly. (hence the thick bottoms, but also for balance). Copper on tea kettles is ideal to bring water up to a boil rapidly but since your not really cooking food, temperature distribution or control doesn't really matter. Now if your cooking sensitive food, then it does matter. For example, the use of a double boiler is preferred for chocolates. Temperature and distribution is critical. As far as relatively inexpensive copper clad pots and pans such as Revereware? Well, I don't see a difference but perhaps they did some testing.
Q:Several reading methods of steel tape measure
Precise steel tape factory and after a period of time must go through the verification and indicate the verification of temperature, tension and feet. Feet marked on the length of its nominal length, and the difference between the actual length is called length correction delta l ruler by different tension will make feet long. To avoid this change requires the use of steel tape according to the scale mark force of steel tape. At different temperature the foot will change with the temperature so it is necessary to use t as variable function to represent the feet long, this is the ruler length equation, its general form:
Q:What is so special about Japanese steel?
After WWII, The United States in order to help the Japanese get back on their feet, sent over the equipment needed to make the newest types of foundries available at the time. While this was a big boon for the Japanese, this meant that most of our foundries were using the older technologies. Japanese Steel then had a bit of a edge on purity than ours did and when you have a purer steel, you have a better product. Since then, they've stayed at the top of the game when it comes to steel. Not only because of the equipment which we have caught up with them on and stay with them on, but because they also have a stronger tradition regarding steel. They have made quality steel blades that were decades ahead of what the West could produce. So you couple that quality of metallurgy with modern techniques we gave them, they took steel making and and ran with it to be one of the top steel producers in the world. Don't get me wrong. We in the US can make Steel as well as they can. But we have ranges of steel. You can get a steel tool that is as good as a Japanese offering (if not more so) but at the same time you can also get a steel tool that is well...Dollar Store crap that'll break if you look at it wrong. While their best may not be better than our best, their worst is often far better quality than our worst. Their lower end products are often our medium grade tools and blades.
Q:I want to make a stainless steel chess set and need help...?
I'll buy one. You'll have to machine it from blocks... You could invest in a milling machine - they are like drill presses and lathes all together and more... If you hook it up to your computer, you can do a CNC milling, where you can get really creative and finely detailed. Stainless is heavy and hard, so it'll go through your bits, and you should use the super duty bits as well. I have always wanted an SS chess set, I made a board out of leather. It's really super awesome, just need your pieces now. Or make mine from Plutonium, or Tungsten Carbide.
Q:Where can I get a steel taper kit?
www.okorder.com
Q:surgical steel or titanium industrial barbells?
316L steel is the most basic metal used in body jewelry. It is the basic requirement of metal to be used in initial piercings and for healing. There are better grades but usually they cost more as well. For most people this grade of steel works just fine. Titanium is usually preferred over steel because it contains no nickel and it weighs almost 50% less than steel. Titanium can come in plain polish which looks just like steel AND it can come in a variety of colors (but NOT red or black). Titanium is super for people with sensitive skin to steel. It does cost a little more but is well worth it.
Q:Question about STEEL?
stress fractures, corrosion and heat can lead to failure. I worked the high steel for a few years when i was younger as an iron worker. Everything has to be set and welded or riveted properly. can you be more specific Steel is very flexible, so it makes a good building material. Its usually the concrete that fails first.
Q:Trade in value for (scrap) steel?
Scrap steel is usually traded per ton. Average steel prices fluctuate on a daily basis. General prices for scrap steel are around $100 - $200 per ton. For daily scrap steel prices check the source below
Q:What is the energy used in making steel?
Making steel is very energy intensive. Mining the raw ore requires a lot of machinery that uses fuel or electricity . Transporting the ore requires a lot of fuel. Refining not only uses a lot of electricity but coal is added to change the iron ore into steel.
