The EMP has the capacity to damage electrical equipment regardless of the source powering the electrical equipment, especially now that power generation devices depend heavily on sensitive microelectronics.

Check the MSDS sheet for safe transport. Is a seal broken before use? Do the containers get returned after use or are they discarded (how?). Your local power company must have info because they use this stuff at switching stations.
Q:How come water shorts things out?
Water is actually a pretty good insulator. The water molecules themselves don't conduct electricity very well at all. Water is conductive when there are substances dissolved in the water which dissociate into ions. It's the ions which actually do the conducting. If you placed pure water on electrical equipment, you would get wet electronic equipment, with little chance for shorting out. It would actually depend on the voltages in the electron equipment. But keep in mind that pure what does contain some ions. First there is the autoionization of water to make H+ and OH-. Secondly pure water has a pH of around 5.5 to 6 due to the absorption of CO2 from the air. This will result in H+ and HCO3- ions. So pure water is not ion-free and will conduct electricity if the voltage is high enough.

I'm with you on this one as I don't see copper wiring as responsible in any way for adding to a perceived imbalance some argue is responsible for global warming. Truth be told, experts are divided in the assessment of warming and many contend global cooling is more of a threat in coming decades. Wire is simply a means of conducting electricity. If we indict (hold criminally responsible) wires, then we must indict electricity itself! That is insanely ridiculous in my opinion. We use machines to offset difficulties and other expenses normally associated with getting things done. Electricity is a tool fueling an offset for human labors in that it makes the machines operate. If there's anything to the global warming issue, it won't be from wires or even machines, it will rest on eliminating the discharge of unwanted contaminants into the Earth's atmosphere with a newly adjusted regard for residual buildup of a growing and eventual threat to ongoing human existence in the future. I think the current debate is a healthy one because it encourages global cooperation and may lead to eventual agreement. Shelly answered pretty well but there's sooooo many fields you can go into, ESPECIALLY if you get an education in Mechanical Engineering too. I'm going into Electrical Engineering at ECE Illinois, possibly the best school ever created. Please follow the directions on your lamp. The 75 Watt bulb will throw out more heat and need more power and your lamp is not rated for that. This could result in a fire. It is not worth the risk. Don't fool around with electricity.
