Q:examples of some common alloy steels, what are their compositions and properties?
Steel is an alloy consisting mostly of iron, with a carbon content between 0.2% and 2.1% by weight, depending on the grade. Carbon is the most common alloying material for iron, but various other alloying elements are used, such as manganese, chromium, vanadium, and tungsten.[1] Carbon and other elements act as a hardening agent, preventing dislocations in the iron atom crystal lattice from sliding past one another. Varying the amount of alloying elements and form of their presence in the steel (solute elements, precipitated phase) controls qualities such as the hardness, ductility, and tensile strength of the resulting steel. Steel with increased carbon content can be made harder and stronger than iron, but is also less ductile. H.
Q:Is Titanium stronger than mild steel?
Yes ,i think so. The two most useful properties of the metal form are corrosion resistance, and the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any metal.[4] In its unalloyed condition, titanium is as strong as some steels, but 45% lighter.[5] There are two allotropic forms[6] and five naturally occurring isotopes of this element; 46Ti through 50Ti, with 48Ti being the most abundant (73.8%).[7] Titanium's properties are chemically and physically similar to zirconium.
Q:is combat steel the same as a carbon steel blade.?
Great answer by JayDub. Amazon isn't exactly a great site for legitimate sword shopping. Look for legitimate retailers specializing in handmade swords.
Q:what is the advantages in using mild steel as raw material in an experimental machining?
*Mild steel is ductile and can be easily machined. Generation of heat is less than that of steel machining. So, the tool can have better life and you can do more machining. Cost factor is of prime importance as other steel are more costly than Mild steel. Mild steel, a grade of steel that does not harden when heated and chilled with cold water, so further machining can be easy. Mild steel is easily available. You will find it in your scrape yard. No need to change the tool repeatedly and no special tools are required for machining. Above is the comparisation between alloy steel,SS and superalloys. Cutting speed and feed does not required special skills.
Q:Bendable steel for crossbow bow.?
So i do know way more about compound bows than I do about crossbows, but i'm going to enterprise an opinion. For my part, i would probably lean toward the compound bow. A part of it's only that i like them higher. However, moreover to that, more often than not when you find yourself hunting you will carry the crossbow loaded, on the grounds that the are typically awkward to load when you have the shot. If you're hunting from a blind or from a tree stand (and might figure out easy methods to load the item whilst you're up there) that's almost always ok. But when you need to tote a crossbow round whilst it's loaded, that may be a bit dicier proposition. Most crossbow safeties are lovely crude making the likelihood of by chance firing one alot bigger than with a rifle. Now, to the plus facet, a crossbow has essentially the entire upside of firing a rifle - best accuracy, same ergonomics, can run a scope on them. Without the downside - no real recoil, no longer too loud and you simply have a lovely excellent trigger on about any of them. Compounds are way more work. Plus it is much tougher to be accurate under stress with a compound than a crossbow. Regarding the protection? Don't particularly find out about that. After I was once doing shooting alot of archery, my 3 - D bow for outdoor stuff was once at ninety two pounds with a fifty five% letoff. My goal bow was once round 60. I had to pretty on the whole take care of string stretch, and tuning with the three - D bow. So i'd expect a crossbow to be in that regional. 5 hours to your nearest Bass pro? Good for a crossbow perhaps it's valued at it because no longer too many places raise them. Nonetheless, should you do back to a compound bow it appears rough to feel that would be your nearest archery professional shop. Thinkingblade
Q:how to understand the chemistry of a metal.. especially steel.. from their names...?
For steels with a four number code like 1020, 4140 ect the first two digits are the alloying information. I think you need to memorise those. 10 steels are plain carbon steel with no alloying. 41 steels are chrome-molly. The third and forth digits are the carbon content. 1020 is 0.2% Carbon, 4140 is 0.4% carbon. I don't know if there is a system to stainless steels.
Q:big steel drum grill?
that steel plate there is to try to keep the grease dripping of the food from making the grill flame up and burning the food. most all quality grills have something similar. you can take the plate out but your going to be prone to flame ups.
Q:can you put nylon strings on a steel string acoustic guitar?
As others have said, it is not recommended because the steel-string neck is meant to handle the tension of steel strings, and nylon strings have much less tension. It won't do any immediate damage, especially if you loosen your truss rod a full turn or two to compensate. But if you keep the nylon strings on for too long your neck may twist or warp irreversibly. I don't recommend doing it, but if you want to try it anyway, get nylon strings with ball ends (Martin makes Darco strings with ball ends, and there are also Black Diamond strings with ball ends). Putting nylon strings on a steel-string guitar is not nearly as bad as putting steel strings on a nylon-string guitar -- whatever you do, don't do that!
Q:steel or graphite?
If its for your bf, i would buy steel. Most guys prefer steel because it is more accurate and it think every guy on the pga tour uses steel shafted irons. Steel also usually costs less, which helps. Neither one is better, its just a matter of personal preference.
Q:Are steel toed hiking boots worth buying?
Hi! You can hike in steel toed boots, but I wouldn't. They aren't designed for hiking, no matter what the manufacturers says. They're built to protect your feet from hazards on a job site. I bought my first pair of decent hiking boots for $10/month on layaway at an outfitters. It took forever, of course, but I didn't have the money to buy them right out. Until then, I hiked in a pair of tennis shoes. Sneakers are just fine as hiking gear, though remember that you will have no ankle support, so you need to be more careful on rocky trails. Use a pair you don't mind getting dirty and make sure they have decent ankle support. Also, this is a great time of year to buy boots if you can scrounge the money together. Most outfitters are swapping over to their spring lines and have shoe/boot sales going on. You don't have to use an outfitter, either. Lots of regular shoe or department stores sell boots that will work just fine until you can afford some nice top-line boots.
