Because of this, I'm assuming I can't get that kind of vacuum cleaner: stand up vacuum with the spinning brush. What type and/or brand of vacuum should I get?
- You can have the kind of vacuum cleaner with a spinning brush, which is the kind that works best for cleaning carpets. You just have to look after it and since you know that long hair is a problem then clean it out of the vacuum cleaner once in a while. A canister vacuum that gives you a choice between using the spinning brush or using a floor brush only might be a good choice. However, if you vacuum a carpet with just a floor brush it doesn't work that well and it doesn't matter how powerful the vacuum is. The beating action of that spinning brush is what knocks dirt out of the carpet so it can be vacuumed up. A floor brush probably won't even pick up all the hair and it definitely won't get all the dust out of the carpet. This isn't about how the machine performs. This is about you not giving the machine the maintenance it needs for the conditions it's being used in.

- MMMM.... I've never heard of the Dyson Theory! However, fret not... I work at Kohls dept. store and people that have a Kohls account at certain times of the year can take advantage of our 30%,20% or 15% discount.. It's generally in the form of a scratch-off OR catalouge coupon... It's good on ALL the merch. in the store.. So, right off the bat you would SAVE and we also match price SEARS, BEST BUY etc.. not online... So, if you did your homework and brought in the sales ad etc...You could do pretty well.... ***The last customer that I sold one I gave him 30% and matched price so he saved about $160.... ***You don't have to have the coupon.. Just during the sale event tell them you left it at home or borrow one from another customer... ****Check your local vacuum repair shop and see if they have a refurbished model.. Good luck...
- Q: What are the best reasonably priced HEPA air filters out there? Is it best to get one that attached to a furnace (but then its only running when the heat or AC is on) or a few smaller ones and move them room to room?Also, I understand that it is imprtant to try and vacuum with a HEPA vacuum. Any advice on something out there that is reasonably priced (and reasonably priced filters).For both, I want to get something that is not too cheap (ie something that actually works) but not top of the line (I am not running a hospital.. just want to increase the quality of the air we breathe at home.
- I would go with one attached to your furnace. Most thermostats have a setting that will make the fan run continuously, not just when heat or ac is called for. I think that would be cheaper to buy, run and replace filters for than trying to run several small portable units. We had a Hoover upright with HEPA filter that seemed to work pretty well for a mid-priced vacuum. Bert

- Right they are built like tanks, Powerful and rugged. In fact I have an old kirby vacuum unit, just the motor and blower mounted on a old shop vac that went bad. The Kirby was bought by my grandmother over 50 years ago and its still running.
