FAQ

Is it best to go for a more powerful vacuum cleaner?

The power of a vacuum cleaner’s motor is measured in Watts. The higher the Wattage the better it will clean, as long as the machine is well designed with good air flow and suction power too. However, the higher the wattage, the noisier the machine will be. With upright vacuum cleaners. you don’t need to have so much wattage or suction power as you do with a cylinder cleaner as the dirt has less distance to travel before it reaches the bag or dust container. The type of brushes are more of an important consideration with uprights than the power. You don’t always want to have a vacuum cleaner operating at full power for example, when cleaning upholstery or curtains, so it’s useful to be able to adjust the power level yourself.

Which attachments should I look out for?

Most vacuum cleaners come with three attachments, a crevice tool, upholstery and dusting brushes and a small head which is best for vacuuming stairs. You can also get additional turbo brushes which have their own motor for extra suction which are useful for cleaning deep-pile carpets or a power cleaning head which has electrically powered rotating brushes. A hard-floor or parquet brush is useful for wooden or tiled floors. Some cleaners have extendable tubes which are useful for hard to reach areas like cobwebs in the corners of ceilings.

I have a large house? What should I look out for?

Look for a cleaner with a large cleaning head – this will help cut down the amount of time it takes to vacuum a room. Also get as long a lead as you can get to cut down on the number of times you have to unplug the lead and plug it in again. You may also want to consider getting a model with a large capacity dust collector or bag so that you don’t have to empty it as frequently. If you have a lot of stairs, you may want to get a cylinder model with a long stretchy stair-cleaning hose.

Q:During the post war period and up until around the beginning of the 1960's what are some things in technology or inventions that helped women's domestic roles at home? For example washing machine, vacuum cleaners and electricity?Thank you! :D
Developments in easy-care fabrics could go on your list. Here's a brief list of some man-made fabrics: Acetate. Acrylic. Cupro. Elastane. Metallics. Microfibre. Modacrylics. Nylon. Polyester. PVC. Rayon. Tencel. Triacetate. Vinyl. If you would like some more information about any of these, post a message here.
Q:The spots look like black ink spots. They seem to be powdery because now they are all over my carpet. Is there an effective way to clean my carpet? Can steam vacuums help? Will I have to call professional cleaners to clean them? Any kinda help is appreciated! Thanks
oops could the powdery stuff come from the band on your vac.? If so the band or belt is broken........
Q:Why did God make men with British and Australian accents so good at selling vacuum cleaners on American TV?
I'm still trying to figure out how that gecko keeps having a new accent every six weeks. Sad thing is I'm old enough to remember when it had Kelsey Grammer's accent.
Q:I read somewhere that the company that once manufactured the popular Model XXX canister Electrolux vacuum cleaners (1930s-1950s) is now called Aerus--which makes 'Aerus' or 'Lux' machines. However, I still see Electrolux vacuum cleaners sold in big box stores that look a lot different from the old Electrolux canisters that my Grandmas and aunts used years ago; though the vacuum cleaners on the Aerus website look similar to the old Electrolux ones.

Q:Who vacums when its pitch black???
I think they have lights to help the user see under furniture better or even to see the reflections of dirt on a surface. I know I use the lights on my vacuum to determine whether I really got all the dirt out from under tables chairs.
Q:There are 4 adults and 1 dog in my home. One of the adults tends to quot;shedquite a lot and has ruined every cheap vacuum we have bought with her hair. I would like to get a nice vacuum anyway, and I've found a great deal on Dyson vacuums, so the one I get has to be a Dyson. However, regardless of the deal, I don't want to buy a nice vacuum if the human hair will ruin it. I've narrowed it down to the DC25 All Floor, or the DC25 Animal. Is there a difference between the two? And will human hair ruin either one? Or do you have a suggestion for a different Dyson (I'd like all floor capable and ball technology)? Thank you.
Hi, okorder / Best wishes, Ryan Dyson Customer Service
Q:I have very long hair that sheds a lot. I have had two vacuum cleaners die on me in four years because the roller gets messed up from all the hair that winds around it. Anyone have any ideas of a good, upright, bag vacuum clean that has a roller that's easy to remove so I can clean it after every use?
I love this vacuum. The Sebo is almost $600 but I only paid $300 for the Flexamatic (and it's even more heavy duty..go figure). I've owned her for almost 6 years, run her nearly every day and have never had a problem. I have had to replace the brush once, but it pops out very easily for cleaning and changing. All you have to do is push a button, twist the edge off and it slides right out. And every time I change the filters and bag, it's like having a brand new machine. My vacuum has done all the things that I saw claimed by Dyson. It never loses suction and it can maneuver anywhere.
Q:Which make of vacuum is better for it's money?
Kirby is outrageously priced and is not worth half the cost. Same with Rainbo and Rainbo has been tested by Consumer Reports and recieved a very low rating. Sara has posted two different Ph. numbers now without the area code.
Q:I am looking to buy a vacuum cleaner, but I want a small and light one. However, I saw that it doesn't have a bag in it, and the other one has a bag but it look kinda big. Can someone please advise me any vacuum that is light, less dirty (maybe by using the bag), and cheap?
lots of cheap out there, but not well made. I favor the Miele Star its mid price lightweight, quiet, well made and mine has lasted for the last 10 years!
Q:I'm looking for a small vacuum cleaner but I don't know where to start. what are the best brands?
About a year ago I bought a bagless Bissell at Wal-Mart for $42.00 and I just love it. It's small, light weight, has attachments on board and I don't have to buy bags for it. The canister and filter are easy to clean too. I was surprised I liked it so well because the one I had for 11 years without a problem was a Simplicity and I really liked it. The Bissell I bought is smaller, lighter and now that I've used it for about a year, I think I like it better than my old one that cost me over $200 because its easier on my back.
