FAQ

Is it best to go for a more powerful vacuum cleaner?

The power of a vacuum cleaner’s motor is measured in Watts. The higher the Wattage the better it will clean, as long as the machine is well designed with good air flow and suction power too. However, the higher the wattage, the noisier the machine will be. With upright vacuum cleaners. you don’t need to have so much wattage or suction power as you do with a cylinder cleaner as the dirt has less distance to travel before it reaches the bag or dust container. The type of brushes are more of an important consideration with uprights than the power. You don’t always want to have a vacuum cleaner operating at full power for example, when cleaning upholstery or curtains, so it’s useful to be able to adjust the power level yourself.

Which attachments should I look out for?

Most vacuum cleaners come with three attachments, a crevice tool, upholstery and dusting brushes and a small head which is best for vacuuming stairs. You can also get additional turbo brushes which have their own motor for extra suction which are useful for cleaning deep-pile carpets or a power cleaning head which has electrically powered rotating brushes. A hard-floor or parquet brush is useful for wooden or tiled floors. Some cleaners have extendable tubes which are useful for hard to reach areas like cobwebs in the corners of ceilings.

I have a large house? What should I look out for?

Look for a cleaner with a large cleaning head – this will help cut down the amount of time it takes to vacuum a room. Also get as long a lead as you can get to cut down on the number of times you have to unplug the lead and plug it in again. You may also want to consider getting a model with a large capacity dust collector or bag so that you don’t have to empty it as frequently. If you have a lot of stairs, you may want to get a cylinder model with a long stretchy stair-cleaning hose.

Q:what do you think about lift-Away vacuum cleaners?
The okorder.com/... I believe that Hoover originated the lift off design a few years ago. I've not used this one, but I have seen it kicking around warehouse retailers when was first released. To be honest, I think that the lift off canister design is far more hype than actually useful - regardless of the brand name. The theory of a smaller, portable vacuum is good, no doubt, but having to carry/hold the vacuum in one hand while you operate it with the other kind of defeats the purpose.
Q:What value does Voltage indicate for vacuum suction?
You need to explain this better, it makes no sense as it is. edit: no way to know exactly. Voltage alone tells you nothing. But the power used (in watts) could be a guide, if you have that number, in watts. 1400 mA-hour is a measure of the charge stored in the battery, so that is no help, as you need a time number to convert that to mA, which, with the voltage, can give you power in watts. My experience is that hand held vacuum cleaners are all very feeble.
Q:I have a question about bagless vacuum cleaners....?
I'm not sure on what you mean by carpet cleaner, but I have a bagless and use powder carpet freshner and it doesn't really cause a problem, but I empty it out as soon as I am done. If you are talking about liquid carpet spray you should wait until it's dry and that's with any vacuum.
Q:Cost to get vacuum fixed?
This may sound silly, but it happened to me. Our vacuum brush roller stopped working, too. Turned out that the sliding switch that gave the bare floor/carpet option wasn't fully engaged. If you have a switch like that, check it. Also, if you still have the manual for it you may want to check under the troubleshooting section or look on their website. At any rate, I take my vacuum cleaners to Sears for repairs. It usually runs me $60.00 - $80.00, depending on the problem. You may want to shop around. Ask people in your area who they go to. Sears is more expensive, but they're reputable and stand behind their work. Hope this helps!
Q:What is it with dogs and vacuum cleaners?
It's probably a natural thing. At least she's not like my cat. My cat hates ANYTHING involved with cleaning: vacuum cleaners, brooms, mops... You name it. My cat is strange that way.
Q:Why are vacuum cleaners so expensive ?
The price is demand driven Most people these days don't sweep their floor, most prefer to just walk around with a vacuum cleaner No matter how expensive, people will still buy them
Q:What are everybody's opinions on the Kirby G3/G4/G5/G6/UG/DE/SE/SE II vacuum cleaners/carpet shampooers?
Overpriced junk! There are many shampooers on the market that are better and cheaper!
Q:What were houses like in the 1950's in the USA?
I am a Catholic but will not Call our Blessed Mother Mother of God because it is miss leading. The Catholic Church teaches that Jesus was/is both God and man in one person that can not be separated. The Holy Spirit spoke through Elizabeth and she called Mary, The Mother of my Lord, (who is Jesus, but Mary is not the Mother of God because Mary is a created creature and not divine. To say that mary is the Mother of God implies to most people that Mary is Divine which she is not. However, Mary is not an ordinary Jewish womanas one person answered. Mary was the one female in all of History; picked by God out of all women alive before Mary and all women born after Mary to be the Natural Mother of His Son Jesus. I can not see how anyone would have the audacity to call Mary the Mother of Jesus, Just an ordinary girl. Also, if my right arm could talk it could accurately say that it is body but it could not say that it is the Body; likewise,Jesus is God but He is not The God Only One can say that He is the God and He is spelled in the Hebrew as YHVH Jesus called YHVH, my Father.
Q:How come some dogs are afraid of hoovers?
My younger dog thinks vacuuming is a fantastic game. He's outside, and when the vacuum goes anywhere near the door, you see his head go down, his eyes lock, and he stalks the thing through our door. He barks and leaps and wags his entire behind. Nutter. My older one, on the other hand, couldn't run fast enough. Hates it. Both dogs hate the hose, though. And the younger cannot stand scooters, prams, other dogs, skateboards, strangers, and children. He doesn't attack, except other dogs, he just hides behind me. I think this is partly my fault- I hate everything on that list, except other dogs, so I probably don't help.
Q:Why do dogs hate vacuum cleaners?
Your dog is probably thinking oooh goody a toy play play play play!!!! he/she might also be thinking, Oh no that stupid and loud vacuum cleaner is on again, or What is that thing? Its invading my territory. What if it pees and marks its spot? aah!!!! I would suggest putting your dog outside when you vacuum. It wouldn't hurt your dogs ears as much (because he/she wouldn't hear it) And if your dog does have a territory in your home, and your dog is inside, don't vacuum so close to it unless your dog could really care aless or he/she is outside! I really hope this helped!
