If you're just planning on using it as a cushion, then I think i'd just buy the dog a dog bed that was washableIn my experience, (I've used CareFresh with a rabbit) it was actually pretty dusty, which it isn't supposed to be, and very messyIf I needed an alternative, I think I'd actually shred up newspaper or use low dust cedar bedding (smells nice for dogs, but absolutely don't use cedar for bunnies!) before I'd use CareFreshBut, like I said, I think a bed would serve just as well without all the dust and mess sticking tot he puppy's fur.
