- If this is a grid ceiling with tiles that just push up. Blown was not a good idea. Plus even though this blown insulation is rather light weight - over time it will cause your ceiling tiles to sag. What is happening is your room is so air tight that when you shut the door you are creating enough air pressure that one or more of the ceiling tiles is pushing up just enough to allow some of the insulation to fall out of the ceiling around this tile. Try shutting the door slowly or cracking a window just a bit to ease the air pressure when you close your door.

- Q:I'm putting suspended ceiling in my basement (using Armstrong tiles). Unfortunately, on one of the walls, the level of the ceiling has to be above the top level of the wall framing (it's a long story involving a structural beam, some heating vents and a window), so there are no studs behind the drywall where I need to attach the wall molding. Would molly bolts or something like that be able to support the weight of the suspended ceiling, should I try to cut some wood to fit and block in behind the drywall, or is there something else that I should do?
- A coarse thread drywall screw would work, but then you would have to counter-sink each screw and go back and putty over each screw before you paint your molding or it would look horrible. Rent an air compressor and a finish nailler. It will shoot the finish nails into the metal studs. (just make sure that you use 16 gauge not 18... they would just bend ). It will make the job quick and easy too. It will be well worth the cost of renting if you don't want to buy one.
- Q:each point on the grid. The weight of each 4x4 area is 144# ( square footage is 9# PSF ) which I divide into four seperate areas and come up with a reaction so I know what spring to use at each point. The basic areas are easy to calculate because it's either rectangular or square but some areas are cut up, for example there are areas shaped like an L on the grid with two rectangular sides and I don't know how to get their reaction because there are more than four points. Could someone show me a formula for this?
- Sounds like you will probably need to break up the oddly shaped areas, and consider them as a collection of rectangles. However, my understanding is still a little fuzzy. What's this reaction stuff? I don't have a clear picture of the layout in my head.
- Q:Hi there, we have recently came across a leak in the bathroom that comes from the bathtub and down into the basement into this drop ceiling thing we have. The problem is that with this drop celiing there is all kinds of insulation in it, and the water is getting soaked into that and I believe the leak is inbetween the floor where I can't get at it.Does this mean I have to rip up my floor to fix it? How much would it usually cost to have someone fix this..?Thanks.
- Do not rip up the floor. The leak is below the floor. Work from the basement and remove the drop ceiling where the leak is at. It is probably a loose connection on the tub drain. After you fix the leak you can repair the cut out in the ceiling.
- Q:I would rather not drywall the ceiling to provide future access to wiring and ductwork. What could be used to reduce overall noise? I am most concerned about the master bedroom, which is right above the area being finished, as there will be a home theatre system installed.

- Q:We have a t-bar ceiling (ceiling with removable acoustical tiles) in the kitchenette area. It's awful! It looks like were eating in an office! Are there more attractive removable panels we can buy somewhere? (it has to be removable because it's the only way to access the air conditioning unit). Any suggestions? Thanks!
