Q: 10x7 ft room (70 square ft)I already took up the linoleum which was hard to do and there is some linoleum backing on most of the floor I cant get up that they will removethey will lay something on the floor that will prevent the tile from crackinggluing down the tile and grouting and sealing itI am in the southgrand total $1000.00 labor labor and materials is $15.00 a square ft
Seriously bid is way too high especially if you did some of the work yourself...the paper you lay on the floor is cheap and tile is not that pricey for such a small area..even a master tile layer wont cost that much it can be done in under a day of work by one guy
Q: I moved into new construction 2 yrs ago. Someone did a crappy job at laying floor tiles down and now some of them have come loose. Does the whole floor need to come up and redone?
ceramic tile? Get a grout file and file out the grout from around the tile which is loose. Get a hammer and break up the tile which is loose if it won't come up after the grout is gone. Chisel down the existing thin set to the subfloor material. Apply new thin set, set new tile and re-grout after 24 hours. edit.. after finding out that you do not have another tile to replace it the procedure will be the same except hitting it with a hammer. It may come right up or you may have to gently pry it up. Gently and do not pry against an adjacent tile.
Q: I have a rental that currently has sheet vinyl in the kitchen that is in bad shape. I am considering putting in self adhesive floor tiles over the vinyl. I have installed similar flooring in a bathroom but used inexpensive tiles. It looked good, but the tiles tended to slide. I‘m thinking it was because I used bargain tiles rather than better quality.I just need comments as to longevity and problems you might have encoutered with self adhesive tiles. Also, do you have any particular brand or type you recommend?
We put the vinyl self stick tiles in the basement over an existing floor. The original tile is from the 50's and contains asbestos. The home inspector said it would be best to leave it down and tile over it.....fine as long as you don't try to take it up..that is where the asbestos comes in. Needless to say the floor has been down for 3 years and still looks great. In the kitchen, we put a vinyl tile floor down over the exisitng vinyl. There was a second floor down, but we took it up. They stick great...only problem we had was where the dishwasher and fridge are. Couldn't tile all the way under them and they kept sliding. My husband fixed that problem with Gorilla Glue. They are going no where now!!!! Both floors are from Home Depot. These were the ones I liked best and they were the most inexpensive. Since this is a rental and you don't want to spend a fortune, go with a pretty but inexpensive floor!!!!!The brand name is NEWPORT. I am very happy with these floors!!!!!! Also make sure exisisting floor is clean; get rid of old wax and grease and dirt. You can buy something at Home Depot to clean this. Make sure tiles are at room temp before laying...don't bring in from cold car and stick down. Good Luck!!!!
Q: We currently have carpet throughout our house, but due to having dogs, we hate the carpet. While hardwood or laminate seems the logical choice, tile would hold up much better to their toe nails. My concern is how having tile throughout the entire house (even in the living room, computer room, bedrooms, etc) would look. I know it is done sometimes, but I just can't picture it in my mind. How do you feel about it? Would the tile (it would be very neutral in color) be okay through the entire house or should we go with laminate deal with the scratches when/if they happen?
Well its totally up to you but in my experience tile in every room is cold and not very inviting. Also we made the mistake of ripping up the carpet in our house so we could refinish the hardwoods underneath...bad idea. The floors were ruined and unsalvageable and and we found out our foundation was not suitable for laying laminate or tiles because it was raised in the middle of the house and sloped towards the edges. So seeing as we didn't have the money to lay carpet (we were going to lay the tiles or laminate ourselves) we have had a bare floor for over a year. If you (like us) have dogs that shed. The hair will be a daily nuisance. Between our two dogs and two cats there is hair blowing around the house constantly...which is not good especially when it ends up in the kitchen where your food is. Also we didn't realize how much the dogs preferred the soft carpet but as soon as we got an area rug for under our dining table they sleep there or on their dog pillow all the time and hate being on the hard floors. If you do decide to do tile make sure your floors do not give. My parents found out the hard way. Last year we laid their tile in their kitchen...we told them the floor had some give and that if we went ahead the grout may break out...after re-grouting twice and getting ready to try (hopelessly) again they finally realized that we were right. A few rooms are not as bad as the whole house. Hope this helps. Oh and keep your dogs nails clipped and that will cut down on snagging....if when walking through the house on hard floors and you hear them clicking they need to be trimmed if possible.
Q: The grout in my bathroom is cracking bad and i just had it installed a little over a year ago. I called a different tile guy to look at it and tell me why its cracking. So im trying to figure out who riped me off or whos trying to rip me off. this new tile guy said the grout is cracking because the other tile guy didnt pull the old vinyl up. I remember the other tile guy told me that the vinyl was my moisture barrier so i didnt need anything put on the floor other than the glue ( or whatever you call it) So this new tile guy is saying thats the reason why my grout is cracking because he needed to pull up the old vinyl and the grout would continue to crack until that was done. So that means i need my whole floor re-done with new tile.....so is this new tile guy telling me the truth. Can you install tile over vinyl?
Installing tile over anything that can possibly move around underneath it is a mistake. My bathroom tile grout is breaking up only in one place on the floor - where the joint is on the concrete board backing. It was apparently not fastened down in enough places to keep the two sections of board from moving.
Q: would cover a 12 ft by 15 ft floor if you choose to use 10 in by 12 in tiles?
you need 216 tiles !
Q: When the stick on tiles have come loose you get ready to re-glue them. What exactly do you clean the cement under neath them or do you just scrape it clean?
If i've got been you,i could positioned funds into ceramic tile.that's been my adventure that peel-and stick Vinyl tiles do no longer consistently stay positioned. For a sprint greater in funds you should apply ceramic tile and function a greater advantageous looking bathing room and longer lasting one too. i understand this with the aid of fact i lay tile as my profession, yet once you should use peel-and-stick Vinyl tile i could advise using greater adhesive.
Q: I‘m thinking about having a bathroom tiled. The bathroom is about 6 by 8 and right now the walls have a horrible pink and black alternating ceramic tile that goes up about 4 feet on the wall all the way around. All I want to do is replace this tile with a glass tile. I have no idea what the cost would be for materials and labor so any estimates would be appreciated. This is the only work I need done.
In UK ?10/m2 + cuts for labour only is a fair price and you supply everything for the job!
Q: Tiles 1 open 2 What does it mean ah?
Is the brick symmetrical cut into two, generally on the wall effect is very good
Q: What are the pros and cons for using porcelain tiles or ceramic tiles?
Tile terminology could be complicated. maximum varieties of tiles that are created from clay or a mix of clay and different components, then kiln-fired, are seen to be a factor of the better type observed as “Ceramic Tiles”. those tiles could be chop up into 2 communities, porcelain tiles and non-porcelain tiles. those non-porcelain tiles are often observed as ceramic tiles by ability of themselves, break away porcelain tiles.for further information bypass to the link that's given under
