Q:Are there any female tile setter's?
Becoming a tile setter is not hard at all. I've been a tiler for 7 years and am now 24 years old. The hardest part of the job is carrying countless boxes of tiles up and down stairs. You have to not be afraid to use hand tools such as grinders and undercut saws. Also, be prepared to make a mess of yourself with all the thinset and glue because you will be repositioning tile to fit it right and will get stuff on your hands and continue to wipe on yourself :)
Q:Travertine tile directly to sheetrock in dry area?
Travertine Tile Fireplace
Q:are tiles or reptile carpet better for a reptile tank?
Wrong okorder.com to learn everything you need to know about taking care of your dragon! Best of luck!
Q:My Kitchen floor is covered w/ vinyl sheets and it is wood underneath. can i put tiles on wood instead?
I disagree with the other answer. I have put ceramic tile on several floors that had a wood subfloor and vinyl tile on top. Unless your subfloor is very unstable, ceramic tiles will do fine if correctly installed. Ask at Home Depot for the correct kind of Thinset to put on top of vinyl.
Q:Erosion tiles underground?
These aren't erosion tiles, they are drainage tiles. Do a web search on tile drainage and you'll find out all you need to know about the subject. BTW, tiles and tile lines are just underground pipes with holes in them, used to lower shallow water tables. It wasn't clear to me that you understood this, so sorry if I'm pointing out the obvious.
Q:How to drill a large hole in ceramic tile?
Tile Hole Saw
Q:why my tiles don't stick to the floor?
First off, PVA glue is a BIG NO NO! it is a craft glue and should never be used for installing any kind of tile unless its in a doll house! The glue will not stick to the tiles and will come up soon after you walk on them!!! Stick your finger in that glue and wait for it to dry, You will be able to peel it off and almost have the same shape of your finger! Pretty cool but not good for tile installation! What kind of tiles are they? Ceramic or stone? You should be using thinset to install the tile! VCT tile? you should be using VCT contact cement/glue! Remove the tiles, Peel any Glue off the tile and floor (should be very easy to do) and use the proper adhesive for the tile you have!
Q:Do vinyl tiles shift when installed in a bathroom due to moisture?
It depends on the surface you put them on and the quality of the tiles. In most cases, with cheap peel and stick tiles that adhere to the surface below, they will tend to shrink, curl up at the endges and peel back after a while. It's not so much moisture as temperature changes and poor durability of the thin vinyl and poor adhesive. I'd recommend you use the Home Depot Allure line of peel and stick floating vinyl floor tile that is made by Trafficmaster. I just did a friend's bathroom with that product last weekend and was very impressed. The tiles stick to each other instead of the floor surface beneath so you can put them down over any solid surface and moisture will not effect them. They have a 25 year warranty also. At about $1.79 per square foot it is a pretty good deal and installation is a snap. We covered her entire 6' by 8' bathroom floor in less than 2 hours, including all the cuts around the toilet base and doorway. All you need to install it is a metal framing square or tee square, a sturdy pair of scissors, a measuring tape and a utility knife. Cool product. They make versions that look like tile and others that look and feel like real wood. We used the wood and it looks great. I've also used the Trafficmaster direct adhering commercial grade peel-and-stick tiles in areas that had moisture (an entryway and a powder room) with no problem but I made sure I had good birch plywood underlayment and I sealed it before laying the tile and also ran a bead of silicone caulk around the edges.
Q:How do I remove ceramic tile?
in case you're only worried approximately eliminating the tiles, and don't care in the event that they are broken in the process the eliminating, then chisel and hammer could artwork. besides the undeniable fact that! in case you're attempting to maintain those previous tiles in tact, that's a plenty tougher technique. Secondly, you stated the partitions have been plaster (and lathe in the back of that?) as quickly as those partitions are compromised, that's a great form of artwork to re-plaster. different concepts: a million. call a enterprise who resurfaces previous tiles with yet another colored ceramic coating, 2) shrink out those sections of partitions and set up different ingredients, like granite, abbatibi (sp?) , fiberglass sections, or 3) pull down the previous partitions, post new greenboard and re-tile with the tiles of your selection. in case you % an spectacular consequence, i could flow with the 0.33 selection, besides the undeniable fact that that's a great form of artwork. some weeks in case you're working area time and definitely know what you're doing. If it is not probably important to have it final for say, better than 7 years, i could merely have a enterprise re-coat the tile. it will take them a million-4 days and could fee equivalent to or under the different concepts. sturdy success! It' an ambitious undertaking.
Q:Laying down Ceramic Tiles?
After installing thousands of sq. ft. of tile I'll answer YES to the specific Q,,, however I'd never put my name on the job. Given that the customer is always right,,, even when they aren't,,, I'd refuse to take the job under those conditions. The vinyl is an easy tear out really,,, and well worth the time and energy. The substrate may be wood, allowing that vinyl,,,especially self stick,,, wouldn't,,, on concrete. Vinyl by its nature isn't porous/absorbent, and will not strictly accept adherance by thin set, used to install ceramic tile. Certainly another way to achieve what you want is add substrate over the existing floor,,, using concrete backer board, then tiling over that. No offense but you don't state any experience of skill in the area you question. It's not Rocket Science, but any decent, long lasting job takes some knowledge and skill. Rev. Steven
