- Q:What about sources for straight forward solar powered products? Excluding toys, garden frogs and outdoorpath lights I have found few useful items for the home. What I have found are solar panels for under $00 each, inverters, rechargeable indoor lights and a few camping/RV products that are interesting. It seems to me that these could help me start to wean the family off the power company. I can't afford to go cold turkey and cover my roof with solar panels and I don't think the HOA would allow me to even if I could. Is anyone using solar on a small scale?
- I have an active solar heater on my roof. During the winter it comes in handy and heats the house, though we still need to use a gas heater to get the temperature up to a comfortable level.
- Q:Can solar panels be installed on a barn or agricultural building?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a barn or agricultural building. In fact, barns and agricultural buildings are often ideal locations for solar panel installation due to their large, open rooftops and proximity to open spaces. Installing solar panels on barns can help farmers and agricultural businesses reduce their electricity costs, generate clean energy, and contribute to a more sustainable farming practice.
- Q:what do solar panels do?
- The cost of electricity is increasing at a rate of 5 to 0 percent every year with no end in sight. A solar panel system captures the (free!) sun and turns it into usable electricity for your home.
- Q:Interested to know if it is possible to install Solar Panels to run my Jacuzzi?Don't want to do the whole house just the jacuzzi anybody have any ideas Thanks
- You can do this by isolating the jacuzzi, you will need a solar array adequate for the power draw of the jacuzzi, a charge controller, battery bank, off-grid inverter and switch gear. This is the expensive way to go--especially if you are planning to heat the water with the solar. A better option would be to heat the jacuzzi with solar thermal panels. It is plumbing instead of electrical, but the cost would be much less. If you still want to do PV (electric) solar, think about putting a non-isolated grid-tie solar array on your home. They are much cheaper, and if you think about it, it really does not matter if you use the solar electricity to run a light, a fridge, a TV, or a Jacuzzi, that amount of power is subtracted from your overall house power bill. Just size the array for the power output of the jacuzzi, and let the power meter do the rest. Your overall result will be the same and the system will be half the price, or less.
- Q:i am very new to the solar world and i need help with some stuff to understand what i need to do.what AH battery should i use? i am planning on getting a 2V deep cycle gel based battery but i want to get the most power for my system so should i use something like a few 00AH in a battery bank system or a bunch or 50 or so amp hour batteries in a bank. also what kind of power am i looking at for the best battery system. in other words what kind of basic appliances like lighting, laptop, space heaters etc can can i run on the selected battery system and for how long? any help would be highly appreciated.
- This site has some good info and links to more info about renewable and alternative energy. Hope it helps you. Good luck.
- Q:So I want to power one of my car fans with some solar panels. I ordered quite a few and I want to power one of my fans under the hood. I've already disconnected the fan and pulled it out of the car to test it later. What all do I need besides the panels, fan, and wiring to make this work. This fan will not be tied to any other system. Currently, the fan is not operated by the car or any system of the car due to a modification made to the automobile allowing me to disconnect it from use months ago.Using the fan powered from the solar panels would help with the modification to increase air flow and speed into the area.Could someone please help me by telling me what else I need to make the fan operational from here?
- The solar panel doesn't output enough power to run the fan directly, your best bet would be to just hook the fan back up to the battery, and then rig the solar panels up to help charge the battery and remove some of the load from the alternator. If you're trying to reduce your emissions/increase fuel economy then you'd be better of setting up a switch to disconnect your alternator when its not necessary to have it on. The alternator runs off a belt from the engine which requires some of the power output from the engine. Having this connected all the time increases the amount of gas used (marginally) but you'd be saving more gas doing that and using the solar panels to keep the battery topped up.
- Q:I'm re-doing my roof. Is it workable? Can I get a government grant or something to put solar panels on my roof?I know they did something like that for windows.
- I don't think you can get a government grant? At least not just yet... But, you can get a nice Tax break for having installed solar panels on your home or for some their backyard works well. But, again you must be aware that having professionals install these panels can be quite costly. If you don't mind getting your hands a little dirty, tackling this project on your own isn't as hard as you might think! And you will be amazed at how much money you can save from the start. And if you get the family involved all the better! Building affordable solar panels for your home, is no pipe dream...But, you must be willing to do the work yourself! That's usually where most people fall short.
- Q:What do I need to use this as a battery charger
- I hope this will help you choose your charge controller / battery charger more effectively. Good luck!
- Q:How many solar panels do you need on your house to power your heater in winter?
- Your house, and probably your yard wouldn't be big enough to hold them. I did this exercise once (not doing it again) for someone who wanted to replace his 6hp outboard motor with a solar powered one. The calculations ended up that he would need something like .5 acres of solar panels to get that much energy. Not happening. That said, an passive solar home, can get a significant amount of warmth from the sun directly. But it doesn't work very well at night, when it's coldest. (wonder why that is... probably a climate scientist could help us with that? -- oh, wait. They say warming doesn't have anything to do with the sun.) Edit. I didn't use theoretical stuff to come up with my numbers, I used the claims of actual off-the-shelf solar panels sold by West Marine, calculated the power, and did the math based on existing panels.
- Q:Can solar panels work during cloudy or rainy days?
- Yes, solar panels can still generate electricity during cloudy or rainy days, although their efficiency may be reduced. While direct sunlight is optimal for maximum power output, solar panels can still capture diffuse sunlight and convert it into usable energy.
