- I had the same problem, what actually happens is when your hamster gets board at night, he /she will use the wheel but he will get bored of it. If your worried about the fitness of the hamster, take him out and let him run across your hand like a human treadmill :) also if the haster get to big for his wheel you need a bigger one Hope this helps

- don't force your hamster! If it doesn't want to go on it, leave it alone. They usually exercise at night. and maybe when your asleep your hamster is on the wheel but you just don't know it. And if your hamste sits on the wheel automaticlly and does nothing, it's probably exhausted. And your hamster might be old if it doesn't want to move.

- Its just a special lug nut that you put on all 4 wheels. 1 on each wheel. they use a special key to unscrew and screw it in. like the previous answer, they serve the purpose, but someone can easily have the special key to unscrew it. definitely not 100% fool proof.
