Q:When I moved into my house the ceiling was cracked from the ceiling fan out to the walls in two directions. I don't want to put new wall board up and repairing the crack is not possible according to my Husband. What are some ways to cover the ceiling up?
It's possible the crack is caused by someone/something in the attic, if that is above. If so, don't walk up there and crack should not occur again. If not an attic above, but another floor instead, it's possible that something/somebody heavy caused the crack. Lastly, it could be the floor joists/ceiling joists are insufficient to support the weight on them, including the cracked sheetrock. If this is true, you have a structural problem that will probably continue to cause overhead sheetrock cracks. However, repairing the present cracks is not that difficult. Best idea is to use a utility knife/box cutter to dig a shallow V shaped groove along the crack, then use joint compound and paper tape as with any sheetrock finish work. Another less messy option is to use fiberglass self-sticking mesh tape, sold for sheetrock finishing, and joint compound over that. Some practive to feather all edges is needed or the results could be as bad or worse than your cracks. If you just can't do any of the above, a thin bead of silicone caulk pressed into and along the crack, can mask the worst of the crack!
Q:My studio apartment doesn't have an attic. A lot of the installation videos and articles I read online are about installing foil insulation a couple inches below the roof and above the room's ceiling. Does it matter if I install it under the ceiling (that is, the foil barrier is visible to me when inside the apartment)?Aesthetics isn't an issue. I don't mind seeing the foil. I just want to know if I can still achieve the same results whether or not I install above the ceiling. Thanks!
If I were you I would go with 4X8 half inch foam insulation sheets from home depot. 12 bucks each and a snap to put up. You might even want to double them.
Q:The kitchen of the flue was decorated to open a great! How to seal this mouth? What materials?
With glass fiber plus cement mortar to seal.
Q:How to install an extruded board for heat insulation?
1, grass-roots treatment: thoroughly clean up the basement wall surface floating ash, oil, release agent, hollowing and weathering materials such as the impact of bonding strength of the material. 2, the structure of the new building wall, the application of 2 meters by foot inspection, the maximum deviation of the maximum deviation of not more than 4 mm ? 3, in order to increase the extruded board and the base layer and the surface layer of the adhesive force, should be in the extruded plate surface brush surface agent or extruded plate surface hair. 4, the modulation of professional bonding gypsum or polymer, so that it has a certain viscosity to maintain just stick on the wall of the extruded plate does not slide. Add water each time less, and should be used within 1 hour. 5, smear special adhesive gypsum mortar or polymer mortar: with a trowel in the middle of each extruded plate and wiping the middle of 50 mm10 mm professional adhesive, and then in the extruded sub-grid area wiping diameter of 100 (80) mm thickness of 10 mm gray cake.
Q:i am living in a ground storey house and there's no construction on top of my house. therefore it's very hot in summer and winter is normal.please help me to elaborate any procedure or material for cooling my top (ceiling) . i would be very grateful. thanks and regards.
If you have a one story house, you must have an attic. Fiberglass insulation is the best way to help with the heat transfer from the roof to the inside of the house thru the attic. R-30 is the best but R-19 fiberglass batts will work too, depending on your budget and the space above the ceiling in the attic.R-30 insulation is 9 or 10 inches thick and is 15' OR 23 ' wide, R- 19 is 6 thick. Lay the batts of insulation above the wood framing in the attic , leave no spaces between the batts, and do not compress the batts, they need to be full thickness to work the best they can. If no attic space is there, then you need Styrofoam insulation under the roofing, on top of the roof deck, which is a whole different matter.
Q:I have removed textured wall paper from ceiling, the plasterboard is in very good nick, but has gaps between sheets?I really dont want to have to get it all re-skimmed.would the correct approach be to plasterboard joint tape, then lining paper over over it, before painting?Id appreciate a how to.....
best bet is to redo it all the right way...try the fiberglass joint tape it self sticks and is ez to work with...
