What type of insulation on the walls? We will be drywalling them. Once again, I was recommended fiberglass but to put a plastic barrier between the wall and insulation. - For the walls use fiberglass kraft faced(paper on one side) and no plastic or unfaced insulation with plastic. R-11 or R-13 for 2x4 walls. For the ceiling, I wouldn't bother with it. Instead add a radiator to the basement area and add a new pump and thermostat to create a new zone. Otherwise the basement would only be heated when some other area of the house needs more heat, this usually makes the basement too cold or too hot.
- Q:There are a lot of wires and tubing between the joists and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to work the insulation around them or just lay the stuff over it. Seems like if there was a problem with the water or electricity, finding the wires and such would become a problem with them tucked under the insulation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
- i wouldnt insulate we have a finished basement and drop tile cealing and what ever the temp is up stairs thats what the basement will be (winter time). if you basement walls that are not inaulated thats what needs to get done.
- Q:Hello, our house has a big crack in the ceiling running from on wall to the other ( only about 3 feet cause its a entrance way) and I was wondering if there is anyway to fix it properly? We will be selling the home in a year and don't want it to scare anyone off BUT also don't want to just paint over it ( may get sued for concealing a problem). Any ideas or thoughts? Are we screwed and may have to leave it and the house won't sell as fast?:(
