FAQ

A wire has a resistance of 21.0 ohms. It is melted down, and from the same volume of metal a new wire is made that is three times longer than the original wire. What is the resistance of the new wire?
The resistance of the new wire is (in terms of its length, area resistivity); R2 = pL2/A2 And the resistance of the original wire is; R1 = pL1/A1 The ratio is;(resistivity will cancel because its the same for both situations) R2/R1 = L2A1/L1A2 given L2 = 3L1 R2/R1 = 3A1/A2 To find the new cross-sectional area ,require the volumes to be equal; L2A2 = L1A1 3L1A2 = L1A1 A2 = (1/3)A1 Sub this into the R2/R1 equation to get; R2/R1 = 9 R2 = 9R1 = (9)(21) = 189 ohms
who knows the use of wire mesh? Actually where does the wire mesh be used?
and the size of the wire makes a difference too.you can patch walls with it as well , sift dirt or make a paper machea ball
What Spark Plugs and Wires would optimize my MPG? 2000 Bonneville SSEI
any plugs + wires will help the mpg a bit if the plugs are gapped correctly before installation
Broken dryer, 4 bladed wire, Old dryer available to me, has a 3 wire cord, can I swap the cords?
Yes, download the owners manual, it will tell you how to the unground neutral, and use 4 wire cord, but generally you will just need to disconnect a jumper that connects the center terminal to ground, then connect the ground wire to the frame. Post the model number if you need help finding it. I am a little confused, it seems your first and second question are opposite, but doesn't matter, all dryers in North America can work with either type. The code says you have to use the 4 wire receptacle unless you only have three wires in the junction box. NEC 250.140 Frames of Ranges and Clothes Dryers Frames of electric ranges... shall be connected to the equipment grounding conductor... Exception: for existing branch-circuit installation only where an equipment grounding conductor is not present in the outlet or junction box, the frames of electric ranges...clothes dryers, and outlet or junction boxes that are part of the circuit for these appliances shall be permitted to be connected to the grounded circuit conductor... The Equipment grounding conductor is the green wire. The grounded circuit conductor is the white/neutral wire.
I was looking at the wiring of my current thermostat and I want to know why it's wired the way it is...The yellow wire was wrapped around the white terminal and the yellow terminal. And the white wire was wrapped the around the Orange terminal. The red and green wires were each wrapped around their respective terminals. And the blue wire wasn't connected to anything. Why would the electrician have wrapped the yellow wire around 2 terminals? Is that normal? Also, I tried installing a new thermostat but the heating is not working. The fan works but it just blows room temperature air. The new thermostat only had 4 terminals for R, Y, W, G. I connected the wires I had to their respective terminals. However, I think it may not be working because I have a probably have a heat pump. Any Ideas why else it might not be working? Thanks a lot!
You should take sketches of the thermostats and wires to your favorite plumbing heating store, and talk to a service person, if you feel competent enough to do the proper connections yourself. Also, include details of the thermostat wiring connections to your heating unit. Otherwise, get such a person to come over to your house to do the work.
When was the hot-wire anemometer invented? and who was it?
Sir Charles Wheatstone in 1843 modern anemometer use ultrasound hot wire sensors are used as mass air flow but did not find original usage! Guru
what is the best wire to use for a chainmail
Costume or 'Historically Correct'? You can buy soft iron or aluminum wire in any gauge you can 'knit'. ( 14 is about right for Al., 16 for iron.)
When making pc boards with microcontrollers, oscillators, etc.. What is the right kind of wiring to use? Specifically:What material (e.g. copper)? What thickness? What brand?Where to buy? What's the difference between the stiff wire and easily bendable wire? Thanks.
I don't mean to piggyback on his question but I'm also doing a project. Making a solar phone charger... My first project really but I have one solar panel 5V max output, but when soldered only gives out 2.8... Sending it to a mini buck booster but that needs at least 2.6 to work. I am just using simple stranded speaker wire, and admittedly the soldering skill needs work. But what kind of wire would I use
