Q:Currently the stairs are carpeted. I have heard that if this is not done properly the tiles will crack. How do I ensure that the stairs are level and stable enough for the tiles? Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
I am with Ronk on this one, leave tiling the stairs well alone.
Q:your supposed to?Would it damage the tiles?
Ceramic tile has a glaze on it which keeps the vinegar from harming the tile, however--you might have to reseal your grout if you use to much vinegar over a period of time. Vinegar can work on the grout like an acid if it isn't diluted properly. One teaspoon of vinegar to one quart of water is best.
Q:Our kitchen isn‘t that big and I hate the tile. My fiance says it‘s a huge big deal to remove the tile but not so hard to put new tile in.About how much does it run to remove tile, say from the average size kitchen.... it‘s about 7 foot by 18 feet.
It should only cost about as much a sledge hammer costs. And you don't even need that big of one. Other than that just go in and hit it with the sledge and it will come up.
Q:The ceramic tile in my kitchen is cracked at a lot of different spots. My guess is the previous owner didn‘t put a thick enough plywood before installing the ceramic tiles. I want to replace them, but I just realized that right now my floor is perfectly leveled with the hallway and living room and adding more plywood would screw it all up. What options do I have to get around this issue?
Tear it up and maybe you can level it without adding more plywood if not replace the plywood too. Or you can tear it up and put some thin plywood down and put a threshold in the doorway that will cover up the height difference.
Q:Can you give me your opinion? White beveled subway tiles with dark gray marble floors, or mahogany brown large rectangular floors with matching size walls in beige tile? I was thinking of adding a glass border for accent, the tile store lady told me to put it up high, one right below the last cut of tiles as opposed to between the faucet and mirror. Do I still stick with the white toilets and bathtub? PLEASE help! Thanks
I would suggest going with the beveled white subway tiles. As the others have noted, these tiles will open up the room more so than the darker beige tile. An array of accent colors could be used and changed as you update your style yet keeping the same appliances. A high border will also open up the room and give the illusion of more space. Q:I am installing some mesh mounted 12x12 glass tiles sheets on one wall of my kitchen (behind the stove). I was reading online how to do it and I have a question. Some sites say to put the bottom tiles flush with the counter top and some sites say to use 1/8 spacers between the countertop and the bottom of the tiles and fill in with grout colored cauk. Which should I do? Thanks
Definitely use the spacers! It will give it a much more professional look. You'll be glad you did
Q:I have painstakingly cleaned and restored victorian age tiles in hall (using natural and eco products). Wondering what to seal with? Found few eco tile sealants but wondered if anyone used any without distorting the colour? Thanks :)
Most tile have a glazed finish so unless it dose not have it,it will be difficult to seal. You don`t mention wheat her its wall or floor tiles,if it wall tiles you might get away with it.If it floor tiles I think it will cause a problem by walk over it.
Q:I believe the tiles were made in Mexico. They are light beige in color. They were installed in the master bathroom which has a shower stall, no bathtub.
I tile every day of my life, and while not a major fan of sealers, I get it that many are, in the belief that they retard dirty and mold, etc. It will be a life long, occasional task however. It makes little difference where the tile was produced, what matters in your case is whether or not the tiles are glazed in the firing process. One would hope any contractor holding any level of intelligence would not install unglazed tile in a bath or kitchen. IF they are glazed, sealing is a useless procedure. There is no need to seal tile that has been glaze fired, essentially turning the surface into glass, NON porous. Certainly no matter what you seal, anywhere, the surface should be as clean as possible. Steven Wolf Just my two sense
Q:Want to put ceramic tile floor down in bathroom. It has a lanolium floor now. What is the best way to prep, in order to have a good tile job.
if you have wood sub floor, and is at least one and half inch thick, i would leave lanolium down buy quarter inch ply wood. screw it to floor and get bucket of mastik and install ceramic tile....I've tried it and works great has been down for 5 years and no problems yet. it was in bathroom and kitchen
Q:1. Why floor tiles can pop up?2. What we can do to avoid that?
Hi ...we have a problem with 12x12 tile in the living room area that has popped across the room in a line from one wall to the other...the building is 16 years old and the tile has been down that long.....why all of a sudden the tile would pop ...there they are at there is no sun light or temp change since we are in Florida.....WHAT TO DO???
