- Q:My family has had 2 microfiber couches for close to 2 years and they are light tan color, so with pets and kids, they are starting to look pretty shabby. I have tried Resolve Multi-Fabric and used that to wash the cushions, and it worked at first, until someone spilled a drink on the couch and I tried to get it out. Now it doesn't appear to be coming out too well and there are what appears to be streaks from the cloth I used (even though it was a white one).Does anyone have any ideas on how to clean the sofa cushions so that they will look cleaner without streaks? Or do I have to get it professionally cleaned?

- Q:I need an overview about leather furniture cleaning products and leather care tips. I'm also keen to restore some of the old leather sofas that have been lying around the house for years. I'm sure something can be done about them.
- First up (for me) how much I spend on cleaning a leather corner sofa depends on its cost and quality of leather used. E.g., if it's a high-priced sofa, I use a manufacturer-recommended leather cleaning protection kit so that the durability and shine of the leather is maintained. Stains are best removed as soon as you get them on the sofa (before dust, grime or oil make a mess of it). When you're dealing with liquid spills, use a dry cloth to soak up the liquid first. Then dab the stain and use a moist cloth (dipped in warm water) to rub it off the sofa. Any stains that still remain can be removed with a neutral detergent or saddle soap meant for leather. Avoid using too much water as it dries the leather and leaves cracks that are an eyesore. Never place your leather corner sofa in direct sunlight as it can ruin the leather and also cause cracks. If you need to use ammonia + water to get rid of bad leather smell, make sure you leave the sofa to dry in a well-ventilated area (never in heat or direct sunlight). Once dry, use a leather conditioner to give it a brand new look.
- Q:I was just removing some nail polish off my nails when I was sitting on the sofa (in the dark), and I decided that I needed to get a new cotton pad and put some nail polish remover (NPR from now on). Well, the nozzle part of the NPR bottle (the part that stops a whole load of it coming out) came off and got stuck in the lid and I didn't notice. Well, I went to pour it onto the cotton pad, and a WHOLE LOAD of it came out onto the sofa. Now there's a really strong smell coming from it, and my mum is practically crying (I don't know why, shes a bloody drama queen and the smell bothers her) and she's yelling at me. We can't afford to replace the sofa, so can anyone please please please tell me how to get rid of the smell (quickly)????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
- You don't need to replace the sofa. In fact, you do not need to do anything at all. The smell will dissipate over time. I don't recommend adding soaps or any cleaning solutions. Just let nature take its course. If the sofa's colors are not affected, just let the sofa sit. The smell will dissipate. Hope this helps. -
- Q:My 2 year old got his hands on a ball point pen and drew all over my microfiber sofa and ottoman. Was just wondering if there was anything I could use to get it out?
- If detergent doesn't work, try hair spray. I get pen on my shirts often, and hair spray has always worked. I think the spray separates the ink and makes it easier to wash out. I would suggest using a wet towel on the sofa after letting the hair spray sit for 5 minutes

- He's doing this because he thinks he's the pack leader and that he's in control of you. That's why he's on you. If you want him to stop this, don't be frustrated or annoyed because it won't help. Go on your sofa and if he tries to go up, say no and look at him until he gives up and goes back onto the floor. Don't say anything to him and leave him alone afterwards.

- That depends on the size, quality, upholstery, etc... A good quality American made carved wood sofa can run as high as $15,000. A mid-priced one could run between $2500-$4000 The cheapest molded resin sofa China would probably start in the $800 range. I'm a proponent of real wood, domestic construction, and 8-way hand-tied frames. They will cost more, but you will never replace them.
- Q:what are important factors when purchasing a sleeper sofa?
- Working out what you want to use the sleeper sofa for most of the time will be important: do you need it mostly as a bed, or as a sofa? If you're expecting it to be used mostly as a bed, then it's worth looking at the quality of the mattress, how easy it is to fold up and back again, and the general quality of the sleeper sofa. If you're expecting it to be used mostly as a sofa, perhaps getting a sofa that's large enough for guests to sleep on (without having to fold it out) would be a better idea. You could also put the s sleeper sofa mattress on the floor and have your guests sleep just on the mattress: this avoids the problem of having the bars pushing into your guest's back.
