- Hi, If you are laying laminate over a concrete floor you should lay down a damp proof membrane (DPM) first to protect the laminate from moisture. If your floor is new the concrete has to have cured or you will have problems. Hope this helps.

- Ok first of all.Even if you DO go over the old floor with new.Its only going to raise the floor a max of 1 1/2 Still a big pain in the butt bc you're right about resizing doors. How about this approach instead.Find out whats making those parts of the floor weak.My guess is that you need some more bracing underneath.If you do determine that is the wood then just cut out the weak parts and replace only those sections.

- From a Ret. flooring installer If you want to install another floor, you dont need to remove it, you can simply go over it, but first lets talk prep work: A) Go to Home Depot, go into flooring section in back and find a large bag of Henry's flooring patch material. B) Take A small bucket and put about 1 cup of water to start with, and pour some patch in it, start mixing, you want the consistency of peanut butter, keep mixing up more but not too much water at first. C) Get a flat trowel, what you want to do is only skim the patch over the floor, no puddles, hold trowel at 90 degree angle slighly when doing this with the patch, after drying, scrape good with clean trowel to remove any humps or bumps You can now install any type floor over that, make sure it is smooth., and all crevices are filled in.

- Hey Pamela, I am a flooring associate from The Home Depot in the Atlanta area, and I sell a good bit of bamboo flooring in my store, so I know its a good choice for your home. Bamboo flooring comes in different forms, in solid or in planks (not laminate) called engineered flooring. The best way to compare flooring to the ones we sell as well as any other flooring company out there is by doing 2 things. The first is to check the samples that you get from your local home center and make sure to get a rating from the store that you got it from. The Home Depot has a hardness scale we use from 1-5. Most bamboo I have seen is a 3 or more. Solid bamboo will always be thicker than engineered, so remember than when are getting your flooring. Also, solid bamboo typically glues or nails down to the subfloor, where engineered bamboo is easier to install since it floats over the subfloor with a underlayment in between like laminate planks. The second is to get the sample and check out the wood's hardness on the Janka hardness scale. Janka is an internationally known way that measures a floors hardness, so if you see the higher the rating how many pounds per square inch it can handle, then the better the floor you can get. While bamboo is a good flooring, there are other floors that are as durable or even more, so consider that as well. Hope this helps you out, aboveaveragejoe
