Q:My water pump is starting to leak. The shops are quoting $250- $300 to replace but I can buy a water pump at the auto parts store and install myself for less than $100 but I don't know what all is involved with this repair or if I should try (my only experience with car repair up to now is recently replacing the alternator). If anyone has done this please let me know what you think. thanks
It's a rear wheel drive car with the water pump mounted on the front of the engine toward the radiator. So if you go to the library any read the chiltons or motors manual procedures on how to replace the water pump, you probably have to remove the radiator fan blade assembly to get at the water pump. Some fan belts will also have to be removed. You can end up doing the job twice if the new water pump gasket doesn't seal properly due to antifreeze leaking out of the engine block while your installing the new gasket and sealer. Park the car with the engine facing up a hill to prevent that. I'd have it done at a shop. It's worth paying a shop unless you really want to get into major repairs.
Q:I have 2000 ford ranger v6 3.0 I replaced the water pump ten months ago and all of a sudden it's running hot it only runs hot when I stop for a second at a red light or stop sign. I changed the radiator today but still is running hot. The top radiato hose going to the thermostat housing is building a lot of pressure and the water is bubbling in the reservoir what could be wrong? And I took the thermostat out last week
You waited too long, over heated the engine, and now have leaking head gaskets. If water is boiling in reservoir, that is DEFINITELY the problem. Take heart, though. Many times, all you need do is replace the head bolts and re-torque them to specifications. This will usualy un-warp the heads and restore good gasket seals on the Ford 3.0 engine. Compression is forcing air into the coolant. It's that simple. Untill your head get resealed, you will contiue to have boiling and overheating. GOOD LUCK!!
Q:do you trust the bran?
Point blank, ask the folks at Auto Zone where this water-pump was produced. If it was re-manufactured off-shore leave it on their shelves. I trust you knew these Duralast water-pumps are re-manufactured. All AC-Delco starters, alternators and water-pumps are re-manufactured in the USA. Every part inside the reused housings are factory brand new with parts made here in the US.
Q:OK i was driving and i noticed the gas pedal wouldn't really work and people were telling me to move so right away i moved to the side of the road and got my car towed home. a couple details are that there was smoke coming out of the hood, don't know what part of the engine though.there was not much water in the water pump. my dad thinks that the problem was it was leaking the water.the car turns on ac works it just shakes when it turn on the motor no condition to drive it obviously but it does take a little time to start the engine. i want to know if anyone knows what may be the problem and about how much it may cost.ohh btw this car model is a 1999 Chrysler Sebring Convertible 2 door.thank you!
did u get a mechanic to do it? or do it your self? in case you had a mechanic do it, ask them to repair it in case you had no problems earlier. must be thermostat, must be you dont have adequate coolant in radiator or perhaps suitable coolant to water ratio. All i understand is you need to bleed out the radiator to eliminate all air after water pump is taken off and placed lower back on, because would reason problems aswell. ok nicely you only as much as date it, so i'm too, your mechanic sounds like a dumb ****, he ought to have bled air out of radiator, the actuality he instructed you is weird and wonderful, ought to have fixed it then and there. that is a vital step of adjusting water pump. If there is air in it, your radiator and water pump wont be rotating the water wonderful. tell him to repair it and say you probably did your analyze and you're actually not paying yet another cent!
Q:55KW how large is the water pump wiring?
The general centrifugal pump is a three-phase squirrel cage asynchronous motor with a power factor of 0.85I=P/U/1.732/COS=55KW/380V/1.732/0.85=98.3A, light load, such as the use of YJV cable, ZR-YJV-0.6/1, 3*35mm2 copper core cable can be, such as heavy load or select VV cable, the cross-sectional area should be extended to 3*50mm2
Q:Hey all--I just paid $900 at the Volkswagen dealership to get my timing belt, water pump, rollers, and air pump replaced. Is that a good deal? Also, how does the timing belt replacement relate to performance? I noticed my car was a little faster than before (maybe it's because I was driving another car for 2 days).
Here's my answer, not sure it is right, but right for me. After a certain time, I replace my timing belt. I may not always replace my water pump with my timing belt. Why, the water pump may go for another 100, 000 miles like it did in my last car. I don't see anything you did or replaced that relates to performance. I change things because the maintenance schedule calls for them to be changed. When I pull them off, sometimes they are good and sometimes not so good.
Q:coolant coming out around a tube that supplies the heater core (told its the water pump just don't see how)
That tube is part of the water pump housing. Essentially the water pump. You may be able to get the leak fixed but if it's that old just go ahead and replace the pump.
Q:I am trying to evaluate my well water pump and water system to see if the pump is cycling on/off too frequently. What is the optimal quot;ontime? What is the optimal quot;offtime? I have heard the term quot;short cyclingquot;, but no times were attached. I have heard that too frequent cycling can cause a problem, but, again, no times were attached. How can one tell when the system is working within the optimal/normal range, so that no harm is being caused to the system? Thanks.
There is no optimum time. This is dependent on several factors. Assuming you are pumping into a small tank which is pressurized by the inflow of water from the pump (and the pressure also controls the pump) these reasons can be excessive use of water, the air space at the top of your tank has been absorbed into the water over a period of time and the volume of compressed air too small causing the pressure to drop too fast, or you could have leak in your water piping. If there is not enough air space in your tank, the pump will cycle extremely fast. If you don't have a tank, then the above information is incorrect. Good luck.
Q:The dealership wants nearly $500. to replace the water pump in our 2002 Tahoe (5.3) it's leaking from the weep hole. I'm somewhat mechanically declined, what precautions will I need to know and any special tools to do the job myself? I've done a few water pumps back in the 1980's that didn't leak Thank you
You just need basic tools and a little knowledge. Since you've changed them before, you should have no problem. The Tahoe water pump hasn't changed that much. It's still on the front of the engine.
Q:PROline Dishwasher has Broken down, after a detailed Examination of the appliance we have managed to conclude it is the Water Pump, I'm looking to find a new one to repair it myself but would like to know if any make one would fit, as Finding a PROline Water Pump has proven Great Difficulty, Any Knowledge of the matter would be greatly appreciated, Thank you
Unless you are sure that the problem is the water pump, you might want to check the hose to make sure it isn't clogged up and not allowing the water to drain out correctly. If you do need to change the pump, you will most likely have to replace it with the same pump. If you haven't done so, try going on line and enter your dishwasher make, model, and enter water pump and see what you can come up with. If your washer is an older model, it is possible it is no longer being made and it might be difficult to find parts for it. You might also try calling around in your local area to some appliance stores and ask them about finding the part or where you might find the part. You could also contact a repair service and just ask them if they can find the part for you if you are going to fix it yourself. If the pumps are still being made, any appliance repair service should be able to get you the part. If you can find a store that sells that brand of washer, they to should be able to get the pump for you to.
