No quartz crystal of any size has a perfect internal structure, as a result the annealing at high temperature creates areas of high stress around the minute imperfections. These stress areas contain pent up energy which can, and often is, released by the slightest knock resulting in fractures. Due to the relative softness of the coatings all the coated gems (Aqua Aura quartz, mystic quartz/topaz etc.) suffer from another serious problem in that they are highly susceptible to scratching and abrasive wear making them absolutely unsuitable for ring stones and even in other types of settings will not have a an even reasonable life span. The main one being that you need to physically de-solder the quartz crystal in order to check it on the machine. You can't check it inside the watch or attached to the module. Dunno why the manufacturer of this tool came up with that idea HuhI'm really looking for something simpler and all encompassing like maybe the Etic Polytest 2000, the Omnitest 2000 or the quot;Cyclonicquot;. I need it to be able to check the battery, quartz crystal, coil, module etc, and also free up the gear train inside the watch.Any experience of these machines? And if so which one is the best? I'm willing to spend around ￡200 UK pounds on the right machine.
