Q:I am considering making another wand for my rituals, one that is a better wood, more straight, and such. They change colour due to impurities only. Its odd for it to suddenly change colour without something to help it. If you left it by a strong heat source, say a cooker or hot radiator, that was ~60+ Celsius that could have caused a change in crystal structure. Or if you left it by a heat source while using bleach or something similar. My knowledge is limited but I hope this helps.

I have been told that I need to know which face is the -X, which I do not know. Is there a way to differentiate between -X and + X after the fact. Quartz is a very common mineral. It's an opaque white stone and the best place is on riverbanks. You have quite a few in you country. A good place is the Sulphur Creek which flows south bringing with it a lot of different minerals. For example pyrite (fools gold), and of coarse your quartz plus mica and granite. Other places that you will find quartz is the Pit River and the Hat River. Look carefully and it will amaze you as to the variety of minerals and rocks you will discover. I hope this helps you. This is rutile inside quartz. So you may have a smoky quartz with some rutile and if any black then those are hematite. Sometimes called rutile quartz.
