Q:I want to lay ceramic tile in the entry way of my townhome. It‘s about 80 sq ft. The house originally came with a generic white vinyl flooring that I swear is officially a part of the concrete slab it lays on. Because it is so firmly attached (no bubbles, no visible defects of any kind) would it be possible to lay the ceramic tiles over the vinyl? I honestly think it‘s going to take more time to rip up that flooring (and the glue that keeps it down) than it will laying the tile. Thoughts? Thanks!
My parents and I recently renovated the basement in our apartment building and my father wanted to put tiles down. He does alot of home renovation work and said the best thing would be to take off the vinyl flooring... due to the cement you put under the tiles it sticks better to wood. It was my job to take the vinyl flooring off and there weren't any bumps, it was well done., I literally had to chizle at one point because I couldn't get it started and there were 3 layers of vinyl flooring!... it came off well once I got it started though.... it looks very nice now... I suggest you take it off..
Q:never installed it before i am putting in mold free dry wall and new fixtures. want to put up tile instead of a surround wondering how hard it is to do thanks
This Site Might Help You. RE: installing cermic tile in shower? never installed it before i am putting in mold free dry wall and new fixtures. want to put up tile instead of a surround wondering how hard it is to do thanks
Q:I‘m having linoleum put in my kitchen and I‘m want to prep the floor. We already tore the carpet up and we weren‘t sure if we should clean the carpet adhesive off the ceramic tiles, or remove the tiles from the concrete.
You will need to remove the tiles and clean the tile adhesive from the concrete or put down a plywood subfloor. Linoleum will in a very short time show any dimple, pimple or ridge that is under it. As an alternative, wouldn't it be better to rehabilitate and regrout the existing ceramic tiles? Lino seems like quite a come down from ceramic. If you're on a budget and the color of the tiles is wrong or some are cracked, replace the cracked ones with light colored tiles of similar thickness. Clean the tile floor thoroughly and paint it. When dry, apply a pattern by dabbing with a sponge dipped in a much lighter shade, then paint the grout by running a brush along the grout lines using an appropriate color. When dry apply 3 coats of satin finish urethane. I've used this method to rehabilitate ceramic floors twice now. The first time was in my son's house 3 years ago and it still looks acceptable despite the best efforts of my 3 grandchildren Good luck
Q:I installed tile couple of days ago in my shower. I was wondering isn't it better to put bathroom caulking instead of grout since it is flexible and it will last longer and provide better water resistance. Does grout make tile stronger or is caulking only applied on edges? Would I make mistake if I used bathroom caulking between tiles? Thanks
Grout is a hard material that stablizes the tile and is more appropriate when the tiles are going to be walked on, sat on or worked on (as in a counter) Caulk is a soft material that water seals cracks and has little or no wear endurance. In theory, you use grout on shower to make it match the appearance of tiles elsewhere in the room, but these days, that is often the only place tiles are used.
Q:i‘m seventeen and my family is moving into a new house soon. I get my own bathroom and would like to redo it a little bit, because it looks like it is straight out of that seventies show. we are going to have to go pretty cheap on the interior design because of the big purchase, so it cant be anything too expensive. the only real problem is the walls of the bathroom are tiled.
You might try tile tattoos. They are easy to install and make your own pattern. Here's where I got mine.
Q:Remodeling the bathroom...How can i drill a hole in ceramic tile...What kind of drill would I use..or what kind of file would be best to make a hole in the tile to go around the shower faucet..Thanks for your input...
You can use a carbide hole cutter in an electric drill. Carbide hole cutters are like ordinary hole saws except the rim is carbide grit instead of teeth. You can get these an several different sizes so you should be able to find one the right size for your purpose. To start the drill, take a nail and hammer a small chip out of the glaze where you want the center of the hole to be, a light tap should do it, this will keep the bit from wandering over the surface and start the hole easier. If it is a wall tile it is probably fairly soft ceramic, not porcelain (which is usually used for floor tile), and it should not be too difficult to drill the hole once you get through the glaze.
Q:I was thinking of installing ceramic floor tiles for countertop in order to save money. I will use 1/16 joints with a dark tile and dark grout. The edges will be mahogoney or oak. I would think that floor tile would hold up better because it is thicker and more durable. Anybody have experience with installing this type on counters? tx in advance..
You must use an appropriate sealer otherwise you will get food contamination (assuming a kitchen counter is being constructed).
Q:Home Depot discontinued this tile and I need more...
we okorder ,which show the product of our company
Q:The previous owner placed VCT tiles on beautiful hardwood floors. I want to remove them, without messing up the wood too bad, since I want to sand and wax the floors after I remove them.Is there a way to do this without ruining the floors? Can I rent a machine? Should I try to heat up the tiles? They are glued on very well, and its a large area. The machines I have seen so far, look like they are made to remove tiles that are placed on concrete. Thanks in advanced
Try a product like Goof Off first. They sellit at Home Depot or Lowes. It cost about $4.00 for a 16 oz can. Wipe on liberally with a cloth and wait a few minutes and scrub off with same cloth. It does have a somewhat harsh smell at first, so make sure adequate ventilation is available especially for a child. I am a contractor and have used this on several types of floor adhesives, but of coarse there are some that will need to be sanded.
Q:I want to put ceramic tile in my dining room, my room is 12' x 11'. So how would I go about deciding how many tiles I would need? The tiles are 12x12. But for ceramic tiles dont you have to leave space in between them?
You will need 132 tiles-get a few extra in case of breakage.I would go with 1/4 space or less. They sell 1/8th inch spacers-less grout to use and less sealer.
