Q:are linulium tiles long lasting? how can I replace.
Are you talking ceramic tiles? Remove the baseboards and use a blow dryer or heat gun and a wide metal putty knife to remove the linoleum. Have a trash can next to you to deposit the linoleum. Once you have that all done email me and I'll tell you what else you need to do. Is the linoleum on concrete or wood subfloor?
Q:it is literally burning hot have no idaea wat the problem is plzz help:). porcelain tile btw
is it floor tile? Wall tile or what? sorry to hear about this problem, if you are a homeowner its up to you, if you are renting, alert your agent ASAP, heat is an indication of fire, water, gas or air permeating the structure where it does not belong. Leave the building if you sense any danger or cannot track its source. You could also contact your local firedepartment for tips over the phone.
Q:Can you lay down those adhesive floor tiles on top of existing tiles? If so, what kind of prep do you need to do to make sure they stick properly. I‘m not sure what type of tiles are in place now, but they are similiar to the types used in schools and other institutions. Very cheap, flexible, and bland. I want to lay something down in place of them, but don‘t want to rip them up. Is that possible? Thanks!
I wouldn't sign my name to a job as you describe, (no offense) and I've installed thousands of sq. ft. of flooring. BUT...If you absolutely don't want to remove the old, and have a sense of their substance (you state school type) perhaps a commercial grade thick vinyl? School type and/or older commercial types are often not exactly flexible and can crack; especially on corners or fitting that is too tight. Certainly you can take the time and effort to rough up the existing. You can also use Lacquer thinner (albeit smelly) to destroy any possible finish from the manufacturer. I do have a suggestion I state in every Vinyl tile Q however. Go to a Lowes or HD. Purchase a gallon or whatever of a water based contact cement. DuPont might be one manufacturer. What I use is a nice looking Aqua color. Peel the paper off the back of the tile as you proceed; Brush on a coat of the cement to the tile back and floor area. Allow dry time and press down. This assumes you've measured/ perhaps squared the room again; dont strictly place the new on the exact seams of the existing; and don't make a mistake in placement. Save your cuts for the last, work toward/ back to an exit point, and allow a few hours at least for some cure time. The water based contact cement is as durable and effective as the lacquer based; dries rapidly; can initially be cleaned up with water; and doesn't have a strictly offensive odor. Steven Wolf
Q:What is the tile material?
Tile raw materials from the clay, quartz sand and so on mixed.
Q:I found answers about laying tile and a backer board over linoleum I didn‘t know if they would be the same. What would cause tile to crack if it‘s places directly on concrete?
remove the vinyl tiles. There are great products that will help with loosening the tiles. should you decide to not remove the tiles this is what could happen. the tiles will move under the ceramic floor and cause cracks in the tiles. replacing the grout is easy not the tiles. if you start with a sound floor then you will have a ceramic floor that will last you for a good long time.
Q:Hi, I am thinking about placing vinyl wood planks over the existing ceramic tile in my house and I wanted to know if it‘s possible. The tile isn‘t completely level due to the grout and obviously not all the tiles are exactly the same height down to the millimeter. I wanted to know 1. Is it possible to install vinyl wood plank over ceramic tile, 2. If so how level the tile floor has to be, 3. How would I go about leveling the floor, with an underlayment or with some sort of mortar, 4. If I use an underlayment do I still need to use the mortar to level the tile?Thank you.
I would not lay vinyl over ceramic tile, especially if the tile isn't even. It will wear the tile out faster, and the tile won't look good over any surface that is not level. Remove the tile, then lay down some 1/2 underlayment plywood--or once the tile is removed, (and all the grout) and the floor is revealed, you may be able to lay the vinyl down over what's underneath. You can't put underlayment over the tile either because it has to be nailed down, and that extra layer will add nearly an inch to your floor--making any transition to other rooms uneven.
Q:The tile in my shower floor got torn apart
DIY doc is correct, but I would add that if this condition has been there for a while, there is the possibility that the floor under the tub is rotted from getting wet everytime some took a shower. I recently had a simular problem in a kitchen of a friend. When I pulled up the tile the floor was so bad that I could stick a screw driver through it with little difficulty. Pulling up the rotted floor boards i discovered that the sub-floor was rotted also. After a little investigating I found a leak in a water line going under his dishwasher. His wife never told him because she thought she was using the dish washer incorrectly. (yes, she is blonde) We had to replace all the flooring in the kitchen
Q:I am looking to either repair my flat tile roof or replace it for a shingle roof.
hndsmenmiami: It depends on the condition of you existing roof. Tile, in general, adds more value to the home. Having said that, I have seen some existing conditions that are bogus and need to go. For example: if your tiles are fastened to the roof with mortar only, and no mechanical fasteners, the mortar begins to seperate at some point, and during a storm you might produce deadly projectiles of tile from your roof. There may be underlying conditions of poor flashing and/or rotted wood that are not visible to you, but can cause big problems. I know an awful lot of people that are scrapping the aging tile roof in favor of shingles for matters of soundness, safety and cost. But I can't see your roof from here, my friend, so you will have to make the call!
Q:How many types of tiles are there?
Generally divided into the following: 1, glazed tiles. 2, quintana bricks. 3, polished tiles. 4, tiles. 5, mosaic. 6, antique brick. 1) glazed tiles: clay or porcelain clay covered with glaze and then made of brick; this brick is divided into two categories: one is made of clay, due to high water absorption and must burn glaze. Because the strength of this brick is low, and now rarely used; the other is fired with porcelain clay, in order to pursue the decorative effect of burning glaze, this tile structure is dense, high strength, low water absorption, anti-fouling Strong, the price is slightly higher than the ceramic firing tiles.Common specifications: square glazed tiles have 152 × 152mm, 200 × 200mm, rectangular glazed tiles with 152 × 200mm, 200 × 300mm, commonly used glazed tiles thickness of 5mm and 6mm.
Q:1. Why floor tiles can pop up?2. What we can do to avoid that?
Hi ...we have a problem with 12x12 tile in the living room area that has popped across the room in a line from one wall to the other...the building is 16 years old and the tile has been down that long.....why all of a sudden the tile would pop ...there they are at there is no sun light or temp change since we are in Florida.....WHAT TO DO???
