Q:what kind of tiles to use on my driveway?
Regular tiles will not be able to handle the weight of a car. Even slate will crush under the weight of a car. Why do you want to tile your driveway? Why not try pavers, almost like brick, and they fit together you could use sand in between the cracks to set them. Or how about decoratice cement stamping? That looks nice as well. I have never seen tiles that could hold a car.... gl!
Q:Ceramic tile or vynil tile for bathrooms?
I like ceramic tile. Yes, it will be cold on your feet in the winter, I just use bathroom rugs and have no problem with this. I prefer ceramic, especially for the bathroom, because that is going to be the wettest room of the house...and even more so if you have kids! Make sure you get textured tiles...we didn't know to do that for the bathroom and needless to say there have been lots of slips and falls when our kids start running through the house with wet feet. I have cleaned many many ceramic floors and many many vinyl floors....not much difference in how well they clean up. Tile has grout, but it won't show dirt depending on the color you choose.
Q:major issue replacing bathroom tile?
It wont raise the floor, jus fix your tiles with a good tile adhesive . dont go for cement.
Q:I am planning on tiling a shower..?
For okorder.com
Q:can you put tile over tile on the kitchen floor?
AS long as the old is stuck well, flat, clean of wax, should be fine . Good Luck
Q:Resurface white tile floor?
Have you considered a tile cleaning service? Replacing would take about a week. I would not tile over existing tile. There are products that can be applied over your existing tile that look exactly like a tile floor, but the process costs about the same and takes just as long as re-tiling. Also the person doing it really has to know what they are doing or the job can look terrible. Holmes on Holmes just did a show on the process and it appeared a bit complicated and does not allow much room for error. I'd either get them professionally cleaned or removed and re-tile.
Q:TILE CATALOGUES ONLINE?
Google American Olean, Florida tile, Dal Tile, Mohawk, Laufen, U S Ceramics, Crossville,Armstrong,Congoleum, or Interceramic. These are a few major manufactures of tile. Most show individual tiles as well as some whole floors. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q:Laying Tile Flooring??
It is not difficult as long as you properly prepare for the job. If it is a single room check if it is square and using a chalk line mark a line you will start with. Use the most exposed area of the room to get perfectly straight line of tiles. Once you start right the rest is just repetition. Another area of concern is what are you putting the tile over. Is is a concrete slab? If so just make sure it is does not have any areas that are elevated. If it is wood sub-floor definitely use backing like wonder board or something like that. Depending on the size of your tiles you need to choose a spacer size. Your retailer will help you with that. Another issue is your connection of tiles to the wall. Do you have a baseboard? If possible remove the baseboard and reapply it after you are done. It will look better and you will have easier time laying the tile. Consider getting a DVD on laying tile, I am sure you retailer can sell you one for just a couple of bucks. Good Luck!
Q:hardwood flooring or ceramic tiles?
I prefer ceramic tile in a kitchen simply because every hardwood floor I've ever had was slippery if liquid was spilled on it. There are issues with keeping the grout clean as someone pointed out, but good maintainence will take care of that. Another factor you'll want to consider is the look of everything else. If you are going with wood cabinets, hardwood floors might be too much. Or if you have a tile countertop and backsplash, tile flooring might be too much. Look at both and compare them to the other elements you have choosen for the kitchen, that will probably make the decision very easy. But either, ceramic tile or natural hardwood, both add a lot of value to your home and look beautiful.
Q:Tiling over laminate countertops?
I tiled over the laminate in my kitchen by sanding the laminate with coarse sandpaper....priming with oil-based kilz-it and then tiled and grouted. It's still in the kitchen for over 7 years. You could also remove the countertop from the cabinet and replace with 1/2 plywood topped with 1/4 cement board but you would have to cut out the whole for the sink. Tiling over it is much easier. Just figure out your tile layout. I used 12 tiles for my custom countertop in my bathroom.
