Q:I drive a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander and I am required to change my timing belt as part of preventive maintenance. When I had been to Firestone, they quoted $998 for Timing Belt Water Pump (both parts labor). When I called Midas, they quoted $550 for the same. Does anyone know why there is such a big difference? I have been a regular at Firestone, so Midas is new to me. Are they reliable? Midas is quoting low now, but would there be a surprise charge after I get it done? BTW, how is a water pump related to a timing belt??
For the best answers, search on this site https://shorturl.im/ayg4o Replacing a water pump may or may not be correct, if it's not leaking or noisy then it is still serviceable. The issue is more of a preventative maintenance issue. It will likely fail, and when it does, you must remove all the parts involved with the timing belt job to access it, so you incur the labor cost twice. I recommend a water pump be done at the second Timing belt or around 120K miles, if not done sooner. also the tensioner pulley/s at that time as a safety practice, some engines use hydraulic tensioners that are prone to failure (early mitsu's). There is no way of saying how long the water pump will last, and when it does fail, it's usually an inconvenience.
Q:Hi, my water pump isn't working in my rover 400i V reg 99 model......does anyone know where under my bonet this is located and whether it's easy done at home?
water pumps are never an easy fix. most the time you have to take the fan off, and the radiator as well so a person has room to work. MOST water pumps are in front of the motor, towards the bottom. If you follow your radiator hoses you will find it.
Q:Hello! Can someone please tell me where the water pump is located on this vehicle? Or where I might find the answer to this question? Thanks!
You see the big hose that enters your rad on the top well follow that hose and see were it comes from the engine..and that's the water pump..pretty simple thing to find my friend..good luck
Q:Cant get the bolt loose fromthe fan that is attached to the water pump in my ford ranger. need to remove bolt in order to remove water pump.
you're taking a wrench which will greater healthful at the back of the fan, and knock with a hammer on the wrench to interrupt the nut loose. you turn the nut to loosen it an identical way the fan turns while the engine is working
Q:I have oil all over my water pump. I investigated when I saw a few drops of oil in the garage that showed up every few days. I then saw a drop of clean radiator fluid. Does oil come near or through the water pump? I have a 96 nissan maxima if that helps.
you have blown the head gasket it seperates the water from the oil do not drive the car it will ruin the motor
Q:are there any pumps that can save energy more? Environmental protection is necessary and the price is not high.
Water pump. ( Pond ) Sump pump. ( Flood prevention ) Auto water pump. ( Radiator ) What is the specific purpose of the pump.
Q:The coolant in my '92 Le Baron is leaking, so I may have to change or replace my water pump.., any ideas?
first be sure it is the pump that is leaking and not just a hose!!! I have seen the hoses leak and people brought me there car wanting me to fix the water pump and all it was ..... the hose was wore out and soft by the clamp and had sprung a small leak.... check that first before going all out and changing the water pump!!! also what size moter you have?? 4, 6, ?? makes a bit of a differance!! also check by the pulley, there is a small like hole in the pump.... see if it has a water type stain on it.... if so then the pump is going bad!!!
Q:i need to know an estimated cost for changing this cars water pumpthanks..
Too okorder i did this, and by doing so it saved me money, time, and the risk of getting ripped off.
Q:How tight to a tighten down the bolts on a '86 volvo 240 water pump. The manual I bought doesn't say. The torque won't help me cause I don't have a torque wrench, so just general discription would help a lot. (I stripped the threads on a stud last time)
the pump is held on with 6mm x 100 thread pitch nuts and bolts. the best tool to use will be a 1/4 inch drive ratchet and short extension with a 10 mm deep socket [6 point] these bolts are 12-15 ft bs. of torque if you snug bolts down evenly and use only moderate pressure as a final tighten you should be alright. after srarting all bolts let pump relax so the top seal is not crushed
Q:replaced water pump and thermostat, flushed, opened bleeder valve had long life red colored original coolant, no visible leaks obstruction, when became hot on highway, accelerated quickly and temp back down to norm, eventually after 3hrs driving o.heated stopped and got towed home, new water pumps fins/pulley not turning as freely as old one, no leak out of inspection hole, hoses good shape.2001 2.2l ohv sunfire, air cond.
Check the bearings on the pulley / pack some grease in there. Hope some help !
