- Q:We have not picked out the tile yet, is one type better or worse/easier or harder to install?
- Are you speaking about vinyl or ceramic tile? if it's ceramic go to Home Depot and ask about there floor tile classes. It's best to learn from the experts. They have a full class line up of all tile classes. You'll need various tools and equipment that I just cannot put all of it down here. You'll have to rent some equipment for ceramic tile, others for vinyl, etc. it's best to see them at Home Depot.

- Q:Im trying to figure out how to apply (vct) Vinyl tile squares? Whats the best way to start a project? What adhesive do you use if any? Is it like ceramic with some form of grout? etc!
- Look you don't have to start in the middle of the room measure across the room. Measure your sticky back tile. Figure out how much you will have to cut off of the two peices of tile on either wall. try to make it so you are cutting the exact same amount off of both peices. Once you have figured it out and laid down the first on one side go across the room. Remeasure the last peice to make sure, if it a little different it is ok. It will look as if both wall peices go under youe wall. and you won't have a full peice at one end and a half peice at the other or just a sliver on one end. Oh yeah make sure you pull up your base board so you can cover any gaps against your wall first, because usually most houses start off somewhat square, but you will still have a small crack to cover up. You might want to consider also putting down a shoe molding (just a thought). Use something like a rolling pin to apply the tile to the floor well. DO NOT PUSH DOWN ON THE TILE UNTIL YOU ARE SURE THAT IT IS IN THE RIGHT PLACE. Try to get the seams as tight as possible. You should do fine just take your time, and you will probably also cut a few tiles the wrong size. It is ok, Use a box knife to cut your tile from the back of it. Score a line, not necessarily all the way through, then simply break it, then come down the front with your knife to make the precise cut the rest of the way through. Have fun.

- I don't know what type of tiles you have, but if it doesn't have a glazed finish, you may not be able to do much about it. Travertine is a popular natural limestone that is very popular these days and is frequently used in bathrooms. The only drawback is that it is a soft and porous material, so it is much easier to damage that a glazed tile or a natural polished marble. The good news is that it is relatively inexpensive and easy to replace. Call a good tile man and get a quote to refinish and a quote to replace the damaged pieces.
- Q:My bathroom in my new house has the ugliest green tile halfway up the wall and then a different shade of green tile on the floor. My husband I have a little experierience with fixing stuff up, but this one has us puzzled. We want to tear the tile down and put up drywall. Then we‘d like to carpet the floor. - If the tiles go all the way around the room, measure up 4' at each corner. Use a chalk line or level to make a horizontal line around the room. All hardware below this line should be removed. Towel bars, heat register covers, cabinets, toilet, door trim, etc. If the wall is drywall, you could cut along this line with a drywall hand saw. If you have access to a sawzall (reciprocating saw), the process will go quick. (If you're handy, you should have this tool). To avoid cutting wires, pipes, pay close attention when cutting. Lay tool against wall in line with chalk line. Start blade, slowly, then lower blade to line. Now tilt blade inward. CAUTION. Go only as deep as needed to penetrate wall. If you go deeper, you risk cutting wires or plumbing. Now pull saw along line around perimiter of room. Safety glasses are recommended during cuttiing and removal. Use hammer to make hole in wall just below cut line. Using Gloves, pull sections of drywall and tile by hand as much as possible. If screws remain in the studs hit with a hammer at a 45% angle. they should break off. If it's nails, you should pull them. Floor tiles will come up with a flat pry bar and a hammer. Just pick a spot along an edge. Use a couple sharp blows with hammer to start, then use flat bar and hammer to peel out floor tile and grout. Hope this motivates you to go for it.
