Necessary? No. As long as you continue with the maintenance service that Honda asks (30K, 45K, 60K,etc,,) your Element will go another 96K and some If only people would realize that the saying Pay a little now or pay alot later is all too true in the automotive world. There would be a lot more hungry people in the world. Salt is a food additive. Food would be pretty bland without salt. The grocery store shelves would be pretty empty. Not many things would keep for more than a week left out. Life would be that much harder.

NOT REALLY! the filter shoud clean things up for you, and it is NOT really like the old days of engines where sludge and coke would STOP the pump from working and jamb up the screen. You did the RIGHT thing by doing a SLUDGE removal and clean up. I use AMSOIL CRANKCASE CLEANER or B-G to do the job, B U T , switch over to SYNTHETIC oil. Get a full COOLING SYSTEM flush as well since the sludge can get in there, TOO! If the pan is EASY to get to, then FINE have it dropped. but the REAL problem is a dirty IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. And throttle body. AMSOIL POWER FOAM will get this showroom in SECONDS. If this is the 2.7 engine you MAY have some internal parts to change and improve. TOO BAD, it ruined CHRYSLERS image for a while. The JUNK yards have LOTS and LOTS of bad ones in crates. Use ALLDATA and NHTSA as a guideline for what to do. Just TYPE your car and engine type directly into NHTSA blanks. They will TELL you what has been recalled and why or what the most prominant issues with your car really are! The IAC vavle feint unes the engine as you drive by adding MORE air as required to make the O2 sensorss and converter happy! I cannot remember if oil burning on those things was due to RING issues or valve seal problems. NHTSA will know for SURE! I woudl consider getting rid of that car before it has ZERO worth,b ut that is just ME I guess. GOOD LUCK ANYWAYS!!

Can't hurt. The fuel injector cleaner additives might even help somewhat if you've got an injector or two that's not atomizing the fuel properly. Try it - the only thing you've got to lose is the price of the additive, and it might save you a trip to the repair shop.
