Q:I recently put in a wood stove. It was professionally installed and certified to meet fire regulations. I don‘t know anything really about the install just that it doesn‘t require any r value underneath it. It just requires a pad for embers. There was a long waiting list to get it installed but an opening came up and we got it installed sooner than we planned. So we didn‘t get the tiling done. Currently it is sitting on a base made with 2x6s spaced 6 apart covered with 3/4 plywood and a sheet of durock cement board attached with durock screws and all seems taped with durock tape and covered with durock cement plaster. I want to finish it with tile. However, the stove is too heavy for us to lift. Its a pedestal woodstove so would it look okay tile up to the pedestal? If so how much space should I leave against the pedestal? What should I put in the gap? High-heat caulking? I‘m very new to this so any advice is welcomed. Q:IAM REDOING MY KITCHEN FLOOR. IS PEEL STICK TILE GOOD FOR THE PROJECT N WILL IT LAST? THANKS: They work just fine and they last a long time, if they didn't they wouldn't still be selling them. I've used them quite a few times and they look great. You need to follow the instructions and make sure you use a sizing over the bare floor or the glue dries out and the tiles can come up. Make sure you check the run number on the boxes so the color matches correctly and look at the arrows on the back of the tiles and keep them going the same direction. Also make sure you but them together tightly along the edges so you don't have seams that can get water under the tile. Use a utility knife to cut them and start your layout from the center of the room so you can use the cut pieces on the opposite walls and have less waste. Good luck.

Q:he walk on tile like he is walking on ice it is kinda funny but still is it anything i need to worry about he is just a baby puppy like 4 to 5 months old: I think it is something to worry about, if he loses his balance he can easily hurt his foot or hit his head on something. Have carpets or mats around that has grippers below it, so its easier and safer for your puppy to walk/run on.

Q:Our house has Asbestos floor tiles throughout. (I had them tested, and they definitely contain asbestos.)The dilemma: Currently these tiles are covered with carpet. The carpet is old and ugly and needs to be replaced. We want to replace it with Laminate flooring.I‘m worried about pulling up the carpet tacks at the edges.Is there a safe way to do that?Also, is it safe to put Laminate flooring over asbestos tiles?: This probably isn't going to be cheap but you MUST get the asbestos out of the house asap. The only legal way is to employ a specialist firm to come in and remove it for you as they will have all the right equipment to remove it safely. They will also be licensed to take it away and dispose of it correctly. It's not just a matter of taking it to the local waste disposal site. If they're a reasonable company they may even take your old carpets away for you aswell because if they've been laid directly on top of the tiles there'll definitely be traces of asbestos in the carpets.

Q:we‘ve moved into a 1930s flat with those old bakelite tiles, i think they‘re caller marley tiles. does anyone know a good way to get paint off them, and how to get them looking shiney and new again.cheers!: The one thing you do not want to do is use any harsh or abrasive cleanser on them. If they are real bakelite then they can lose their gloss and can be ruined. First try a bit of liquid laundry soap and warm water on a terry washcloth or small towel and dab or blot it on the spots. As the warm water and soap sit on the paint it will soften enough to scrape off with your fingernail or a popsicle stick. Always try any cleaning on a tile that is not seen readily, like under the sink if available, to insure that the finish does not get damaged. I have never known tiles to be made of bakelite but plastic was used extensively up to the 1970's and it can be cleaned with mineral spirits if necessary. If the soap and water do not work try mineral spirits, (also known as paint thinner and/or turpentine) on a small area of the tiles. You can try the fingernail scraping method first and some of the paint may come off straight away if it is latex and not too thick. If you get all the paint off you can shine them with carnuba wax, but try the wax on a hidden tile to make sure it does not have a reaction with bakelite. Best of luck.
