Taurus up until 99, had all types of tranny problems and they can go with little warning. You didn't say the year. Ford used some softer aluminum valves in it to save weight I assume and these especially in 2nd gear go out around 100k. It's hard to drop the tranny in them, limited space. Additives can actually make them slip more, get it checked soon.
