Q:I would get a bathroom rug set, but I want the whole floor covered. I also rent so I don't want to damage the floor.
I would suggest buying a remnant from a carpet/linoleum store that is big enough, cutting it out and laying it flat, but not tacking it down. The weight of it will hold it is place quite well. Have done several things like this. :)
Q:How to check the quality of construction of wood flooring?
Look at the shop flatness, the size of the gap to go foot feeling
Q:I mop with hot water and pine-sol mix in a bucket then i proceed to pour the mixture on the floor and mop it around but then when i let the sun dry it out it leaves my floor with these weird water stains on the floor. What is the proper way to mop a floor so i wont have to do it over and over?
Do you give it the second mopping with clean water, to get up the pine sol? You have to mop it twice.
Q:Which is cheaper, having my badly damaged oak floors patched and refinished by a professional or installing a pergo type floor over the existing flooring myself? I know the level of the floor will be raised up a bit. That's ok.
Home Depot carrys a flooring called Allure. It looks like wood but its vinyl and really cheap. Installs over just about anything and unlike Pergo its moisture proof. Its super easy to install too. This would probably be cheapest but I would really look into getting the real wood floors refinished, you will be SO much happier with real wood.
Q:I need help finding out if the floor in the building I work at is capable of supporting a restaurant.I know an engineer should be hired, but my boss is an architect who thinks he knows. The question comes in two parts-1- 2 1/2" x 12" (actual) joists on 16" centers, 16' 6" long, made of 100+ yr. old western wood (presumably San Francisco area lumber). Are they capable of supporting 100 lbs. sq ft. load?2- If a wall (theoretically non load-bearing, but floor to ceiling, with two floors of apartments above) were put on the floor, parallel to the joist, would the joist underneath it need to be reinforced? If it makes any difference, the floor will be 4" x 4" ceramic tile, on two layers of 3/4" ply.
This is something that needs to be visually inspected. What it comes down to is, you would need permits to make this conversion and so the county is going to impose requirements. If you are serious about this project you should consider finding out what those requirements will be. If they include a structural engineer's drawing and approval, then you might as well get that ball rolling. I don't think you can go on anything anyone can tell you here. Sure it sounds like it has the potential of being adequate, but there is also potential for additional support needing to be added below, such as a beam perpendicular across the center on posts. Consider the combined weight of occupancy and service equipment on the entire floor. Look for any signs of stress, rot, infestation, water damage, trades over drilling, sagging, splitting, etc. These will be the determining factors. Chances are good that you have adequate support but my opinion on the matter is useless to you.
Q:could u build a stair case on top of the floor without messing the floor up?
yep where there is a will ther is a way. I do carpentry and ever-thing I do is perfect(and anything thats not there is always an easy fix) So for a floating floor that doesnt float of the steps scribe a pattern for each step and cut it tight and snap it in as for a finished look on the nose, rip your floor at a 45 using a laminte or solid surface blade(triple chip) then glue up your noses using exopy(epoxy is strong and fast drying) Once the tread is snaped in to place cut a lenght for your nose, apply exopy and then apply to the tread. Build a jig to apply square pressure keeping the nose from dropping or moving away from the tread and weight it down with all those books you aren't reading. Viola you have tigh fitting, nonslipping, glueless, laminate flooring. Oh yeah and if you dont want to spend the time to be a perfect carpenter just glue them, then when you are ready to pull them up come on yahoo answers and ask how to refinish a floor.
Q:is there different flooring that i could install over tile?
you can put pergo over tile. It's a wood laminate floor, looks like hardwood. You can install it over tile because it's a floating floor, you dont nail it down. There are also other types of this flooring, same general applicaiton
Q:I have laminated floors in everyone of my rooms, I tried cleaning them with vinegar, water, commercial products, but there are still streaks when the floor dries. What else can I do?
Use murphy oil soap you can find it most any where or just go to home depot its great stuff and concentrated its for wall washing cabinets all kinds of stuff
Q:I pulled up my old vinyl kitchen flooring (7 years old) and found that the underlayment is in great shape except that the original vinyl was just glued about 3 inches around the entire perimeter. I scraped the old glue as best as possible and it is almost perfectly level with the rest of the floor. Does it need to be perfectly smooth where it meets the unglued edge or is a slight ridge OK to keep it from showing through the new vinyl flooring? I do have floor "sizing" that I plan to use where there are any nicks or impressions. Should I use the sizing around the edges and taper to the good flooring or am I overdoing this project? I plan to lay new vinyl flooring this wekend. I'd appreciate any good advice. PS: I also tried sanding the old glue to take off any high ridges using 80 paper. Thanks
If it's just around the outer edge it should'nt be a big issue as the edges tend to be low or even no traffic areas, so the new flooring wo'nt get damaged due to the rise & heavy foot traffic. Chances are that nobody will ever see the difference unless they knew it was there! Hope this was helpful, good luck!!
Q:So I have a 2000 pontiac firebird, and I seriously need a plastic floor covering that will cover under the seats, and everything not just a silly 'floor mat'Do any of you guys know where to buy this at?? Because most places just sell a mat, not a covering like carpet but plastic carpet.
There are dozens of places where you can buy complete interior repair kits or new carpeting for your car. I suggest using Google or Bing to find them.
