- Hi Don, In my point of view it depend on the final effect that you want to create. If you are in the mood of water theraphy, mean that you like to the sound of the water fall, you may want to consider a pump size that a bit higher than your previous ones, and vice versa. In a nutshell you should be able to determine the effect of the waterfall you need since you already have your previous old pump running before.This should be your best guideline to check the size of your new pump needs. There is a bit of extra caution needed if you are thinking of using a bigger size of pump, you should ensure that the pump are not sucking to fast of the water. If this is the case you might be end up having your pond drain half tank. You can get the circle time for the water flow base on the pump size from the catalog.I'm sure your hardware guy are gladly assist you in understanding the matrix conversion Pond size over the pump size,since I can't explain in detail here about the graph reading. But in most cases I just relatively using the first option of comparing the old pump size with the new one. Hope that help. Fazla
- Q:I have a 1969 Chrysler with a new 3 core radiator. It still has the stock water pump and I am wondering if a high volume pump would make it run cooler at higher speeds. It runs hotter when you get off the freeway. I have flushed the system and installed a new thermostat. I also replaced the fan clutch. I am at a loss of why it still runs warmer than the 180* thermostat.

- The belt driven pump is operating all the time the engine is running. This takes some of the HP of the engine and causes wear and tear of the belt and the pump. The electric driven water pump is operated on demand from the water thermostat and only runs when the water temp. rises above the setting and shuts off again on returning to the setting. Saves engine HP and pump wear and tear...It's much more efficient.

You can use a submersible pump or have the pump located somewhere near the well head or in a building nearby (a pump house say). Because it is so involved and back-breaking work, it is better to hire a PRO.

- The switch may have gotten some debris in it. Try removing it(again) Clean the passage way out. If possible try running the water a few seconds while this is off to clear any debris than reinstall and check. It also could be low pressure in the expansion tank or a bad bladder in same.

- Parts are inexpensive depending on make and model, Labor is what gets you. I'd say your looking at about $150.00 to $200.00 for water pump. Less than that for thermostat.
