- Q:I need a new vacuum cleaner for my home. We DON'T have pets. I'd prefer a lightweight vac. We had the CR magazine issue with the reviews a few months back but I must've lost it or thrown it out. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
- I'm impressed with Dyson. It's not too heavy to drag around and it has no bags to empty. You just remove the top section and chuck out the dust. It does a brilliant job.
- Q:My cat runs away from the vacuum cleaner whether it is off or on. Why is that?
- Some do, and some don't. Several of mine take off, and others simply watch. It most likely is a noise that is not common, and some cats have a hair trigger spook factor. The slightest change, and off they go. And if they see you moving the vacuum cleaner (even if off), they are smart enough to know where the noise comes from. For people who show cats in shows, they use a vacuum cleaner to determine if their cat will do all right being in a cat show. If the cat shows no concerns, then the hustle and bustle of a cat show will also not affect them.
- Q:I have a Eureka Whirlwind (canister vacuum cleaner). I have probably had it for 4 years or so. Sometimes it quot;spitsout garbage from the canister. Should a vacuum cleaner last only 4 years? Or maybe the belt needs to be changed? Any ideas?
- If it is tossing trash out from the canister, there is a filter inside which is broken and needs to be replaced. There is no reason why a vacuum cleaner cannot last for decades.
- Q:what is the history behind it, future designs background research.
- No one really knows when the first hand held vacuum cleaner was created but it was long after first vacuum cleaners were invented. First portable cleaners were carried on back until technology allowed to minimised their size. Future designs? Dyson DC30 Hand Held is a future IMO, but who knows? FOr sure they will be lighter and more compact.
- Q:If sound doesnt travel through a vacuum, why are vacuum cleaners so loud?
- That would be the motor you are hearing, which is not in vacuum. Good play on words though. Take it up to space and you won't hear a thing ;-)
- Q:17th century chemist and physicist Rober Boyle discovered that sound won't travel through a vacuum. Then why is my vacuum cleaner so loud?
- True - sound does not travel in a vacuum. But you do not have a vacuum inside your machine. You have only a partial vacuum. It takes sophisticated lab machinery to make a perfect vacuum (or you can travel to outer space). However vacuum or not, most of the sound from a vacuum cleaner comes from the motor, through the external housing.
- Q:Lawnmowers, vacuum cleaners, weird noises in general ect... ??? Thank you for answering.
- Charlie: Vacuum, getting picked up, not getting enough attention, remote control helicopter. Barry: Having to sit still, one of the other Dogs chewing on his bone, my remote control truck. Brandy: Many things.
- Q:I know that most cats are afraid of the vacuum cleaner, but when we vacuum our adult cat will hide for hours on end. We have dark carpet so we vacuum almost every other day. It took him 4 hours to come out from behind our table, and when I coaxed him to me, he just sat frozen next to me and stared at the vacuum that was across the room. He was literally shivering at the sight of it. When I went to put it away, he went back under the table. I cannot get him to come back out. I've tried leaving him in another room while I vacuum, but he knows how to open doors and hates being shut up in our room or the bathroom. Last time I tried, he opened the bathroom door and then bolted under the table. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I have to vacuum frequently, but I feel guilty when I do because he is so afraid. We have had him for about 2 weeks and are still trying to figure him out. Is this normal cat behavior, or are most cats simply bothered by vacuums?
- Two weeks isn't long enough for him to get used to the new sites and sounds. Let him hide where ever he wants when you vacuum. Let him come out in his own time, but talk to him and let him know you are there for him. Patience is very important, it may take a year, or he may never get used to the loud sound. Do your normal activities and don't be quiet, this might help him get used to normal everyday things going on in your home.
- Q:What value does Voltage indicate for vacuum suction?
- You need to explain this better, it makes no sense as it is. edit: no way to know exactly. Voltage alone tells you nothing. But the power used (in watts) could be a guide, if you have that number, in watts. 1400 mA-hour is a measure of the charge stored in the battery, so that is no help, as you need a time number to convert that to mA, which, with the voltage, can give you power in watts. My experience is that hand held vacuum cleaners are all very feeble.
- Q:Skimmers are machines like vacuum cleaners that pull up the oil from the surface of the water. The water must be calm in order for skimmers to be effective.
- Your own original version is better than any of the commenters' suggestions. Nothing wrong with the original at all.
