- My second oldest son just got put in charge of the big garden at his university. My oldest son has a huge garden and is selling vegetables to farmers markets and to an inn near his home. His wife was raised on a farm but he's the one that does most of the work in the garden. I'm glad they didn't think it was a girl thing when they were young. They were great helps in the home vegetable garden my husband and I have. That second oldest son also designed and planted a study garden. It was a place for him to study away from his younger siblings. Its a great place to go to for peace and quiet. Its full of ferns, flowers and shrubs. Grow some weird vegetables that will amaze your friends and shut them up. I grow brilliant GREEN and blue corn, purple sweet potatoes, purple green beans, purple tomatoes and purple potatoes. You can find the seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. BTW, the guy that founded Baker Creek started the company when he was just a kid and look where its taken him!
- Q: Ive been thinking of subscribing to some magazines, I don't know much about gardening but I'd like to start one next spring, vegetables and flowers, and I'll prolly be planting some stuff this fall too (tulips! maybe other stuff too?) - Q: I'm looking for the buckeye candy recipe from he Better Homes Gardens Christmas Cookie publication from 1998. They had a 50-State salute that year, and the buckeye was the recipe for Ohio. If anyone has this, please please post it for me.
- Candy Ingredients: 1 stick softened butter 1 3/4 c. (1 18 oz. jar) creamy peanut butter 1 tsp. vanilla About 1 lb. confectioners' sugar Chocolate Coating Ingredients: 1 (12 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips 1 tbsp. vegetable shortening Directions: Cream butter, peanut butter, and vanilla together, adding confectioners' sugar until the right consistency is reached. Roll candy into 1-inch balls and place on a wax paper-lined cookie sheet. Melt chips and shortening together in the top of double boiler, and keep the chocolate mixture in the double boiler over low heat while dipping the candy. Using toothpicks, dip each ball into the chocolate mixture, covering 3/4 of candy. Place candy on the cookie sheet to cool. Makes about 8 dozen pieces.

- I have seen several water bogs. these are areas that have rocks with a liner of some sort like a trap with no holes under the rocks. dig a small square, round,rectangle area, just deep enough that you can place the rocks down and then fill the liner up with water.The water can be over the rocks or just to the side of them. Just depends on what effect you are looking for. If you are wanting a higher layer effect do the same procedure but get rocks you can stack on top of one another and purchase a pump and hose the length of the height to your pile.All of my rocks I have gotten by walking county line roads or dirt roads. Visit a rock quarry too can get you some really neat rocks as well. Draw up what you want your rock fountain to look like and then go hunting for your rocks. If you have a family make it an outting and have fun with it. Good Luck!!!
