- Q:currently have vinyl tile glued to concrete on grade. Want to install bamboo floor / engineered wood. Can we go on top of existing vinyl?
- If the vinyl tile thats down now is well bonded, not coming up at all and the floor is flat.There are ways to do it. Most certainly you can do a floating floor system. Glue direct can also be down if certain precautions are done ,like roughing up the vinyl,cleaning it well and the use or the proper glue to bond to vinyl. - Q:The hammer took a chip out of one tile, the chip is about the size of a pencil eraser. I‘m just heartbroken as we just had this tile installed 12 days ago! Is there any way to fix this- short of replacing the tile? I‘ve already bought a rug that will cover the hole but I‘d still like to fix it if I can. Just in case we ever would like to go without a rug. Thank you!!!
- Got any tiles left over from the job? You can (carefully!) chip the old tile out in pieces with a hammer and a chisel, (VERY carefully!) chip out the grout between the broken tile and the ones next to it. and chip out the cement under the broken tile until you're down to the backer board. Once that's done, clean out all the chips, dust, etc, and chip out the cement that you missed. Clean again, check for still more cement (it's persistent stuff), until the area is clean. Set the spare tile down in the space to make sure it fits OK. It should set below the level of the other tiles. If not, you missed some cement. Go back to step B. Finally, you're ready. Mix some tile cement, dump a glop in the center of the cleared area, spread it around, and use a tile trowel if you have one to spread it and groove the cement. The grooves let you spread the cement and give it some extra area to fasten to the back of the tile. Put the tile in place, wiggle it around and move it until you like where it's sitting, wipe up any cement that oozed up around the sides, and don't walk on it for 2 days. Finally, mix up some grout, spread it into the seams, wipe it off the tiles around the seams, and don't walk on it for another day. Seal the seams, and carry your hammer carefully from now on.
- Q:I want to lay tiles on my concrete driveway, is that possible. I don't want to hire the expert to demolish the concrete, pave it with gap sand and the usual stuffs. I know how to do indoor tiles layering, but wasn't sure regular tiles will hold up 3 tons of vehicle weighs. Anyone knows any other way. Thanks.
- Regular tiles will not be able to handle the weight of a car. Even slate will crush under the weight of a car. Why do you want to tile your driveway? Why not try pavers, almost like brick, and they fit together you could use sand in between the cracks to set them. Or how about decoratice cement stamping? That looks nice as well. I have never seen tiles that could hold a car.... gl!

- let the first slot be filled with a tile covering the whole breadth. then the remaining slots can be filled in f(n-1) ways. again if the first slot be covered in 1ft /3ft way then the remaining slots may be filled in f(n-3) ways. so in my opinion f(n)=f(n-1)+f(n-3)

- A good quality floor tile will be fine, provided they are well supported underneath with no air gapes.
- Q:I was wondering about space between tile when laying tile floor. I have seen online and in person tile floors(don‘t know marble or porcelain or what) where it is completely flat and smooth and the tiles appear butted together. I prefer this look as opposed to the typical tile floor with grout lines that are shallower than the tops of the tile. I was wondering how to get this flat look when every where I have read online says you cannot or at least should not butt tiles together. I hope I described what im looking for accurately and am hoping to get some options. Again I am looking for a flat smooth surface nothing with the dips or recesses of the grout lines. how is that done??
- What you want all depends on the type of tile you choose. Granites and marbles you can do this with.There are some vitrified tiles that this can be done with. These are cut (the 2 stones) this way to butt them almost all the way together.Vitrified tiles are formed with the edges slanted so you butt them together.. These are all made to use a very small grout joint but you still need to have grout. Most all other ceramic and porcelain tiles you need a slightly bigger joint and only as small as 3/16 .The type of grout these require you can only do a joint that small. - Q:how can i tile over linolium flooring without pulling it up?
- Jim has the right idea. Lay 1/4 inch wood(called Luann or mahogany over the floor). Screw it 4 on center on the joints and 6 on center in the rest of the sheet. Cover all screws and seams with Ardex or 20 min taping compound ( comes in a bag, don't mix too mutch at one time). Tile according to manufactures recommendations.
- Q:I want to lay tile in my mobile home, and I want a cheaper alternative to wonderboard for the tile that I want to install. My home is on a concrete foundation tied down and the flooring is solid I‘m just concerned with the tile not sticking to the osb plywood. Any serious answers would be appreciated
- Tile will stick to plywood just fine. People use wonderboard for a couple of reasons. First, if the surface can get wet (like a bathroom floor or a shower wall), the wonderboard will not get damaged by water that might seep between cracks in the grout. Second, wonderboard is less flexible than wood for a given thickness. For a wood subfloor, any flexing can lead to cracking of the grout and/or the tiles. If the wood is thick enough (1/2 to 3/4 inches) and firmly secured to the subfloor with lots of screws, it shouldn't flex to the point where the tile or grout is damaged. If it does crack later on, you can always regrout the damaged areas.
- Q:I am getting ready to replace my kitchen flooring. It currently has sticky vinyl tiles, which I hate. I want a nice tile look for sure. However, it seems it is very hard work installing real tile, and more expensive. I have seen some laminate click together tile flooring that looks pretty good.Which one is best? Which one would last the longest? Any other insight? Thanks!
- Ceramic tile, properly installed will out last any flooring..You have your choice of ceramic, porcelains and even real stone, if thats properly sealed. Dropping something of properly prepped and installed tile will NOT crack it. You may top chip it but you would also damage any other flooring thats installed. Laminates ,of good quality will last a long time but the water factor and being in a kitchen is high risk. Sheet vinyl , as long as you don t get a base grade and get a decent product,, is also a good flooring.The new vinyls have better top coats and clean and last longer with warranties that last a long time. Tile is labor intense but the savings out weigh having it installed. You can install it yourself for the price of having some one else install vinyl.
