Q:how much would you pay for a 2'x4' solar panel that puts out 24 volts and 74 watts?
That's a rather low power for that size. Is it an old panel? Is it amorphous silicon, or crystalline? That should easily fetch $ per watt on craigslist. If I was buying a panel myself, I would probably get a more mainstream panel from a major internet vendor.
Q:Do solar panels require direct sunlight to generate electricity?
No, solar panels do not require direct sunlight to generate electricity. They can still generate power even in cloudy or overcast conditions, although the amount of electricity produced may be reduced.
Q:How many solar panels would it take to run an electric motor the needs 480 volts and pulls about 45 to 50 amps?
If you have 480 volts, it might be 3-phase, and not a simple matter of multiplying volts and amps. However, that's in the ballpark of 25 kW, very doable for solar. That's on the high end of a residential installation, but very small for an institutional installation. What will influence the size of the array more is where you are geographically (that is, how much sun you get), and how often the motor runs (that is, how much energy in kWh does it use per day)? 480 volts is nothing to be trifled with. You should really get a power engineer to architect your system.
Q:What is the average payback period for solar panels?
The average payback period for solar panels typically ranges from 5 to 10 years, depending on various factors such as the initial cost of installation, local electricity rates, available incentives, and the amount of sunlight received in the area.
Q:How much roof space is needed for solar panels?
The amount of roof space needed for solar panels depends on several factors, such as the size and efficiency of the panels, the energy needs of the household or building, and the available sunlight in the area. Generally, it is recommended to have around 100 to 400 square feet of unshaded roof space per kilowatt of installed solar panels. It is best to consult with a solar professional to determine the exact roof space requirements for your specific situation.
Q:I am trying to built a circuit that will power two USB ports (both 5V and 0.5 amps) from the output of a solar panel that produces 20V at 0.2 amps. I have a voltage regulator that runs at 5v and 0.5 amps but I can't figure out the best way to boost the current up to 0.5 amps before I incorporate the voltage regulators.
The previous answer about wattage is correct, so this is your first problem. Try increasing the number of solar panels by connecting them in parallel. To answer your question about increasing current, a voltage regulator wastes energy to regulate voltage. You need somthing that is not so wasteful, and that is a DC-DC converter. You will need to buy a 20V-5V model. this will give you less voltage but more current than you origionally had with your solar panel. You can alter voltage and current capacity, but you cant increase power (watts) with a DC-DC converter.
Q:What makes them stop working after a while?
They are used in an environment that's very harsh for semiconductors, especially the high temperatures. Ion migration and many other failure mechanisms increase with temperature. Thermal expansion adds its own mechanical stresses.
Q:I'm re-doing my roof. Is it workable? Can I get a government grant or something to put solar panels on my roof?I know they did something like that for windows.
solar panels take about 5 to 20 yrs to break even. for the average home
Q:Can solar panels be installed on a university or college campus?
Yes, solar panels can absolutely be installed on a university or college campus. In fact, many educational institutions have already embraced solar energy and installed solar panels on their campuses. These panels can be placed on rooftops, parking structures, or open spaces to generate clean and renewable electricity. Installing solar panels not only helps reduce the environmental impact of the campus but also provides educational opportunities for students to learn about sustainable energy practices.
Q:We are thinking about useing solar panels for our house.Does anyone know about solar panels? If so could you please tell me some information on them, and the cost for a home,to install them.
solar panels are device that convert sun energy into electric energy by physic and chemical effect.solar panels price is high, but you will save your late electricity bill,it is cost effictive.
