- Q: The Physics club in our school is trying to convince the Board of Ed to install solar panels in our school, and i was just wondering if anyone with some experience or real expertise in solar energy. I need some points about their usefulness some real pros and cons on maintenance, etc. Anything will help. Personally i would be perfectly for the idea, but i heard that the overall cost of installing them is much higher than the cost of the energy saved and government subsidies, but ive only heard about this.
- You have to approach it as an investment. Ignoring the cost of an inverter for net metering, if we consider a 500 W panel installed for $0 a watt which is $5,000 and consider an average of 8 hours of usable sunlight per day, and at a rate of $0.0 per kWh (schools probably get $0.03 per kWh) then the panel would be saving $2.7 per month in electricity. Considering that the panel has an expected lifespan of 20 years, that would give you an internal rate of return such that the monthly rate satisfies the equation: $5,000 = $2.7 * ( ( - / R^24 ) / ( - / R ) - ) By binary method we get R = 0.99588342. Taking this to the 2th power to annualize it we get Ra = 0.9570 which means that we are getting an annual return of -4.83% per annum so investing in the solar panel is the same as making an investment at an interest rate of -4.83% per year. True interest rates are low and you only get about .3% per annum by putting money in a CD but that still beats investing in solar panels which gives you a negative return on your money. Solar panels need to get a lot better before they are a good investment.
- Q: can anyone help me? i was thinking of installing solar panels to cut bills but would it be a waste considering its gonna need a circulating pump running almost 24/7 (which will use electricity) and even still will only provide me with quot;warmwater? also would it be possible to install the solar panels for the sole purpose of providing sufficient power to run electric heaters instead of using gas/oil? this way allowing me to have a warm house without the expensive bills. brobably talking about running 7 heaters/electric radiators.
- A thermal solar panel to feed your water heater is the most efficient. But you need a classic heater system too when there is no or little sun. Solar panels to heat a home is not at all recommended. First of all, you get less day light and less sun in winter, so you won't get much electricity. They work best in summer, but electric panels have poor yields and are a very long term investment. You will need to wait years before saving money. Natural gas, a well isolated home, and a good old sweater is the best way to cut bills.
- Q: Can solar panels be used in commercial buildings?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in commercial buildings. Many businesses and organizations are incorporating solar panels into their buildings to reduce energy costs, decrease their carbon footprint, and take advantage of potential tax incentives or subsidies. Commercial buildings have ample roof space to accommodate solar panels, and with advancements in technology, solar panels can be integrated seamlessly into the building's design.
- Q: I am wondering how to store energy from a solar panel
- On a battery obviously, otherwise there would be no point in installing panels to Generate Energy from Home.
- Q: How does the snow cover get removed from the panels?
- Just okorder /... As an aside the efficiency of the panels will also be maintained if the panels are cleaned of dust and debris. The maintenance of removing snow and dust is one argument for having the panels on a rack on the ground. Solar Thermal panels are intended to capture the sun's heat. Two types that make hot water are flat panels and vacuum tube collectors. The vacuum tube collectors work better in colder and cloudy areas but their efficiency prevents heat loss that might melt snow. Most of a light snow will fall between them but you are back to maintenance with a heavier snow. Flat panels are less efficient and will melt a light snow off of the panels for a heavier snow you will need the roof rake. The last type of solar panel are solar air panels. These are most often mounted on the side of a house rather than the roof as they are intended to provide hot air to the living spaces. They are essentially like little greenhouses. Unless the snow is building up against the side of the house these should be free from a snow problem.
- Q: I want to build solar panels for my house.Dose anyone try okorder is this really work?

- Q: I've built a set of lights, fan and a clock running on only solar power. The problem is, i have to present it tomorrow and when the light isn't particularly strong it won't work too well. It works flawlessly when its under my desk light on max brightness but the only the light works when i set it to low brightness. Currently, tomorrow in my city it won't be sunny so any advice for trying to make it work under low light?
- Solar panels are designed to be used to recharge a battery or series of batteries, not for direct power. That is the inherent weakness of solar systems. The only way to have it work in low light conditions if to have several cells wired in series and have a voltage regulator to limit the amount of voltage that can be supplied. Other than that, add a battery and a charging circuit that the cell would supply power to.
- Q: my pool guy cleaned the filter and replaced the DE, but now my roof solar panels have started leaking. how do i stop the leak? does backwashing help in any way?
- bypass the whole panel if you can ( one individual panel of several ) , or bypass that loop in that panel - car part rubber hose clamps
- Q: Basically I need a custom solar panel created. I won't go into detail but the dimensions need to be around 4''x2.5'' and be as thin as possible.
- There's no way that home built system that will generate enough power to run your home off the grid. That's all hogwash! No wind = no electricity generated. No sun = no electricity generated. I'm looking into a grid tie solar system. I'm still working out the math for my home. They are expensive ($20k - $50k) before tax credits, but they have been designed by engineers, not back yard, shade tree wanna-be engineers. They will put power into the grid during the day (making your meter run backwards) and you'll draw the power back at night (when there's no sun). This is perfectly legal. It must be installed by power company approved techs. That's how power companies are going to meet their green energy mandates for the future. You'll generate power for the power company and get paid wholesale prices for it (during the day). But you'll buy it back at retail (at night)
