- Q:My telephone doesn't work. No Dial tone. When I plug the phone into the box outside the phone works so that tells me it is the wiring going into or in the house. The phone repairman put in a new phone box outside because the old one wasn't accessible anymore (we accidentally built a porch over it) when he did that he spliced the wire going from the old box to the new box. The wires that he spliced hang down under the porch. There are 4 wires coming out of each wire, but only two are spliced together. Should the other two be spliced also? I'm thinking maybe they were but my dog has messed with them. The phone service went down all of the sudden and I don't really know anything else to check. Any ideas?
- each phone line uses a pair of wires (2 wires) these wires would normally be green/red or blue/white and solid blue for line 1 and if needed yellow/black or orange/white and solid orange for line 2... you did the first step in troubleshooting to know that the trouble resides inside your home... so when you call into your line does the phone ring busy (or go straight to voice mail) or does it just keep ringing.... if it rings busy (or straight to VM) then there is a short on the line... this is possibly a defective phone, a phone that is off the hook, or a bad jack or wire... if the phone just keeps ringing, then there is a broken wire somewhere...... since the old NID is no longer accessible, you may need to run a section of wire from the new NID to one of the existing jacks in your home to back feed the jacks... if you do this i recommend disconnecting the wire that is going from the new NID to the old NID, as if you reverse the polarity you may end up shorting out your line with the new wire...
- Q:What are the effects on an amp when you use power/ground wires that are too small? I bought a set of 8 guage wires off of OKorder, and it stated they can handle up to 1000W. I'm using a Kenwood KAC-9103D amp, 500x1 @ 4ohms, 900x1 @ 2ohms, and 900+ x1 @1ohm (1800 W max power). My subs are Kicker VR8, dual voice coil, 4ohms, wired in parallel. Was it a mistake to go with 8 guage wiring? Should have I gone with 4 guage?
- Should of definitely went with the 4 gauge. The effects are that the AMP will overheat, and will be underpowered.

- Q:Quick question with hopefully an easy answer. I had a dimmer switch go bad on a light in a dining room. I bought a new switch and put it in. It was working fine, so I thought, then I noticed that when the dining room light is off, the dimmer works on everything else on the circuit, for example outside lights, hall lights, etc. I can dim all of those things when this switch certainly didn't do that before. Also, if the dining room light is on, all of the other things on the circuit I mentioned before do not work at all. I've obviously incorrectly wired the switch somehow, any thoughts on what I did incorrectly and how to fix?
- I read this right after you posted it and for the life of me, can't figure this out. Maybe I'm tired. Maybe its the couple of drinks I have had tonight. Either way, it isn't making sense to me. However, I will tell you how to solve it. First of all, get a cheap muliti-tester. Check the voltage across a white and a black (the black could be a red or another color; any color except green, that's a ground) until you get a reading between 110-125V AC. Those are your power leads. Connect ALL the white leads together and cap them using a wire nut. Next, carefully grab the INSULATED part of the hot black lead and touch them in turn to the others. (There will be a small spark, but as long as you are only touching insulation, you will not get shocked. If you are nervous about this, use two pairs of insulated handle needle-nose pliers to grab the wires, but still, only grab the insulated part.) One should turn on the light in the DR and the other(s) should turn on the power elsewhere. Make a note of what is what. At that point, the wiring becomes simple. Attach the black hot lead to one of the lugs (or wires if that is what it has) of the dimmer switch AND to the black lead(s) that power other fixtures elsewhere. The black lead that you touched to the hot lead that turned on the DR light gets attached to the other side of the dimmer. That should solve your problem. Good luck. When you say for example a stranded tw wire 2mm2 does it mean 2mm square or 2 square mm meaning the area of the wire? does the measurement or size indicated in the insulation includes the insulation itself when measuring the wire? how about a stranded wire? basically the question is please explain the size of thw or tw wire stranded or solid wire indicated on the insulation. And how it is measured. does the insulation included in the measurement or just the copper wire inside that is measured.

- Q:I have a water valve that I need to connect but I don't know how to read this diagram. I'm unsure how to connect the wires to the cold and hot valve. I have four wires that need to be connected. A pair of white caps with one blue wire and one orange; and a pair of black caps with one blue wire and one yellow wire. Sorry if this sounds confusing but I have no idea how to explain it well. - In the diagram, there are two cold valves: valve 1 has a yellow wire to it; valve 2 has a blue and a yellow wires to it...............you may have to contact the washer manufacturer or the company that makes the valve for better installation instructions ( it's possible that all of the wires are not used in both valves )

- the terminals are colour coded, green for the green or ground wire, brass coloured for the live wires ( the red and black ones) and silver for the white wire.. make sure the power is off!!! it only takes 40 volts a 60 hz AC to KILL! look close for GRN for ground and green, LOAD or LINE for the black or red wires and further for NEUTRAL, ( N) or Neut. for the white wire...YOU CAN CHECK FOR POWER WITH PIGTAIL white to white and black to either black or white one at a time...post again so we know if your alive...

- Use chicken wire for the molding of the body. Make tube of the wire the width of the hip and bust area. Hook it together by intertwining the ends. All you have to do is mesh the wire, where you want it smaller and mold the bust to the size you want. After you mold it like how you want it, cover it with a single knit material. Then make a wooden stand to hold it at the height you want. It is very simple to do. I made a 7 foot hat that way to fit on a car for a parade.
