Solar panel working process
In addition to being the ultimate source of all life on earth, the sun is an infinitely renewable, completely pollution-free source of electricity. Instead of burning fossil fuels dug up from the ground in a big power plant – a very 19th century, industrial age approach, when you think about it – solar panels convert sunlight directly into electricity, with no harmful emissions.
The basic unit of a solar panel is a solar cell, which usually consists of one or two layers of silicon-based semiconductor wafers. When struck by the photons in sunlight, the solar cell generates an electrical charge due to the "photovoltaic effect" – which is a pretty good name, since it produces voltage from photons. The flow of these electrons moves in a steady electrical current from one side of the cell to the other.

- Q: solar panel capacity, how do it work
- You can find a lot on the Internet about how solar panels work. See the links below. I'm not sure how you define capacity. Solar panels are made up of many solar cells. Each cell is capable of generating a low DC voltage while delivering a small current, Several cells are connected in series, making strings to develop the required voltage. Then many of these strings are connected in parallel, so the panel can deliver a usable current. Then the panels are connected in series and/or parallel to deliver a usable voltage and current. My panels are rated at 24 volts. 20 panels are connected in series to develop 480 volts. This is sent to an inverter, which converts the 480 volts DC to 20 volts AC
- Q: I am researching several solar panels to install in my house. I would like to use a 40 watt panel to connect, through a solar battery controller, to a battery or two. I would then like to use the solar panel (40 watts) to charge the battery(ies) for emergency use. Once charged, and when needed, I would like to use the battery(ies), 2 volt deep cycle, to power several LED lamps. Since I am new to solar power I had several questions...Is a 40 watt panel strong/large enough to charge a 2 volt deep cycle battery or two?How long would it take to charge one of these batteries? What would be the expected cost to purchase necessary supplies? (With the solar panel, battery controller, and MC4 cabling I've found I have an expected cost of roughly $00.00 with batteries)Would this be difficult for someone with little experience in this field?
- Whats the size of battery ? The time needed for your 40Watts panel to fully charge a battery depends on the size of battery. Usually battery size is mentioned in Amp-Hours (AH).
- Q: If my school uses 88240kWh of electricity per month and I have 000 50W solar panels running for 6 hours a day, does it mean it will take 88240kWh / {{[(50W x 3600s)*000]/000}kWh x 6} number of hours to generate that much electricity (88240kWh)?
- running six hours a day doesn't mean much. You need to look at the solar insulation charts for your school's geographical location to come up with a better factor. The easiest number for you to use is sun hours. For example, Washington DC averages 4.23 hours. Do a Yahoo search for sun hours and you should find lots of charts. Solar panels rated at 50W give this output at full sun near noon at full brightness (no clouds). The sun hour factor makes it easy to find the equivalent number of full brightness hours. So, using Washington DC as an example you have: 000 panels * 50W * 4.23 sunhours/day = 634kWh a day on average. You state your school uses 88240kWh/month which is 6274kWh a day. This would mean you need ten times more solar panels since there is no way to get more daylight. Be careful to put in all the units in your formula and cancel them out to make sure you don't end up with a nonsense result. The title of the question would be answered as followed: 50W/000 * 4.23 sunhours/day = 0.63kWh/day or 9kWh per month or 228kWh a year. These are annual averages. If you wanted a specific month, you would need the sun hours for that month. Hope this helps.
- Q: What would these solar panels power? For instance, my energy bill shows 2035kWh for last month. How much would this remove from that if it outputted full power? Thanks!
- These panels are for small remote applications. Traffic signs, motion sensor lights, etc, where it would cost more to run an electrical line than it does to buy the panel.
- Q: Why are they placed there? How come they aren't placed on the floor or window. My fiance and I are interested in putting solar panels on our new home. I was really curious and google wasn't giving me the answer. My roof is pretty small in our new house and I don't think it would fit there. Why is it usually placed there and is there another place? You will be chosen as best answer if you answer all my questions. Thanks in advance, and I would appreciate if nobody is rude. Otherwise, I will have to report abuse.
- in case you had 2 mind cells to rub at the same time, think about nicely-known that at present's image voltaic panels are more suitable in each thanks to the antiquated, out of date, artifacts you're blathering and spewing about. If any image voltaic panels are happening the white domicile, they're going to be cutting-side. once again, technological awareness and expertise have moved on and left you choking of their dirt, scratching your azz and furrowing your neanderthal little foreheadin a futile attempt to understand what has occurred.............
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a historical building?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a historical building. However, the installation process should be carefully planned and designed to minimize any potential impact on the building's historical integrity. It is important to consult with experts and adhere to any local regulations or preservation guidelines to ensure a harmonious integration of solar panels without compromising the building's historical value.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on historic buildings?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on historic buildings. However, it is important to consider the architectural integrity and preservation of the building. The installation should be done in a way that minimizes visual impact and preserves the historic character. Special considerations and regulations might apply depending on the building's status and location.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a data center or server room?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a data center or server room. In fact, many organizations are increasingly adopting solar power as a sustainable energy solution for their facilities, including data centers and server rooms. Solar panels can be mounted on the roof or surrounding areas of the facility to generate clean and renewable electricity, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources and lowering carbon emissions. Integrated with appropriate infrastructure and storage systems, solar panels can effectively power these energy-intensive environments, making them more environmentally friendly and cost-effective in the long run.
- Q: If you buy everything you need for a grid-tied solar set up, can you install it yourself or is it required that a professional installs it?
- Solar panels have to be installed by a professional in order to get the government rebates. Also the systems must meet state and local electrical codes. Most modern inverters will not turn on unless there is live power from the MAINS, so a ultility company is NOT required for any installation anywhere. There are plenty of electrical contractors and speciality solar contractors out there to help you to make sure that the system is properly designed with the correct components, properly installed, and legally certified. Also many states require a permit that may have a large fee before any installation and may not allow the homeowner, especially for city homes, so it is best to check first. You might be able to get away with it if you live in the country, but consider the safety as well. See if you can work with your contractor to get the materials that you both agree upon as well. They can help guide you based upon their experience. Also shop around for pricing as the panels are now going below $ per watt !
- Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high levels of saltwater exposure?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with high levels of saltwater exposure, but they may require additional maintenance and protection measures to prevent corrosion and damage from salty air and water.
