Q:What are the different methods of levelling steel coils?
Different methods are employed to level steel coils, depending on their specific requirements and applications. Some commonly used methods include: 1. Roller Leveling: This method utilizes a series of rollers to apply pressure on the steel coil, effectively reducing residual stresses and eliminating any waviness or curvature. It is commonly used for achieving high flatness in thinner gauge coils. 2. Stretch Leveling: In this method, the steel coil is stretched beyond its yield point to eliminate shape defects. The coil is subjected to tension in a stretcher leveler machine, which elongates the material and removes inherent stresses. It is often used for achieving greater flatness in thicker gauge coils. 3. Temper Milling: This method involves passing the steel coil through a temper mill equipped with work rolls on top and bottom. The temper mill applies tension to the coil, flattening it and improving its shape and surface quality. It is typically used for higher strength steel grades. 4. Corrective Leveling: When the steel coil exhibits significant shape defects like wavy edges or center buckles, corrective leveling is employed. This method selectively removes material from specific areas of the coil to achieve a flat and uniform surface. Laser or plasma cutting machines are often used for this process. 5. Tension Leveling: Similar to stretch leveling, tension leveling applies tension to the coil without exceeding its yield point. Bridle rolls are used to stretch the material, eliminating internal stresses and leveling the coil. It is commonly used for achieving flatness in higher strength and thinner gauge coils. These methods can be used individually or in combination, depending on the specific requirements and desired end product. Each method has its advantages and limitations, and the choice of leveling method depends on factors such as coil thickness, material properties, and desired flatness.
Q:What are the common defects in steel coil surface finishes?
Common defects in steel coil surface finishes can include scratches, pits, rust, oil stains, and uneven coating. Scratches can occur during handling and transportation, and they can affect the overall appearance and performance of the steel coil. Pits are small depressions on the surface caused by a variety of factors such as impurities in the steel or improper processing. Rust can form when the steel coil is exposed to moisture or corrosive environments, and it can weaken the structural integrity of the material. Oil stains can occur if the coil is not properly cleaned before or after processing, leaving unsightly marks on the surface. Uneven coating can happen during the application of protective coatings or paints, resulting in areas with different levels of protection and aesthetics. It is important to address these defects to ensure the quality and durability of the steel coil for its intended applications.
Q:What are the different types of steel coil loading and unloading methods used during processing?
Some of the different types of steel coil loading and unloading methods used during processing include overhead cranes, forklifts, coil cars, and coil transfer systems.
Q:I want to know if it is possible to make regular steel stainless. From what I understand stainless consist of chromium about 10 percent I think.Any way I'm wondering if properties can be added in a process or can this only be possible during actual manufacturing of the steel. And I'm not talking about chrome like stainless steel that's not to shiny.
no an alloy essentiallly does not exibit its constituent properties if you want to add anymore the thing should be molten and hot and homogenous homogenous being the key word and no ss essentiallly mean that thing only
Q:What are the common uses of galvanized steel coils?
Galvanized steel coils are commonly used in a variety of applications such as construction, automotive manufacturing, HVAC systems, electrical appliances, and roofing. The galvanization process provides corrosion resistance, making these coils ideal for outdoor structures, metal frames, and components that are exposed to moisture or harsh weather conditions.
Q:What are the cost considerations when purchasing steel coils?
When purchasing steel coils, there are several cost considerations to take into account. Firstly, the price per ton of the steel coils is a significant factor. This can vary depending on factors such as the grade and quality of the steel, market demand, and supplier pricing. Secondly, transportation costs should be considered, as steel coils are heavy and may require special handling and shipping arrangements. Additionally, potential additional costs such as taxes, customs duties, insurance, and storage fees should be factored in. Lastly, the total cost of ownership, which includes factors like maintenance, repair, and energy consumption, should be considered to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the overall cost implications of purchasing steel coils.
Q:I bought a stainless steel mood ring two days ago, but would it rust? Thanks in advance!
Stainless Steel does not rust...that is why it is used in our kitchens and the top kitchens of the world...!! sorry...Stainless Steel does not Tarnish either!
Q:so my parents gave me stainless steel cookware for christmas and the first time i used it i cooked chicken. it stuck to the pan and where the oil splattered it cooked on and turned it dark black and brownish. and the bottom too. i don't cook with it because i don't want to burn it on anymore but i don't know how to clean it. how do i cook without burning anything, aside from a lower flame and how on earth do i get the stains on. i've tried almost everything too! thanks.
Dear pwrgrlmanda, I also use stainless steel. I have found the best way to clean any cookware that has food baked or cooked on it is by filling my sink with the hottest water possible, submerging the entire piece of cookware in the sink and then liberally sprinkling cascade powder over the top. Allow it to set overnight and usually in the morning everything will come off with a nylon scrubber. It really works! No more elbow grease. This also works for corning ware, glass baking pans, cookie sheets etc. Hope it works for you.
Q:what is the chemical process that makes steel harder when it is heated and cooled rapidly?what does the heating of it do to the atoms?what does the cooling of it do to the atoms?what makes tempered steel so strong compared to untempered steel?
You can't temper all steels. Generally the material must be a high-carbon or tool steel. Different alloys temper differently, and tempering is usually done to get a specific set of characteristics, so you must know what you are working with and use the right methods and temperature. If you do it wrong, the material may be hard but too brittle for the purpose or have other issues. It can be simple, such as heating to a dull red, carbonizing the surface (use an acetylene rich flame until it blackens the surface) and oil quenching. Do that to a piece of tool steel (like a screwdriver) and it will case (surface) harden it to the point you can't scratch it with a file. Tempering changes the way the molecular structure in the metal is linked and oriented.
Q:My neighbor who has an older model mustang installed a steel clutch in it and has blown 4 transmissions as a result. Can any mechanic explain why a steel clutch would kill transmissions? What other modifications would the car need in order to prevent this?
First of all it's not really a steel clutch..it is called a sintered iron clutch disk... a sintered iron clutch has a very aggressive amount of friction and is generally only used in racing application because of this...also it is ushually a non sprung disk. all of these factors = a very abrupt ingagement of the clutch which will shock the driveline very badly...say he's making 400hp and has really sticky tires..there is bound to be a weak link between the engine and the tires, in a factory driveline this would probably have been the clutch(it would slip) but since he has upgraded it he has now found the next weekest llink..in this case the transmission, he either needs to look into a beefier box or not launch the car so hard.
