- Q: I am researching several solar panels to install in my house. I would like to use a 40 watt panel to connect, through a solar battery controller, to a battery or two. I would then like to use the solar panel (40 watts) to charge the battery(ies) for emergency use. Once charged, and when needed, I would like to use the battery(ies), 2 volt deep cycle, to power several LED lamps. Since I am new to solar power I had several questions...Is a 40 watt panel strong/large enough to charge a 2 volt deep cycle battery or two?How long would it take to charge one of these batteries? What would be the expected cost to purchase necessary supplies? (With the solar panel, battery controller, and MC4 cabling I've found I have an expected cost of roughly $00.00 with batteries)Would this be difficult for someone with little experience in this field?
- Whats the size of battery ? The time needed for your 40Watts panel to fully charge a battery depends on the size of battery. Usually battery size is mentioned in Amp-Hours (AH).
- Q: I have a home in Manchester Tn and we have been slowly remodeling the home. It is about 200 sq ft of living space. Our normal electric bill is about 50 a month. We would like to add some solar panels to the home to help reduce the amount of the bill. How many panels do I need and what would be the cost? I am not trying to go completely of the grid but I would like to start somewhere and maybe over the years be able to add. What is your recommendation for a reasonable cost of under 2 to 3 k??
- Unless there has been some major breakthrough in solar panel efficiency - Forget it. I had looked at some utility interactive systems where the electricity generated by the solar panels went through a special inverter and into the electrical system of the house, any power you didn't use went backwards through the meter and into the grid. I figured that even if it was sunny every day, it would take about 20 years to break even on the system. That is, if I had invested $5,000 in a small system, to save $5,000 off the electric bill would take 20 years. If I had $5,000 to invest, this wouldnt be the place! It would take much more than 20 years of electrical savings to match even a modest investment. Then, don't forget what happens if 0 years from now the inverter or some of the panels fail and need replaced. Invest in fluorescent lights, maybe even LEDs. You will see a much quicker return on investment. Install more insulation, put in a heat-pump system. I appreciate you desire to save some energy, solar just isn't going to be worth doing, at least not yet.
- Q: Can solar panels be used for charging electric bikes?
- Yes, solar panels can be used to charge electric bikes. By converting sunlight into electricity, solar panels can provide a clean and renewable source of power for charging the batteries of electric bikes. This allows for sustainable and eco-friendly transportation options.
- Q: Would like to know if the DIY Solar panel systems can be as efficient as a commercial grade panel.
- What kind of panel are you talking about? Solar thermal, as in for hot water/room heating? Or photovoltaic? In the end its a matter of how good your DIY skills are and from what level of DIY you are talking about. eg, if you are buying the panels and installing them yourself, then there should be no difference. If you are fabricating the panels then you better be good at what you do. Creating photovoltaic cells is not a simple task. Soldering purchased cells together to create panels is tricky as they are easily damaged. Efficiency should not be a problem, but finish might be as well as robustness. It would be safer to buy complete panels and just mount them yourself and set up the batteries ans switch gear. But use good gear and follow instructions very carefully. With thermal panels you might not get the same levels of efficiency by using cheaper materials, std glass instead of non reflective for instance, but if space is not an issue, then you can get more heat out by going bigger and still save overall.
- Q: If you want to instal solar panels...how often do you have to replace them?
- solar cells never really stop producing, they just reduce their output over the years. There are many solar panels still running at 75% of their initial output and have been up for over 40 years. Most manufacturer will give you a 25 or 30 year waranty. That means that they guarantee that the solar panels will have no less than a 0% drop in the amount of electricity produced by each panel in 30 years.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on disaster relief shelters?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on disaster relief shelters. Solar panels are a versatile and sustainable solution that can provide electricity for lighting, charging electronic devices, and powering essential equipment in disaster-affected areas. They are portable, easy to install, and can help ensure a reliable source of energy in remote or inaccessible locations.
- Q: can solar panels have glass between the panels and the sun?
- PV panels do not have to be in direct sunlight. If they are behind glass they need to be well ventilated to remove excess heat. If PV cells connected in series are not uniformly illuminated the series will produce an amount of power that is based on the light on the least illuminated cell. Thus moving a panel back from a window will mean that for large parts of the day it will produce almost no power as parts of the panel are shaded. This applies only when the cells are connected in series. In parallel they suffer no special degradation of production, but just the sum of illuminated cells. This makes a difference when you decide to use a higher voltage panel... high voltage panels are more susceptible to partial shading. But connecting low voltage panels in series gives that same degradation. Stay away from placing a panel back away from the window, or close to the edges of the window, under roof overhangs, trees and surrounding building shade, where possible.
- Q: so i told my dad to buy solar panels and he wants to see how much money u can save we pay $00 and i dont want quot; You don't need solar panelshow much would my fmaily save?
- I asked my dad to buy solar panels few years ago and after discovering the prices, i got WHY DO YOU NEED SOLAR PANELS Now i earn myself and hence bought these panels. Hope You don't get that. So do a thing. Go to nearby government office and ask for details for rebate on buying solar equipment and go accordingly. Do some extra work and earn money. In this way you will be light on your dad's pocket and even help in saving the planet.
- Q: Currently being sold today! I know SunPower corp. commercial panels are about 20%.
- Thats pretty much it for commercially available panels. The only ones more efficient are the one's they put on the Mars landers. They are triple layer panels that catch different spectrum's of light, much more efficient. Millions of dollars more.
- Q: Does anyone own any and would you recommend them? right now i only own solar stake lights and i use them during the summer in my yard. But during the winter i take them out because they don't charge well. I live in toronto canada where it snows a lot during the winter, would it even be worth it to buy solar panels? Would they get covered with snow if the were mounted on my roof and get ruined? I plan on buying some when i purchase my own home.Any info would be appreciated:)
- You may have to put a snow roof over the wind generator to keep it working. A solar hot water system might be hard investment where you are but it could work if it's designed right. Check out the solar companies in your area for ideas.
