- Q: The bottom row of tiles on my roof are loose.Depending on the weather(wind) I have to move the tiles back every 3 weeks as they are slipping down. How do I fix this without ripping up all the tiles just to nail down this one row?I do not have a gutter.
- If they are the newer cement tiles, I would try a small cement drill, about the size of a 16 penny nail. Try to gently drill a hole in the tile where you want to nail it to the roof. Or use screws that don't rust. Don't nail or screw down to the tile, that will break it. You just want the nail to hold the tile in position. If they are the older mission tiles, made of clay, the same might work. But they are very brittle and may need a wood support shaped the same as the tile to put under before drilling.................JJJ

- Q: Complete DIY newbie here with an outdated bathroom that I want to make a master. The floor is covered in hideous 1x1 tiles. I will replace this tile with some 12x12 or 8x8. Any suggestions on how to get this stuff off?
- How To Remove Mosaic Tiles
- Q: I live in an apartment and ive never had floor tiles like these. There is concrete underneath but I think these are ceramic tiles on top.I have no clue what to use to bring back the shine.Any suggestions would be helpful
- If the tiles have a shiny finish, the polish designed to clean glass topped stoves will safely remove built up grime. As far as polishing afterwards, I don't know what brand you have. In light of this I would suggest you take a good look at the detaisl and pattern and visit a store that sells tiles. Find your best match and read the package for all cleaning/polishing instructions. If the help seem competent, you could ask them as well.
- Q: I‘m installing 13x13 floor tile on a slab. Any tips on how to do it right
- If your not overly familiar with doing tile a diagonal isn t the easiest to start on. Lay out and proper tools are a big help in your preplanning. Right size trowel and large enough wet saw and had cutter is a must. Get the longest straight site line and split the room in 1/2 with a chalk line. Lay tile back to the wall and figure the size of pc(pcs) you need. You can cut a few of these pcs as a starting point. Knowing you split the room you should be equal when you get to the other side. A perfect straight edge will help keep your lines straight. Use this on all sides as you build out from that wall and lay as though your doing a straight lay just that your on a 45 degree. Or if you are doing an open ended area , you can cut several tiles in 1/2 and work back. A bit trickier but overall look is better. Don t cut tiles directly in 1/2, you must cut just off center if this is a starting point. Very hard to do and takes experience. Any specific questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: Is it possible to remove just the top row of the ceramic tile on my bathroom walls without damaging the remaining tile? I‘d like to replace the top row with glass tiles for a more updated look.
- in case you're only worried approximately eliminating the tiles, and don't care in the event that they are broken in the process the eliminating, then chisel and hammer could artwork. besides the undeniable fact that! in case you're attempting to maintain those previous tiles in tact, that's a plenty tougher technique. Secondly, you stated the partitions have been plaster (and lathe in the back of that?) as quickly as those partitions are compromised, that's a great form of artwork to re-plaster. different concepts: a million. call a enterprise who resurfaces previous tiles with yet another colored ceramic coating, 2) shrink out those sections of partitions and set up different ingredients, like granite, abbatibi (sp?) , fiberglass sections, or 3) pull down the previous partitions, post new greenboard and re-tile with the tiles of your selection. in case you % an spectacular consequence, i could flow with the 0.33 selection, besides the undeniable fact that that's a great form of artwork. some weeks in case you're working area time and definitely know what you're doing. If it is not probably important to have it final for say, better than 7 years, i could merely have a enterprise re-coat the tile. it will take them a million-4 days and could fee equivalent to or under the different concepts. sturdy success! It' an ambitious undertaking.
- Q: To remoe the old wall tiles between kitchen cabinet takes a lot of time or may damage the sheetrock behind it, can I install granite or new tiles on top of it. Appreciate for any input
- The cost to demo the old tile is insignificant in the face of doing the job twice. Do it right. Get rid of the old tile and take the old drywall off as well. It easier and less costly to do it right the 1st time.
- Q: Please help! and give as much information you can about the invention of tiles!
- Tiles have been used by man as a paving or cladding material for thousands of years. There are examples of glazed tiles, such as the Ishtar Gate at Babylon, which survive from the 6th century B.C. But who invented tiles, is a little difficult to pin down. Archaeologists have found bits of tiles along the River Nile dating back between 12,000 and 18,000 years. As early as 5,000 B.C. the Egyptians were making brightly coloured tiles to decorate the interior of their pyramids. Tiles used by Arab and Moorish civilisations can still be seen today.
- Q: Not sure it it‘s mold/mildew ot the sealer stripping off. I‘ve used Tilex but it didn‘t work. Even scrubbed it with a stiff brush. Anyone know what this film is and how to get it off?
- Are these tiles applied directly to a concrete floor that sits on the ground? If so, it sounds like efflorescence, where salt moves from the ground into the floor and then through the tile appearing as a white film on the surface of the tile (it happens through basement walls and if bricks are placed on the ground). Scrubbing may not be enough. You may have to check at your local hardware store for a sealer for your tiles or a cleaner strong enough to prevent the film from forming again.
- Q: can you paint over bathroom tiles? if so what kind do i need?
- Yes, there is tile/ceramic paint- several brands- all stocked by home improvement stores. The key element is the prepping. The old tiles and grouting need to be clean -and then cleaned again with the manufacturers suggested cleaner. You can decorate tiles, or change the color of the entire wall. Once the paint is dry, it is waterproof . It takes a bit of time, but with care, you should be able to do almost all the cleaning prep the day before and then just do the final cleaning and paint on the project day. Worst case, do one wall at time. It does not hurt to practice the entire process on one tile- preferably the tile hardest to see when you are on the outside looking in.
