Q:Ceramic tile over concrete skab?
Any rocking means the tile is hitting either a high spot or there is a low spot. Low spots can be dealt with the thin set. As long as its less than a 1/4. High spots usually needs to be ground down flat. So to answer your question , for ease of installation and the prevention of cracked tiles at a later date, floors need to be as flat as possible. If you have minor rocking with no thin set down, in some cases a larger sized trowel will do the trick. Each case is different and has to be dealt with differently. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:What is the white powder on the back of the floor tiles?
It is a brick bottom glaze, tiles in the kiln before the application of the brick at the end of glaze The main component: is alumina Purpose: to avoid the tiles in the high temperature state sticky furnace roller rod, resulting in tile deformation and the closure of the kiln and cause the roller break. Use: paving the time to brush with water on the line
Q:Travertine tile directly to sheetrock in dry area?
installing directly to sheetrock will not cause the tiles to break or the installation to fail. 75% of new homes are tile to sheetrock on fireplaces. mastic is never a good idea. Because this is not an area that will get wet, you might get by, but honestly... Why spend $35 for a pail of mastic when $20 will give you a 50# bag of modified thinset? So yes, sheetrock will support the weight of the tiles on a fireplace surround. No prep is needed. Cut tiles, thinset, and set. Also a tip... Some people like to caulk around the inside of the surround, as the grout tends to crack there with the expansion/contraction of the metal from using the fireplace. Don't do it. It'll look good for a little while, but it will stink every time you use the fireplace. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck!
Q:why has my tile grout started to break up?
Even if you mixed it right there s a couple things. Dirt in the joints and it didn t adhere, Loose tiles ,( knock on them w/ your knuckles to hear if they sound hollow, to much water w/ washing grout down. This are a few. Any questions you can e mail me thru my avatar and check my qualifications PS You didn t say exactly wher, both I had a thought I forgot ..If its on the inside of the tile on the legs and header part , this is common and caused by the expansion and contraction of the fire chamber. It thats it thers a couple ways to go about fixing it. Caulking w/ a matching colored sanded grout or digging it out and putting in a special meatl thats normally called a Schulter Metal. It s L shaped and part of its slid behind the tile andglued in and some covers the tile edge. Comes in many colors and readily available at tile places. GL
Q:grout vs caulking in shower tile?
Caulking is generally used for the finishing touches for the edges of the tile. And the purpose for the caulking is so when the floor is mopped or the counters are wiped that the excess water wont leak into the edges of where the tile ends and the baseboards or wall begins. Grout on the other hand is designed to go in between the tiles. So a proper job is the grout in between the tiles and the caulking to polish it off making the edges seamless with a smooth transition from the wall or baseboard leading into the tile. Hope this helps some.
Q:How many pieces of a tiles are there in general?
Look at the specifications! General 600 * 600 4 pieces 800 * 800 3 pieces, some thick brick 2 pieces
Q:How is the acceptance of tiles after construction?
Acceptance of several main parts: first within two meters of the error shall not be greater than 2mm, the joints should be neat, uniform size, no hollowing, not loose, with two meters long ruler or by the foot of acceptance. Second, you can use a small hammer in the ground or the walls of all the light tapping, no empty drums. Finally, pay attention to the drainage requirements of the floor tile slope should meet the drainage requirements, and ground leakage should be tightly integrated.
Q:****how to line up staggered FLOOR tiles. HELP?
The best thing to do is snap a chalk line down the center of the room, lengthwise. Then snap another chalk line running down the center of the room, widthwise. Where the two lines intersect will be the room center and your starting point. Keep in mind that rooms are seldom square. Don't be surprised if the room narrows or widens as you go. A basic rule of thumb when laying tile is to always do a dry fit first to see how the tiles will lay. This way, if you have to make any adjustments, it will be much easier than when they're in thinset. Don't forget to allow for the spacers for the grout line. For a 20x20 tile, I would go with a 1/8 grout line. You will need to use sanded grout. You want whole tiles in the center. The last rows against the wall can be cut to fit. Once the baseboard is installed, it will look like the tile runs under the wall. For door trim, use a Japanese saw to cut the trim just above the tile, using a tile as a height gauge. That way, the tile can slip under the door trim. The Japanese saw is a special, offset saw that allows you to make precise cuts at floor level. Buy, borrow, or rent a wet saw for cutting tile. It will save you a lot of time and make the job look professional. Make your cuts as you do the dry fit, so each tile fits perfectly. Once you get the tiles cut, you can identify them by the row and position they go in, or by some other method that allows you to fit the right tiles in the right place easily and accurately. Use modified thinset for setting the tiles. Don't cover the whole floor at once! Work about 10 square feet at a time. Keep in mind that the mixed thinset has a limited working time before it starts setting. It's better to mix a small batch each time. Use a 1/4 square notch trowel for spreading the thinset. Place the spacers between tiles to set them even distances apart for the grout lines. Above all, plan your moves and take your time. If you do it right, you'll only have to do it once.
Q:How many square meters of tiles (wall) (Tiles) multiple?
Specifications are not the same size is not the same weight Asked I'm talking about a square meter
